Bangkok - Thailand
Bangkok is the capital, largest urban area and primary city of Thailand. Known in Thai as Krung Thep Mahanakhon , or Krung Thep for short, it was a small trading post at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River during the Ayutthaya Kingdom. It came to the forefront of Siam when it was given the status as the capital city in 1768 after the burning of Ayutthaya. However, the current Rattanakosin Kingdom did not begin until 1782 when the capital was moved across the river by Rama I after the death of King Taksin. The Rattanakosin capital is now more formally called "Phra Nakhon", pertaining to the ancient boundaries in the metropolis' core and the name Bangkok now incorporates the urban build-up since the 18th century which has its own public administration and governor. In the span of over two hundred years, Bangkok has grown to become the political, social and economic center of not only Thailand but for Indochina and Southeast Asia. Its influence in the arts, politics, fashion, education and entertainment as well as being a business, financial and cultural center of Asia has given Bangkok the status of a global city. Bangkok has a population of approximately 6355144 residents while the greater Bangkok area has a population of 11971000 (January 2008). This has in turn shifted the country from being a rather homogeneous Thai population to an increasingly vibrant mix of Western, Indian and Chinese people, giving the city a cosmopolitan status. The capital is part of the heavily ...

CityTarget and other Big-Box Stores moving to Urban Areas
blog.euromonitor.com Target opened its City Target stores in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Seattle at the end of July, 2012. Euromonitor International research analysts Howard Telford and Virginia Lee discuss the new CityTarget concept and how this allows Target to go after the growing urban population in the US. The smaller CityTarget stores have been tailored for the urban environment in terms of store design, offering the "P-Fresh" format to obtain fill-in grocery trips. Wal-Mart is also seeking to reach the urban consumer with its new smaller Walmart Neighborhood Market and Walmart Express formats.

Long Term Confinement Area For Puppies By Urban Dog Training
When you are unable to supervise your puppy because you're physically or MENTALLY absent, it's best to confine them somewhere safe where no harm can come to them or to your belongings. This sets your puppy up for success since unsupervised access to any part of your home -- indoors or outdoors -- provides too many opportunities for you puppy to make bad choices and house training (potty training mistakes). An instructional video from Urban Dog Training.

TOEFL writing test 2 3
This video contains TWO complete sample writing tests. In the real TOEFL, you will only have to write TWO ESSAYS, not FOUR. HERE IS TEXT 1 (You have 3 minutes to read it and take notes) In response to a change in the way companies expect their employees to do their work, schools have begun to focus more on group work. Students are now expected to complete projects as a team, rather than simply demonstrate individual knowledge on a test. This shift toward teamwork is a good development. The biggest advantage of having a group of people tackle a problem is that the solution is likely to be found much more quickly. Every person in the world has unique skills and abilities. When a group of people is assembled, each persons special ability can contribute to the ability of the team. Moreover, breaking a large project into smaller, more manageable pieces makes the work get done much more quickly. Secondly, teamwork encourages individuals to try out bold new ideas and this produces better and more creative results. As the saying goes, Two heads are better than one. When a group of people come up with more varied ideas and combine those ideas, they can produce a more original and creative result Moreover there is less likely to be an unsolvable issue when many brains are working on a problem from various angles. This means that teamwork often leads to a better, more creative outcome than individual work does. Strangely enough, being a member of a team can actually encourage ...

Fences Down! Fostering Community in an Urban Neighborhood
Peak Moment 179: Gardens replace driveways, a chicken coop replaces a garage, and personal relationships are deepening. Meet the residents of three adjoining houses, who removed the fences and talk about shared projects (and their one auto!), meals together, ecological living, and treasured conviviality. This idea could transform urban and suburban neighborhood life anywhere.

La Brea Tar Pits: An Urban Mystery. Winner Bronze Telly Award 2012.
The Rancho La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, California are widely regarded as one of the richest sources of mammal fossils in the world. Approximately 60 species have been identified, including saber-tooth cat, bear, lion, wolf, camel, bison, and mastodon. Also found were seventeen human bones, including a pelvis and a skull, as well as a number of artifacts such as milling stones and bone hairpins. The conventional explanation for the abundance and diversity of this fossil material is that successive animal entrapment episodes had created an ever-growing mass of bones at the bottom of tar pools. An unwary horse, for example, might step into a seemingly benign pool of water to get a drink. Becoming ensnared in the tar underneath the watery surface, its distress cries would draw hungry carnivores, such as wolves, seeking an easy meal. These carnivores would themselves slip and fall into the pool, becoming, like their prey, inescapably trapped.

euronews learning world - Education bridging rural-urban divide
In this edition of our special "Learning World" series we take a look at three countries. Migrants to China's ever-expanding cities are denied state education, so they are doing it for themselves. Free schools are catering to this thirst for knowledge. The Democratic Republic of Congo's Kinshasa sucks the life out of the rural areas around it. Those who fail in the big city end up on the streets, but one school is trying to teach new skills that will enable children to return home and rejuvenate their rural communities. ... www.euronews.net
