Public Health Approaches to Reducing US Infant Mortality
This session of Grand Rounds explored public health approaches to reducing US infant mortality. This session also coincided with the 20th anniversary of Child Health Month inaugurated by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Both nationally and globally, infant mortality is a key measure of population health. The infant mortality rate, the rate at which babies less than one year of age die, has continued to steadily decline in the US over the past several decades; most recent national data from 2010 shows 6.15 deaths per 1000 live births. Despite overall progress, racial disparities in infant mortality persist and preventable infant deaths continue to occur. Public health agencies including CDC/ATSDR, health care providers, and communities of all ethnic groups must partner to further reduce the infant mortality rate in the United States. This joint approach should address the social, behavioral, and health risk factors that affect birth outcomes. This powerful session of Grand Rounds highlighted accomplishments and explored public health, clinical, and policy strategies to improve birth outcomes, with special consideration of high risk individuals, families, and communities. PHILIPPINES HIGHEST MATERNAL DEATHS AND INFANT MORTALITY RATES - PASS THE RH BILL !
Citing high maternal deaths, Sen. Pia reiterates call to pass RH Bill Senator Pia S. Cayetano today reiterated her call for the immediate passage of the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill as she cited a new government survey indicating that maternal deaths in the country have risen in the past decade. "The country's high Maternal Mortality rate (MMR) as shown in the findings of the 2011 Family Health Survey once more underscores the urgency to pass the RH Bill," said Cayetano, principal sponsor of Senate Bill 2865, the Senate's version of the RH Bill. "During the past decade that the bill has been stalled in Congress, our MMR has not declined. In fact it has increased to 221 deaths per 100000 livebirths from 162 deaths from the period 2000-2005,"she added. The lady senator also noted that the latest figures are way off the country's target to reduce MMR to 52 by the year 2015 under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). "Although we use statistics to track our progress, let's remember that every mother who died has a face, a name and a child. Every mother matters. Every life counts," stressed the senator, who chairs the Senate Committees on Health and Demography , and on Youth, Women and Family Relations. Cayetano has just returned to the country on Tuesday from Washington DC where she attended the Child Survival Call to Action conference, along with about 700 leaders from different countries. The conference stressed how intrinsically related maternal health is to child ...

FUKUSHIMA KILLING BABIES IN PHILADELPHIA? - INFANT DEATHS UP 48% SINCE REACTOR 3 EXPLOSION
Is Iodine-131 Killing Babies In Philly? Fox has removed this video See here: www.youtube.com A researcher says the death rate among babies is up 48 percent since Iodine-131 was found in Philadelphia's drinking water Joseph Mangano is is the executive director of the Radiation And Public Health Project in New York, which is made of up scientists and health professionals. there has been a recent spike, in infant deaths in Philadelphia, and Mangano says radioactive levels, in our water could be to blame. After the explosion at the Fukushima power plant in Japan, radiation circled the globe, all the way to Pennsylvania. About a month, after the disaster, radiation levels spiked, in our water, at three Philadelphia facilities. Mangano said radiation combined with higher levels of iodine the EPAQ found in Philadelphia's water two months ago may be killing young babies here. We're reporting his research not to alarm or cause panic, but to inform. It's enough time to suggest, not conclude yet. The real benefit is it is a red flag for more studies to be done. Mangano says we've gone from an average of 5 deaths per week to 7and a half deaths per week. And what's even more thought provoking is Mangano believes radiation traveling from Japan is particularly pregnant women without them knowing it. Mangano looked at infant death data from the Centers For Disease Control And Prevention. It shows an average of five infant deaths a week in the five weeks leading up to the fallout in Japan ...

This Scene expresses- FEAR- noun: an emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger (usually accompanied by a desire to flee or fight). noun: a feeling of anxiety and agitation caused by the presence or nearness of danger, evil, pain, etc.; timidity; dread; terror; fright; apprehension. Terrify not your soul with vain imaginary fears. By realizing that you are the one feeding the fire, you can start to take control of your fears. Panic is a vicious cycle that can be broken. When you start to have irrational fears you need to take action quick. Eleanor Roosevelt once said: "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing, which you think you cannot do." We must stop running away from things that frighten us, face our fears head on, and do the thing we fear the most. Most of the time we'll find out that the "thing" was not that scary after all. Our imaginations had behaved like a super fertilizer and grown a grotesque monstrosity in our minds. Remember, our imaginations are incredibly powerful. They can work against us, creating horrible images that leave us paralyzed with fear and they can also work for us, building a world where everything we do is an adventure, a miracle. And the most amazing thing is that we hold the power to control our minds - we allow fear to dominate our lives or we choose to dominate fear. Those are our only two choices.

Infant Mortality - Advancements in Life
Peter Brimelow, writing in a recent issue of Forbes Magazine, described the terrible curse of maternal and infant mortality during the 18th and 19th centuries. Death in that era came calling on nearly every door, whether humble or proud. In the 1700s, one baby in five died in infancy, and 33 mothers out of every 1000 were lost in childbirth.

Have our systems failed baby Damini?
Born to a weak and anaemic mother who died five days after her birth, baby Damini had a low birthweight baby at just two kilos. Deprived of her mother's care, her weight has dipped to 1.4 kilos, but it is not just baby Damini alone, studies have shown that there is a direct link between maternal mortality and infant mortality, and even today Rajasthan scores badly on both fronts. Small Baby Guidelines Proven to be Life-Changing for Premature Infants
For the last decade, prematurity has been the leading cause of infant mortality in the US. As a result of prematurity, many infants enter this world too early with a small chance of survival. So, physicians at Nationwide Children's Hospital developed a set of Small Baby Guidelines tailored to meet the needs of these premature infants, some born up to four months early. Now, a new study shows that these guidelines are not only improving survival rates for extremely premature infants, but also improving their quality of life. Dr. Ed Shepherd, chief of Neonatology, explains how these guidelines are helping these fragile infants go on to live normal lives. For more information on these Small Baby Guidelines, visit bit.ly For more information on Dr. Ed Shepherd, visit bit.ly For more information on the Section of Neonatology at Nationwide Children's Hospital, visit bit.ly

Fracking house explosions, suicides, miscarriages cover up
by human rights reporter, Deborah Dupre' Copyright Deborah Dupre' 2013 Fracking-related house explosions, suicides and miscarriages and infant mortality in Faulkner County have been hidden, according to local human and Earth rights defenders who met with Deborah Dupré in Greenbrier in late Jan. 2013, part of a "Vampire of Macondo" national book tour. During a "Vampire of Macondo" book signing in Faulkner Country, Concerned Citizens of Faulkner County members described deaths, suicides, miscarriages, abnormal bleeding, passing out, respiratory and neurological diseases, rashes and boils, along with house explosions and over 1400 earthquakes. Fayetteville Shale play has been touted as an economic boom for Arkansas communities such as Faulkner. Environmental and human costs of health, safety and security rights abuses, however, overbalance these dubious financial gains. Your comments below are greatly appreciated.
