Local government reform 'success' in Helmand.
When foreign combat troops pull out of Afghanistan in 2014, Afghan troops will try to fill the gap. In the troubled province of Helmand in the south-west, the security effort has been backed up by local government reform, one of the more significant successes of western intervention. It has been so successful that the British officials who introduced it have been asked to take it to other provinces. David Loyn reports.

China Focus - What Shenyang's Ghost Town Means for China's Economy
China Focus has moved to a new channel, Be sure to subscribe to www.youtube.com Stores closed. Shops shuttered. Images from Shenyang, China last week show parts of the city turned into a ghost town. The reason? Widespread panic among business owners after reports that local authorities were running a campaign to crack down on "counterfeiting," but that authorities were really using the crackdown to impose huge fines on businesses, due to a local government budget shortfall ahead of the 2013 National Games, which will be held in Shenyang. But is that the real reason for the authorities actions? Is Shenyang an isolated incident? And what does this mean for China's broader economy? Pirates of the Suburbs - Destroying Communities
Join directdemocracy.grou.ps for more information about how to get involved and start taking back your community. Occupy your local council - Who are Local Councils or "Local Government"? Can they charge rates, can they issue penalties (and in the case of occupiers, do they have ANY right at all to ask you to move on?) In fact, do Local Councils or "Local Government" have any rights at all in your area? Absolutely not! None whatsoever. It's about time these corporations masquerading as government are exposed for the criminals that they are. Take back your community and stop these pirates from pillaging our Country suburb by suburb. It's up to all Australians to protect their country, council by council! - This video shows Melton residents doing just that! http This video is also related to the article mentioned earlier proving the local media's lies & contempt for their own communities. (melton-leader.whereilive.com.au ) Stay tuned for the information we have about the opportunity we gave to Mr. Tori to work with the community to resolve this very important issue. Mr. Tori maintained his position, because it suited him despite the information we gave him before the release of this video. We made it abundantly clear at the conclusion of our one-on-one meeting, that if he would not in the very least investigate our information or question his current position on the matter, then we consider him to be willfully criminal in his actions. He ignored us. These people can no ...

China News - November 5, 2012: Wen Jiabao Requests Wealth Probe
In today's NTD China News, the Chinese regime has officially expelled Bo Xilai from the Communist Party, following a four day closed meeting that ended on Sunday. China's former railway minister, Liu Zhijun, was also expelled during the 7th Plenary Session of the CCP's Central Committee. Liu was sacked last year following accusations of corruption. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has reportedly asked Chinese authorities to investigate the finances of his family. It's in response to a report by the New York Times that alleged Wen's family controlled $2.7 billion in assets. Wen's family have denied the claims. Tibet's spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, has urged incoming Chinese leaders to undertake political reform, saying the regime's current heavy handed approach in Tibet has not worked. A heavy snowstorm that struck northern China over the weekend has left three Japanese tourists dead. Japanese carmaker Toyota has announced an optimistic profit forecast for this year, despite the setbacks in China following anti-Japanese riots. More villagers in China's Hebei province are extending support for a persecution victim, that's despite the threat of crackdown by local authorities. As the Chinese regime negotiates its power transfer, state-controlled media are facing competition from the country's growing online community, who are becoming increasingly skeptical of Party propaganda. Youths Protest As Gunmen Kill One in Jos
Residents of Kuru in Jos South local government area of Plateau state, North Central Nigeria went to the streets in protest of an attack on their community, which resulted in the death of one person and the injury of another by unknown gunmen. The angry youths said they were out to express their anger over the killing a member of their community in an attack on Sunday night that left another person injured. The protesters blocked the highway that linked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru before members of the Special Task Force (STF) intervened to prevent further breakdown of law and order within the area. Residents say the incessant attacks in villages around Barkin Ladi, Riyom and lately Jos South local government areas need to be addressed by the STF as the attackers are becoming frequent with the same professional accuracy and commando type of killings and escaping while no one is apprehended. They suggested that efforts should be made to curtail further occurrence in order to restore public confidence in security operatives. In the video below, the father of the deceased, Clement Dagwat and the Media Coordinator of the STF narrate how the attackers invade the community.

Bournemouth sea front walk, during Bournemouth Air Show, 2nd September 2012 ( 4 )
Bournemouth .With seven miles of golden sands and sparkling sea, the vibrant cosmopolitan town of Bournemouth has it all - a vast variety of shops, restaurants and holiday accommodation, buzzing nightlife and endless countryside with beautiful award winning gardens and water sports galore. Bournemouth is a large coastal resort town in the ceremonial county of Dorset, England. According to the mid-year estimates for 2010 from the Office for National Statistics the town has a population of 168100, making it the largest settlement in Dorset. It is also the largest settlement between Southampton and Plymouth. With Poole and Christchurch, Bournemouth forms the South East Dorset conurbation, which has a total population of about 400000. Founded in 1810 by Lewis Tregonwell, Bournemouth's growth accelerated with the arrival of the railway, becoming a recognised town in 1870. Historically part of Hampshire, it joined Dorset with the reorganisation of local government in 1974. Since 1997 the town has been administered by a unitary authority, meaning that it has autonomy from Dorset County Council. The local authority is Bournemouth Borough Council. Bournemouth's location on the south coast of England has made it a popular destination for tourists. The town is a regional centre of business, home of the Bournemouth International Centre and financial companies that include Liverpool Victoria and PruHealth. Although Bournemouth is on the coast, the centre of the town lies inland - the ...

Tackling Pakistan's rivers of rubbish
Plastic bags are often the cheapest way for shoppers to get their goods home. But they also litter the streets and clog rivers in the Pakistani city of Lahore. The pollution there is so bad that the local government is now considering a bag ban. Al Jazeera's Imran Khan reports from Lahore.

China Focus - Take Aways From the Qidong Protests
China Focus has moved to a new channel, Be sure to subscribe to www.youtube.com Qidong is the latest example of the people winning over the rulers, at least in terms of thwarting environmentally harmful projects. For the second time in the past month, massive demonstrations have forced Chinese authorities to scrap an industrial plan. Qidong protestors went straight for those in power - getting a hold of the Deputy Mayor and the city's Communist Party Secretary. Demonstrators stormed the local government building, and authorities had to call in police from out of town - because local police held back in carrying out orders to stop protestors. In this China Focus, we look at whether Qidong is now part of an escalating trend. Is the public more prepared to protest to make demands? Will these local demonstrations spread on a larger scale and what does this mean for the Chinese regime's attempt to continue its hold on power. China Focus - Why China Doesn't Fix the Biggest Threat to Stability: Forced Evictions
China Focus has moved to a new channel, Be sure to subscribe to www.youtube.com It's such a problem that China's Premier Wen Jiabao has called it one of the biggest threats to China's political stability: Forced Evictions. That is, when local government or Party officials kick people out of their homes without consent. Most of the time, it's because the officials want to sell that land to private developers for a massive profit...in return for massive kickbacks. Forced evictions are illegal according to international law, such as the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights that China signed in 2001. Yet it's happening to hundreds of thousands of Chinese citizens—mostly farmers—every year. There are tens of thousands of anti-government "mass incidents" every year in the Chinese countryside. And most of them are over forced evictions. People are furious about it and it's causing widespread protests. So why doesn't the government just put an end to it?

Tenther News 12-26-12: NDAA, Obamacare and Agenda 21 Nullification in the States
tenthamendmentcenter.com This week's episode is made possible in part by the Tenth Amendment Center bookstore.. We've hand-picked the top-10 books for you to read. From history to how-to, get a lifetime education with the Tenther 10 -- online at tenthamendmentcenter.com ***** On what was either an ironic day, or just a sick joke played on the American people, last week on December 18th, the US House of Representatives removed whatever weak support their was for protecting due process from the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act, the NDAA. What made it an historic day? Well 68 years earlier on December 18, 1944, the Supreme Court decided the Korematsu case. This was the one where the supremes determined that is was "constitutional" for the federal government to throw people of Japanese descent into concentration camps based on their ethnic background. In both situations, the US federal government took due process and shredded it. But people around the country are beginning to realize that NDAA detention powers are a problem created by the federal government -- so relying on those same people to fix the problem THEY created is just plain idiotic. Already the state of Virginia has passed a law to nullify NDAA earlier this year and more than 15 local governments have done the same. Nevada State Senator Don Gustavson (R-Sparks) recently filed a bill draft request for the Nevada Liberty Preservation Act. While the final language has not been completed, the bill will ...

China News - October 11, 2012: Mo Yan's Nobel Prize Receives Mixed Reactions
In today's NTD China News, author Mo Yan is the first Chinese national to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, but reactions to his award have been mixed. Amnesty International reports a rise in forced eviction in China, fuelled by local governments needing funds to pay their debts. 14 people have died in a construction site fire in Shaanxi province. The Chinese regime has proposed a new organ donation system, amidst mounting international pressure over allegations it is harvesting organs from prisoners of conscience. The US has set the final anti-dumping duties on Chinese made solar panels. A veteran Hong Kong journalist says the Chinese regime has missed several chances to settle the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands dispute with Japan. Guilty Until Proven Innocent! Pt-1
Guilty Until Proven Innocent: Guns, Kids & FL Dept. of Children & Families Posted on December 28, 2012. As Jeff Gray greeted his son exiting the school bus, he could tell something was up. Soon after, Jeff received a call from Colleen Hagan, who invited herself to his house. It was then that Jeff was told he was under investigation, due to a call made to the hotline for Florida's Department of Children and Families (DCF). The caller -- whose identity was kept secret by Colleen -- accused Jeff of owning and shooting guns. Despite being thrown into such an undesirable situation, Jeff, who's no stranger to making transparent the actions of those who claim to serve and protect*, recorded the interaction. Colleen told Jeff that before she called him, she'd not only visited his son Marcus in middle school, but also went to the nearby elementary school, where she spoke with his two younger children, Melissa and Michael. Her actions, she justified, were due to a "report generated" by the DCF hotline -- a 24/7 that Colleen herself noted was "constantly taking phone calls" about "any concerns." Colleen Hagan Though Colleen attempted to lessen Jeff's rightful dismay at the situation by differentiating between "good calls" and a "false report", the full text of that hotline generated report as taken by her colleague, was merely: Dad has a lot of guns in the house. Dad shoots the guns out back. He has a lot of guns. Police come to the house to see dad and protect Marcus, Melissa, and ...

They successfully plant a charge on the truck that they intend to destroy; however, unbeknownst to them, it is filled with PETN.
