What is Ethics?
Ethics asks how we should live, what choices we should make and what makes our lives worth living.
It helps us define the conditions of a good choice and then figure out which of all the options available to us is the best one.
Ethics is the process of questioning, discovering and defending our values, principles and purpose. It’s about finding out who we are and staying true to that in the face of temptations, challenges and uncertainty. It’s not always fun and it’s hardly ever easy, but if we commit to it, we set ourselves up to make decisions we can stand by, building a life that’s truly our own and a future we want to be a part of.

This is a philosophy video lecture that compresses a course that normally takes 15 weeks into just one video. Or really, it only manages to condense half of that course into 22 minutes.
What is the morally right thing to do? Is there some moral law that applies to everyone, or is morality relative in some way? And what’s so good about morality anyway? To answer these questions, we read Plato, Aristotle, Hobbes, Hume, Bentham, Locke, Kant, Nietzsche, Nozick, Singer, O’Neill and others. This is an introductory level philosop...

What is the difference between Ethics, Morality and the Law?
The world around us is a smorgasbord of beliefs, claims, rules and norms about how we should live and behave.
It’s important to tease this jumble of ethical pressures apart so we can put them in their proper place. Otherwise, it can be hard to know what to do when some of these requirements contradict others.
Let’s talk about three different categories of demands on how we should live: ethics, morality and law.

ETHICS
When you’re faced with a tough decision, how do you figure out what to do? What guidelines or examples do you use to make up your mind, and what happens when there’s more than one good way to act? If you’re not able to answer, don’t worry--philosophers have been debating these issues for thousands of years. And in this BrainPOP movie on ethics, Tim and Moby offer you some simple advice on what to do when you’re faced with tough choices about right and wrong, or good and bad. You’ll learn some rules of thumb about ethical decision making, including ways to find a solution that does the most good while doing the least amount of harm. And Tim will walk you through the decision making process as you learn the most ethical ways to deal with common situations like bullying and cheating in class....

Aristotle, Hobbes, Hume, Bentham, Locke, Kant, Nietzsche, Nozick, Singer, O’Neill and others. This is an introductory level philosophy course. Students do not need any prior experience with philosophy.

Puzzle through a classic ethical dilemma and decide: how do we determine the value of a life, whether human or non-human?
--
To protect against a possible resurgence of smallpox, the US government is funding research to improve treatments and vaccines. And since it’s unethical to expose people to a highly lethal virus, labs are using monkeys as research subjects. But is it right to harm these animals to protect humanity from a potential threat? Rebecca L. Walker takes a look at this classic ethical dilemma.
Lesson by Rebecca L. Walker, directed by Sharon Colman.

And Tim will walk you through the decision making process as you learn the most ethical ways to deal with common situations like bullying and cheating in class. Ethics isn’t just for adults, so click on this movie and find out more.
