Egyptian Celebs React Violently When Told They Are On Israeli TV
A video featuring scenes from an Egyptian candid camera series is garnering attention on the Internet. The show, created by Memri TV, includes clips of Egyptian celebrities being told they are appearing on an Israeli channel. The video starts with an interview between a female host and actor Ayman Kandeel "Tuhami." Kandeel is friendly at first but grows angry as a caller tells him he's being featured on an Israeli program. The actor gets into an argument with a producer, ultimately assaulting the original woman he was speaking with. In the second portion of the segment, Egyptian actress Mayar Al-Beblawi makes an appearance. "They keep whining about the Holocaust, or whatever it's called," she begins, before being told she is on an Israeli channel and removing her microphone in anger. In the final part, actor Mahmoud Abd Al-Ghaffar is fed the same lie, which incites shouting. Al-Ghaffar yells "You are a Jew" at a producer and hits him about the head. When told it was all a prank, Al-Ghaffar says, "I hate the Jews to death." In finishing the segment, the female host chalks the extreme reactions up to "patriotism."

Egypt Burning
This film tells the story of five days in January 2011 when the people of Egypt broke through a barrier of fear they had known for a generation and rose in revolt against their president. Anger had long been brewing in Egypt - strikes, unemployment and sectarian tension were on the rise. Small networks of activists had been agitating against Hosni Mubarak's autocratic rule for years. But it was only when another Arab country, Tunisia, rose up against its tyrant that the Egyptian activists attracted mass support. People took to the streets across Egypt demanding political freedoms, an end to state corruption and a better quality of life for the impoverished population. Egypt Burning captures those critical moments as history unfolded through interviews with Al Jazeera correspondents on the ground.

Egypt's Morsi declares 'state of emergency'
Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has declared a 30-day state of emergency and a night-time curfew in three cities along the Suez Canal that have seen deadly clashes in recent days. In a televised address late on Sunday, Morsi said the emergency measures in Port Said, Ismailia and Suez would take effect on Monday from 9pm local time (1900 GMT) to 6am (0400 GMT), warning to take more action to stem the latest eruption of violence across much of the country. Meanwhile, in Port Said, at least seven people were killed and 630 others injured on Sunday during the funerals of people killed at the weekend in clashes triggered by death sentences on supporters of a local football team. Al Jazeera's Rawya Rageh reports from Port Said.

This is a short piece I've done with some shots of people and places I met in Egypt while I was shooting a tourism programme for a flight company in December 2009.
I shot it all using a Canon 5d Mark II and a Glidetrack HD. Edited in FCP and graded with After Effects.
The main theme is "Ah Men El-Fora2" by Amr Diab, covered by a super talented egyptian musician called MARWAN ANWER. The intro is extracted from a song called "Beirut Goes to Cuba".

Egyptian protesters defy emergency law
Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of Egyptian cities of Port Said, Ismailiyah and Suez in defiance of President Mohamed Morsi's declaration of a curfew and a state of emergency after days of deadly unrest. The crowds shouted "Down down with Mohamed Morsi, down down with the state of emergency," in Ismailiyah and similar slogans were heard in the other cities along the Suez Canal. Five days of unrest has led to 50 deaths, and police once again clashed with protesters in Suez and downtown Cairo on Monday. At least two people were killed in Monday's clashes in Port Said. In Suez, meanwhile, hundreds of prisoners at a city jail made a failed attempt to escape during chaotic protests. Al Jazeera's Rawya Rageh reports from Port Said.

Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi calls Jews 'descendants of apes and pigs
Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi calls Jews 'descendants of apes and pigs' The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) has translated some videos of Morsi from 2010. The Egyptian president is called "moderate" by many Western journalists and politicians. They are naive or lying (or maybe both). By the way: Jews are called "apes and pigs" three times in the Quran (2:65, 5:60 & 7:166). So, Morsi is acting like a devout Muslim.
