Algerian Army surrounds hostage gas facility
www.euronews.com The Algerian army has surrounded a gas plant in the east of the country where Islamist militants claim to be holding 41 foriegn workers hostage. British, French, Japanese, American and Norwegian nationals are involved. A British national and an Algerian were killed when the In Amenas facility was stormed on Wednesday morning. Algeria's Interior Minister Dahou Ould Kablia says they want to leave the region and then the country, taking the hostages with them. "But as far as that goes, I can tell you the algerian government is not going to accept it," he added. The hostage-takers are said to be Algerian and led by Mokhtar Belmokhtar. He was a senior commander of Al Qaeda in the Islamic Magreb before leaving to set up his own group at the end of last year. "These events are not unconnected to the operation that we in France are undertaking, as well as all the African countries an all those who are participating in what we call the "Misma" or international mission to support Mali, whose aim is for Mali to regain its territorial integrity as soon as possible." said French President Francois Hollande. However, some reports contradict this claim, saying the call is for 100 Islamist prisoners to be freed from jail. The hostages are being held in one wing of the plant's living quarters, which the Algerian Army has surrounded. Find us on: Youtube bit.ly Facebook www.facebook.com Twitter twitter.com

France pledges military aid in Mali
www.euronews.com The French President François Hollande says French troops in Mali are helping the government fight an armed rebellion, which is sweeping the country. Hollande said: "I, on behalf of France, responded to the request for assistance from the President of Mali, supported by the West African countries." "Consequently, the French armed forces have given, this afternoon, support to Malian units to fight against the terrorists," the French President added. Following the rebels' consolidation of power in the north, they have now taken the city of Konna, opening the road to the south and the capital, Bangui. President Hollande's pledge of military aid comes as the Malian government has announced it is counter-attacking to retake Konna. Hollande had previously ruled out the use of French troops, saying the United Nations was best placed to negotiate a peaceful solution. French public backs Mali war: military intervention in Africa receives broad public support
France launched a military intervention in Mali last week in the hopes of assisting the Malian army to stem the rapid advance of jihadist forces from taking over the country, which could have potentially destabilized the entire region. It was the first big decision for French President Francois Hollande in terms of foreign affairs and has been hailed by the international community. A poll this week indicated that 63% of French support his decision, an attitude which is shared here on the streets of Paris.

France orders fresh strikes on Mali militant targets
www.euronews.com French warplanes have carried out a new wave of air strikes against Islamist militant targets in Mali. It is unclear how many aircraft took part in the overnight manoeuvre but officials say their objectives were met. One target was the town of Diabaly, in which rebels entered on Monday. France has already 750 troops on the ground and now wants to increase that number to 2500 in the coming weeks. Speaking during a day visit to Abu Dhabi, French President Francois Hollande, expressed confidence that French forces could swiftly stop the Islamist insurgency and return Mali to normal, especially with extra support from an African contingency. It is thought some 3300 Ecowas regional troops will be deployed as foreseen in a UN backed intervention plan. West African military chiefs are due to meet in Mali on Tuesday to discuss how such an alliance would operate on the ground. Senegal, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria and Guinea have all offered troops. But regional powerhouse Nigeria, which is due to lead the mission, has cautioned that even if some troops arrive in Mali soon, training will take time. I know that the British government is behind us." Earlier he said French forces had carried out further air strikes overnight in Mali "which hit their targets". "For now, we have 750 men and the number will increase so that as soon as possible we can leave the place to the African forces," he said.Foreign Office minister Mark Simmonds said the situation in Mali is a "grave concern" to the UK amid fears the rebel-held north could become a "springboard for extremism".ut he stressed David Cameron had offered only limited military support to Mr Hollande. The Prime Minister has made categorically clear that the initial supporting deployment will be for a period of one week," he told the Commons."He has also made clear that there will be no combat troops from the UK involved and we have no plans to provide more military assistance." A Baby's First Bath- Soulful
This makes me want to go back into the womb and float in peace.... Eternal Existence -Mridara At the beginning of time. When everything was created. Made to exist for an eternity. Changing shape and form as endless ages pass. We were the greatest once. But time moved. Bringing with it erosion. Like a vast sea eating away the shore. Change was the bride of existence. Together we moved with her. Time grew faster and days grew shorter. An erratic frenzy took hold. Stripping earth from all her richness. Raping her supreme goodness. Then my existence changed. I was chosen to enter life. A sperm, an ovum, a fusion. In her warm womb I was filled with the purest of innocence. Her heart beat a lullaby that nursed me into the deepest of slumbers. This was paradise like I had never felt before. Suddenly my peaceful shelter turned into hell. It moved in madness to spit me out. I felt fear. At last I was pushed out. Crying in anguish. A cold air enveloped me. Rough hands brutalized my body. They handed my shivering body to her. Her arms were warmer than wombs. Her bosom the softest. Her sublime love binding me to her forever. I had been scooped out of her very being. This new essence of life was beautiful. A divine existence. Days pass and my life grows old. My breath stops and I die. But we still exist. We shall evolve forever. Eternity is endless so are we. mridaraspoems.blogspot.in ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES ON THE VIDEO- Ramsay's ...

France bombs Mali rebels, African states ready troops
www.euronews.com French fighter jets have bombed Islamist rebels in central Mali for a third day on Sunday after claims the insurgents were just days away from seizing the capital Bamako. The continuous air-strikes were being carried out around three towns. Forces also recaptured Konna, a strategically located central town, a day after it was seized by Islamist rebels. Interior Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told French radio: "There are raids happening at the moment, there will be more this afternoon and tomorrow. The determination of the French President is absolute: we must eradicate this terrorism that could threaten the security of Mali, the security of our country (France) and of Europe." Last April, al Qaeda-linked militants snatched control of the north of the country and have recently pushed south. Paris deployed more than 500 troops to help prevent rebels advancing further. Meanwhile hundreds of people have come forward to give blood to help injured Malian solders, after a request from the president. At one centre in Bamako alone, medical staff collected more than 1000 pouches in one day. Mali's West African neighbours are expected to deploy troops to support government and French forces over the next few days. Find us on: Youtube bit.ly Facebook www.facebook.com Twitter twitter.com

Water ink _ BDDP Unlimited and Solidarités International - UK
To mark World Water Day, on March 22nd Solidarités International and its agency BDDP Unlimited will roll out a campaign to build awareness of the scourge of undrinkable water.
Today, it is estimated that 3.6 million people, including 1.5 million children under the age of 5, die every year of diseases borne by unhealthy water, making it the world’s leading cause of death.
Yet the public isn’t aware of it and political leaders do not demonstrate the drive it takes to end the terrible deaths. The campaign calls on journalists to spread awareness of this scourge and appeal to readers to sign a petition that will be personally handed to the French president during the 6th World Water Forum in March 2012.
To evoke the silent and invisible threat of unhealthy water, BDDP Unlimited opted for a minimalist approach that is both visually appealing and surprising, using water and ink exclusively. The spot shows the power of ink to reveal the invisible.
The spot, created by BDDP Unlimited, produced by Hush and directed by Clément Beauvais, a young director, illustrator, musician and photographer. His multiple talents and mastery of various techniques enabled him to both create the drawings and direct the spot.
The campaign will be seen from mid-March on TV, in cinemas, on the Internet and in print. A dedicated web site, www.votregouttedeau.org, will gather signatures for the petition.

UN supports France's military intervention in Mali
Chaos broke out in the African country after Malian President Amadou Toumani Toure was toppled in a military coup on March 22, 2012. The coup leaders said they mounted the coup in response to the government's inability to contain the Tuareg rebellion in the north of the country, which had been going on for two months.
