Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/cnforbiddennews Like us on FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/chinaforbiddennews In mid-December, police killed 10 Uighurs in Shufu County, Kashgar region, Xinjiang during a so-called 'terrorist attack.' A similar killing occurred on Monday Dec. 30 in Shache (Yarkand) County, Kashgar. The state-owned media reported that eight of the nine 'attackers' were killed at the scene and one was arrested. An NTD television reporter was told by local residents that they weren't aware of the incident, and no bombing attack had taken place. Someone else said that the police told them to keep silent. Overseas-based World Uyghur Congress (WUC) questioned the current Chinese regime's reformed means of repressing the Uighurs by directly firing on and killing them and then accusing them of so-called terror. CHINA WESTERN
Slideshow showing an extract of my book "China Western" about Xinjiang, published by La Fabrica in 2010.
CHINA WESTERN refers to Xinjiang, the westernmost chinese province. It borders with Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikstan, Kirgizstan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. Autoctonous uighurs are musmlim, have turkish origins, and claim independence for what they call East Turkestan from the chinese, whom they consider an occupying colonial power. Xinjiang is very rich in oil and gas, and it's the chinese natural way towards Caspian oil reservoirs. China is tightening commercial and political ties with several countries in Central Asia in order to open new commercial land routes to the Caucasus and, eventually, Europe. All the photos were shot in December 2006, 2007 and 2008.

On a tightrope trailer
On a tightrope is an award-winning poetic documentary film about the daily lives of four orphans learning the ancient art of tightrope walking.
The children belong to China's persecuted Muslim Uighur minority, and the tightrope becomes a metaphor for the struggle of the Uighurs who are torn between their own culture and the communist governments demand for obedience.
On A Tightrope
is the first Norwegian documentary to compete in the Sundance Film Festival. It has won the Watch Doc Award, Chicago Doc Short Film Grand Prix and the International Section Award at the Astra Film Festival.
