Netherlands East Indies Color Part 1
Indonesia was once known as The Netherlands East Indies......this is part 1 of a rare 1938 color film showing a journey by Train and Ocean Liner from the Netherlands to Batavia which is now Jakarta. Quite an adventure back then. Of course the journey could be made by aeroplane but that took two to three days. Going by Rail and Ship was really an adventure.

Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) at the 1938 FIFA World Cup
Please visit my websites: www.triond.com frassminggi.wordpress.com Video Courtesy of hunfoot channel www.youtube.com What is the first Asian country to qualify for football world cup and when? Indonesia, under the name Dutch East Indies, was the first Asian team to participate in the FIFA World Cup when they qualified to the 1938 tournament. The Indonesian national football team has only participated once in the FIFA World Cup, which is the 1938 World Cup in France, under the name Dutch East Indies. Although they are now independent from the Netherlands and has changed their name to Indonesia, FIFA considers them as the successor team of Dutch East Indies. The Indies played Hungary in their first game ever, losing 6-0. The straight knockout format used at the time made it the only game ever played by the Indonesians. Dutch East Indies (Indonesia): 1939 Trip around the World (Part 4 of 10)
Part 4 features scenes of the Indonesian islands of Sulawesi (formerly Celebes), Bali, and Java, and include a line-crossing ceremony when crossing the equator, the 15-meter high Bantimurung waterfall, Borobudur Stupa, a ninth-century Buddhist monument in Magelang, and picking tea from Cinchona trees. View all 10 parts: www.youtube.com Evelyn Reinhardt took this footage on her solo round-the-world trip in 1939. A history teacher at Southwest and, later, Roosevelt High School in St. Louis, Missouri (USA), Ms. Reinhardt complemented her history lessons with stories and films (such as this) from her exotic travels to both Asia and Europe. This particular trip satisfied Ms. Reinhardt's goal of traveling around the world before her 40th birthday. Indeed, she departed San Francisco, California on May 15, 1939 aboard the SS President Taft, and returned to New York, New York, aboard the SS Nieuw Amsterdam on September 4, 1939, twenty three days before she turned 40. Filmed in black and white 16mm film. No audio. Regrettably, the film deteriorated significantly before it was digitized.

Sumatra: "Island of Yesterday" 1920 Goodyear Rubber Plantations in the Dutch East Indies
more at news.quickfound.net "Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., Inc., Motion Picture Division Goodyear's own film about its rubber plantations on the island of Sumatra, depicting Sumatra's culture in a highly patronizing and racist fashion." Silent. Public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archive, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. en.wikipedia.org Sumatra (Indonesian: Sumatera) is an island in western Indonesia, westernmost of the Sunda Islands. It is the largest island entirely in Indonesia (two larger islands, Borneo and New Guinea, are shared between Indonesia and other countries) and the sixth largest island in the world at 473481 km2 with a population of 50365538. Its biggest city is Medan with a population of 2109330. Sumatra is an elongated landmass spanning a diagonal northwest-southeast axis. The Indian Ocean borders the west, northwest, and southwest sides of Sumatra with the island chain of Simeulue, Nias and Mentawai bordering the southwestern coast. On the northeast side the narrow Strait of Malacca separates the island from the Malay Peninsula, an extension of Eurasian continent. On the southeast the narrow Sunda Strait separates Sumatra from Java. The northern tip of Sumatra borders the Andaman islands, while on the lower eastern side are the islands of Bangka and Belitung, Karimata Strait and the Java Sea. I HEART BOY - BOOK PREVIEW
With an erotic softness and quiet confidence, the young, fully-nude subjects in I Heart Boy exhibit a willingness to be celebrated by all for their beauty and openness. Posing in the intimacy of their own homes, often in studio apartments in Manhattan’s East Village and Lower East Side, lanky, hairless bodies are posed sensually against the minimalist backgrounds of naturally lit rooms with sparse furnishings.
Welcome to today’s gay ideal of the male nude, an aesthetic with nods to Larry Clark and the 80s underground music scene, and appreciated by the likes of designer Hedi Slimane, American Apparel, and the most popular indie bands from New York, L.A., London, Paris, and Berlin. Yatrofsky’s waif-like men—merely boys just a few years ago, bordering on androgynous, with an occasional tattoo and a bit of punk swagger to match their youthful naiveté—hardly resemble even the shadow of the beefcake of generations past. This is the undressed and carefree look of today’s urban trendsetter—whose style trickles out of the young, creative circles in cities, only to be copied elsewhere tomorrow.
With each photograph, these sexually charged images of male bodies invite the viewer to dwell upon the welcome tenderness of warm skin. Ultimately I Heart Boy is a series of nudity in the purest sense; of being simply bared as human before the world.

SILENCE OF DEATH directed by Mani Nasry (16MM FILM) 1ST YEAR RYERSON UNIVERSITY STUDENT FILM
IMDB PAGE
www.imdb.me/maninasry
This Scene expresses- FEAR- noun: an emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger (usually accompanied by a desire to flee or fight). noun: a feeling of anxiety and agitation caused by the presence or nearness of danger, evil, pain, etc.; timidity; dread; terror; fright; apprehension. Terrify not your soul with vain imaginary fears. By realizing that you are the one feeding the fire, you can start to take control of your fears. Panic is a vicious cycle that can be broken. When you start to have irrational fears you need to take action quick. Eleanor Roosevelt once said: "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing, which you think you cannot do." We must stop running away from things that frighten us, face our fears head on, and do the thing we fear the most. Most of the time we'll find out that the "thing" was not that scary after all. Our imaginations had behaved like a super fertilizer and grown a grotesque monstrosity in our minds. Remember, our imaginations are incredibly powerful. They can work against us, creating horrible images that leave us paralyzed with fear and they can also work for us, building a world where everything we do is an adventure, a miracle. And the most amazing thing is that we hold the power to control our minds - we allow fear to dominate our lives or we choose to dominate fear. Those are our only two choices.

Indonesia- The Evacuation of the Dutch East Indies - Tempo Doeloe
It's early 1947, and Indonesia is in a power vacuum, with the Imperial British Indian army taking power after the surrender of Japanese forces, facing a hostile local population, who demanded full independence, and resisted any attempt at renewed colonization by the Netherlands. Caught in this power vacuum are the former "Dutch East Indies" civilian, and military population who were imprisoned in internment camps by the Japanese, after their successful invasion in 1942. When the internment camps started to be liberated, and those who survived often horrendous conditions, entered a land they were no more welcome in, the British forces under the command of Lord Mountbatten decided to evacuate them to the Netherlands. Many of these evacuees were never to return to Indonesia, although it would be the first time they have been back "home." Their legacy helped change the face of modern Holland, and still remains one of the most bitter sweet memories for many, who boarded the boats, and sailed into an unknown future.
