One of Carl Sagan's most pertinent messages for humanity
"Those worlds in space are as countless as all the grains of sand on all the beaches of the Earth. Each of those worlds is as real as ours. In every one of them, there's a sucsession of incidence, events, occurences which influence its future. Countless worlds, numberless moments, an immensity of space and time. And our small planet, at this moment, here we face a critical branch-point in the history. What we do with our world, right now, will propagate down through the centuries and powerfully affect the destiny of our descendants. It is well within our power to destroy our civilization, and perhaps our species as well. If we capitulate to superstition, or greed, or stupidty we can plunge our world into a darkness deeper than time between the collapse of classical civilization and the Italian Renaissaince. But, we are also capable of using our compassion and our intelligence, our technology and our wealth, to make an abundant and meaningful life for every inhabitant of this planet. To enhance enormously our understanding of the Universe, and to carry us to the stars." Carl Sagan explains the immensity of space and time. This clip is from Carl Sagan's Cosmos episode 8, "Journeys in Space and Time."

Carl Sagan's: Cosmos Part 1 - The Shores of the Cosmic Ocean
After an introduction by Ann Druyan, including the benefits of the end of the Cold War, Carl Sagan opens the program with a description of the cosmos and a "Spaceship of the Imagination" (shaped like a dandelion seed). The ship journeys through the universes' hundred billion galaxies, the Local Group, the Andromeda Galaxy, the Milky Way, the Orion Nebula, our Solar System, and finally the planet Earth. Eratosthenes' attempt to calculate the circumference of Earth leads to a description of the ancient Library of Alexandria. Finally, the "Ages of Science" are described, before pulling back to the full span of the Cosmic Calendar. Carl Sagan's last interview, part 1 of 3
Carl Sagan's last interview, part 1 of 3 Carl Sagan gave his last interview with Charlie rose on May 27th 1996. He discussed pseudo-science, religion, unfounded claims, his personal love affair with science and his struggle with myelodysplasia as well as other elements of his last book: The Demon-Haunted World. I thought it was important that a high quality copy of this interview, with proper audio video sync, was made available on youtube. The Demon-Haunted World changed my life in ways more profound than I thought possible. That book, and the name of Carl Sagan, should be known to every high school graduate. "Better the hard truth, I say, than the comforting fantasy. And in the final tolling it often turns out that the facts are more comforting than the fantasy." Part 1 of 3: www.youtube.com Part 2 of 3: www.youtube.com Part 3 of 3: www.youtube.com CORRECTION: It's come to my attention that Carl gave one other television interview before his death. It was aired on ABC's Nightline on December 4th 1996. A short clip from that interview can be seen below. Please ask ABC to make the entire interview available. www.youtube.com

"Pale Blue Dot - An Unauthorized View"...Episode 1: "Wanderers"
Originally uploaded to Google Video in July of 2007 (with very nearly 50000 views to its credit there), "Wanderers" finally makes its official, full-length (40 minutes), full-resolution, "unmodified" debut on YouTube. A quick scan of the other videos in the righthand column reveals a good many random, lower-resolution "versions" of this video (including one version very kindly subbed in Spanish!) that have been uploaded by others over the years. Thanks to all for keeping the fire burning. With Google Video's migration to YouTube now underway, I'm pleased to finally be able to bring this old war horse back to the stable. -=- Some time before he died in 1996, Carl Sagan recorded a partial audio version of his 1994 book "Pale Blue Dot". Often described as the "sequel" to Cosmos, the audio version of Pale Blue Dot is, at this moment, regrettably out of print. This video represents an "episode one" of sorts, the beginning of an unauthorized video series based on Carl Sagan's "Pale Blue Dot" audio book, combined with a soundtrack and appropriate images intended to recall the feel of classic BBC/PBS documentary series, such as "Ascent of Man" and "Cosmos". Episode two, in production seemingly forever, is on its way. -=- Please visit the project website: kasranov.blogspot.com. Sincere thanks to all for their messages of support and encouragement regarding the next episode. A project update and additional details about Episode 2 will be released soon. Carl Sagan - Cosmos Intro
The beautiful intro to the Cosmos television series. Carl Sagan talks about the universe and our place within it. The intro music is an excerpt from "Heaven & Hell Part I" by Vangelis. *NOTE 2: It appears Koch Entertainment (now "E1 Distribution") doesn´t wish to pull the video after all. I just got a private message basically saying they used the content search feature to place ads on the videos. Sounds like a sound approach, so yeah, hope you DON´T go bankrupt in the recession I guess :) And sorry about my ill-informed comments. *NOTE 1 (The following does NOT apply any more, please see note 2 for clarification): "Koch Entertainment" has just filed a copyright-claim against this clip, so I don´t know for how much longer it stays up. I´d like to thank you all for your ratings and wonderful comments. Finally, I´d like to say FUCK YOU KOCH ENTERTAINMENT, for trying to remove something that has probably made 100+ people go out and buy the series on DVD. I hope you go bankrupt in the recession. Cheers.* If you like, please write them an e-mail and tell them clips like these have encouraged lots of people to buy the thing: videomarketing@kochent.com If you want to buy the series on DVD you can get it here: www.amazon.com Or if you live in Europe you can buy it here: www.play.com

Carl Sagan's: Cosmos Part 2 - One Voice in the Cosmic Fugue
Sagan discusses the story of the Heike crab and artificial selection of crabs resembling samurai warriors, as an opening into a larger discussion of evolution through natural selection (and the pitfalls of the theory of intelligent design). Among the topics are the development of life on the Cosmic Calendar and the Cambrian explosion; the function of DNA in growth; genetic replication, repairs, and mutation; the common biochemistry of terrestrial organisms; the creation of the molecules of life in the Miller-Urey experiment; and speculation on alien life (such as life in Jupiter's clouds). In the Cosmos Update ten years later, Sagan remarks on RNA also controlling chemical reactions and reproducing itself and the different roles of comets (potentially carrying organic molecules or causing the Cretaceous--Tertiary extinction event) If you like this series, buy it! - www.amazon.com - www.dvdtalk.com Content property of Entertainment One (www.entertainmentonegroup.com)

This piece contains readings from Carl Sagan's "Pale Blue Dot". I have edited his words to tell this short narrative.
I took the time lapse images in Mexico and Utah.
The piano is self-composed. If you are interested in purchasing the instrumental song, you can do it here:

Everything in this video is created by myself except for the words of Carl Sagan.
I hope you enjoy this piece, it has given me hope once again.
UPDATE:
I would just like to thank everyone for all of your kind words. I feel humbled by all of your comments and privileged that I can be part of such a creative community.

Pale Blue Dot - Animation
I've been enrolled in illustration at Sheridan College for the the last 4 years and this is my final thesis project. I have always thought of Carl Sagan's writings as "scientific poetry" since they lack the cold touch that science is often cursed for having. I think Sagan's words resonate more than ever, and will continue with each generation until the human species "wakes up". The first time I heard this excerpt from his book "Pale Blue Dot" it literally changed my life, and I hope it does for you too. Enjoy.

Carl Sagan's: Cosmos Part 6 - Traveller's Tales
The journeys of the Voyager probes is put in the context of the Netherlands in the seventeenth century, with a centuries-long tradition of sailing ship explorers, and its contemporary thinks (such as Constantijn Huygens and his son Christian). Their discoveries are compared to the Voyager probes' discoveries among the Jovian and Saturn systems. In Cosmos Update, image processing reconstructs Voyager's worlds and Voyager's last portrait of the Solar System as it leaves is shown.
