Efik Chief founded the secret Abakua society in Havana in the 1830s
The efik woman is a great descendants of the brave abakua men of old in precolonial society..the hairdo is royal and majestic..Abakua is an Afro-Cuban men's initiatory fraternity, or secret society, which originated from fraternal associations in the Cross River region of southeastern Nigeria and southwestern Cameroon. Known generally as Ekpe, Ngbe, or Ugbe among the multi-lingual groups in the region, these closed groups all used the leopard as a symbol of masculine prowess in war and political authority in their various communities. The term Ñáñigo has also been used for the organization's members. The Efiks inhabit the coastal area of South Eastern Nigeria and are very well known nationally and internationally partly because of the prominence of Calabar in Nigerian history and also due to their rich cultural heritage. Among the broad culture of the Efiks are "Ekombi", the Efik classical music, "Ukwa", the only fencing match in sub-Saharan Africa, "Mbuk", a collection of Efik folklore, and "Ekpe". Abang dance is performed for entertainment and at festive occasions. The dance can be simple as well as elaborate with many interpretations behind it. The most famous cuisine "Edikangikong" is renowned as next to none in Nigeria. According to the 2006 Nigerian census, the Efik make up 2% of the nation's population. The language is predominantly spoken in the Calabar municipality, Calabar south, Odukpani, Akpabuyo and Bakassi local government areas. It is the second predominant ...

Nigerian Cultural Heritage - Howto make Traditional Attire
The culture of Nigeria is shaped by Nigeria's multiple ethnic groups. The country has over 50 languages and over 250 dialects and ethnic groups. The three largest ethnic groups are the Hausa-Fulani who are predominant in the north, the Igbo who are predominant in the south-east, and the Yoruba who are predominant in the southwest. The Edo people are predominant in the region between Yorubaland and Igboland. Much of the Edo tend to be Christian while the remaining 25 percent worship deities called Ogu. This group is followed by the Ibibio/Annang/Efik people of the coastal southeastern Nigeria and the Ijaw of the Niger Delta. The rest of Nigeria's ethnic groups (sometimes called 'minorities') are found all over the country but especially in the middle belt and north. The Hausa tend to be Muslim and the Igbo are predominantly Christian. The Efik, Ibibio, Annang people are mainly Christian. The Yoruba have a balance of members that are adherent to both Islam and Christianity. Indigenous religious practices remain important in all of Nigeria's ethnic groups, these beliefs are often blended with Christian beliefs.

NIGERIAN CULTURAL HERITAGE
Nigeria is a country blessed with a rich cultural Heritage and diverse ethnic firmament. Nigeria is home to a mixture of ethnic groups with Arabic and Western European influences. Our dear Nation Nigeria is a combination of traditional culture and international urban sophistication. Our culture, tradition and heritage have been shaped by all of our multi-ethnic groups. There are over 250 different tribes and cultures in Nigeria, with the three (3) largest and most predominant being the Hausa-Fulani in the North, the Yoruba in the South West and the Ibo in the South East. Other very popular tribes include the Benis who have produced some of the World's best traditional artwork. We also have the Ibibio/Efik people of the coastal South Eastern part of Nigeria. Our country is famous for English literature having produced the likes of Chinua Achebe, Chimamanda Adichie and Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka. For over 60 years, football (soccer) has been an extremely popular throughout the Country. The National football team known as the Super Eagles has for many years been seen as a major unifying factor in Nigeria. Our food is a rich assortment of traditional African carbohydrates and green freshly picked vegetables. Nigeria has been described by several commentators as the hub of Africa's music renaissance. Highlife is a popular genre of music in West Africa and this resurgence was led by Nigerian musicians like the late Fela Kuti. Nigerians place a very important premium ...
