Swimming World Magazine is an American-based monthly swimming magazine, that was first published in a magazine format as Junior Swimmer in January 1960. It runs an online swimming website (known as SwimInfo prior to 2006), which is the leading online swimming news website.

In its earliest form, Junior Swimmer began as a mimeograph/newsletter published by Peter Daland in the summer of 1952. In 1960, Coach Daland passed the responsibility of the project to Albert Schoenfeld due to Daland's greater coaching demands as the swim coach at the University of Southern California and the Los Angeles Athletic Club.

The publication then combined with Swimming World in June 1961. Swimming World was a mimeograph/newsletter published for the previous 10 years by Robert J. H. Kiphuth. The newly constituted magazine was then known as Junior Swimmer-Swimming World.

The magazine has a monthly publication rate of roughly 50,000 issues. It also has correspondents in Europe and Australia, and keeps track of all major FINA-sanctioned competitions, as well as tabulating extensive records of competitions ranging from junior to masters level swimming. It also provides advice on health related and technique issues for people with an interest in swimming.

World Magazines are magazines about specific foreign countries that help people of different countries, languages, and cultures to understand that country. Magazines that focus on many different countries from the perspective of the reader country are not 'World Magazines.' They are 'Global Magazines,' while magazines that are sold in many countries, but with no consistent focus on the culture and society of one country, are 'International Magazines.'

For example, a person in America wishing to learn about Japan could pick up the National Geographic, which is both a global and an international magazine, but only if it had a feature on Japan. Someone with a stronger commitment to understanding that country would be better advised to subscribe to a magazine that focuses entirely on Japan but with articles in his native tongue, unless, of course, he was bilingual.

If he was an English speaker, he could select a magazine like Tokyo Journal or Kyoto Journal, both of which are produced in Japan in English. A German reader would be able to choose Japanmarkt, although this is limited to business issues, rather than cultrual and social areas. Someone wishing to undersytand more about Azerbaijan could subscribe to Azerbaijan International. Although this is not produced in Azerbaijan, it focuses entirely on Azerbaijan and helps to promote understanding of that country, so it is therefore a world magazine. Indeed, often, due to limitations on the freedom of the press or security issues, a World magazine may need to be based in a foreign country.

Brett Hawke (born 2 June 1975 in Sydney, New South Wales) is a retired sprint swimmer who competed for Australia at the 2000 Summer Olympics and 2004 Summer Olympics. He is now the head coach of Auburn University's swimming and diving program.

Hawke competed for Auburn from 1996–1999 and was a 17-time All-American swimmer. He was a nine-time NCAA champion and helped Auburn win two national titles in his three years as a student-athlete.

Hawke returned to Australia in 1999. For much of his career, Hawke was regarded as the top sprinter in Australia. He is a five-time Australian champion and former Australian Record holder in the 50 m freestyle (22.07), which he set in the semifinals of the 2004 Olympics. Hawke retired from competitive swimming after the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, where he won bronze in the 50 m freestyle and silver with the 4x100 m freestyle relay. Hawke finished his career with seven international medals.

Hawke trained at The Race Club, a swimming techniques training club founded by Olympic Swimmers Gary Hall, Jr. and his father, Gary Hall, Sr. The Race Club, originally known as "The World Team," was designed to serve as a training group for elite swimmers across the world in preparation for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. To be able to train with the Race Club, one must either have been ranked in the top 20 in the world the past 3 calendar years or top 3 in their nation in the past year. The Race Club included such well known swimmers as Roland Mark Schoeman, Mark Foster, Ryk Neethling, and Therese Alshammar.

Ryan Steven Lochte (born August 3, 1984) is an American swimmer and a six-time Olympic medalist (three gold, two silver, one bronze). As part of the American team, he holds the world record in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay (long course). Individually, he currently holds the world record in the 200-meter individual medley (long and short course) and the 400-meter individual medley (short course).

Lochte's success has earned him the World Swimmer of the Year Award and the American Swimmer of the Year Award twice. He has also been named the FINA Swimmer of the Year twice. He has won a total of fifty-seven medals in major international competition, thirty-seven gold, eleven silver, and nine bronze spanning the Olympics, the World, Pan American, and the Pan Pacific Championships.

Lochte specializes in the backstroke and individual medley, but is also a freestyle swimmer. He is noted for the speed and distance he attains while kicking underwater. Lochte is also known for his dominance in the short course format (25-yard long swimming pool).

Penny Lee Dean is an American long distance swimmer began her career with her swim across frigid San Francisco bay at age 10. Later, as a swimmer for Pomona College, she was a six-time All-American. By 1976, she had swum from the mainland of California to Catalina Island in the overall world record of 7:15:55 - 1.5 hours under the former record, and a record that still stands. The next year she set the world record from the island to the mainland on her way to a 50 mile double crossing of the Catalina Channel in 20:03.

Dean is perhaps best known for her world record for the fastest swim across the English Channel in 1978 in a time of 7:40, shattering the previous record by over 1 h and 5 mins. The record stood for both men and women for until September 1995 when it was lowered to 7:17 by Chad Hundeby, whom she coached.

She continued her long distance swimming career for another three years, winning at Windermere in England, Lake St. John, LaTugue, Lakes Memphremagog and Paspebiac in Quebec, and Atlantic City in New Jersey, setting women's world records in most of them. She was Women's World Professional Champion in 1979 accumulating 1,000 points over her next rival. Dean served as U.S. National Team Coach of Open Water Swimming from 1988 through 1991, Head Coach of U.S. teams to the 1991 Pan Pacific Championships, 1991 World Championships, 1982 and 1990 Windermere Championships, 1990 English Channel Race, 1984 and 1989 Catalina Channel Race and coach of nine solo Catalina Channel crossers.
