Man Eating Sugar. New York City Health Department.
You'd never eat 16 packs of sugar. Why would you drink 16 packs of sugar? There are 16 packs of sugar in one 20 oz. bottle of soda. All those extra calories can bring on obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Go with water, fat-free milk, seltzer or unsweetened tea instead. Visit us at facebook.com/EatingHealthyNYC

Health Dept Tyrants Raid Local 'Farm to Fork' Picnic Dinner
Orders all food to be destroyed with bleach Ethan A. Huff Natural News Friday, November 11, 2011 It is the latest case of extreme government food tyranny, and one that is sure to have you reeling in anger and disgust. Health department officials recently conducted a raid of Quail Hollow Farm, an organic community supported agriculture (CSA) farm in southern Nevada, during its special "farm to fork" picnic dinner put on for guests — and the agent who arrived on the scene ordered that all the fresh, local produce and pasture-based meat that was intended for the meal be destroyed with bleach. For about five years now, Quail Hollow Farm has been growing organic produce and raising healthy, pasture-based animals which it provides to members as part of a CSA program. And it recently held its first annual "Farm to Fork Dinner Event," which offered guests an opportunity to tour the farm, meet those responsible for growing and raising the food, and of course partake in sharing a meal composed of the delicious bounty with others. www.quailhollowfarmcsa.com But when the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) got word of the event and decided to get involved, this simple gathering of friends and neighbors around a giant, family-style picnic table quickly became a convenient target for the heavy hand of an out-of-control government agency. And Monte and Laura Bledsoe, the owners and operators of Quail Hollow Farm, were unprepared for what would happen next. SNHD official Mary Oaks ...

Walter Williams: Up From the Projects
In 1981, Secretary of Health Education and Welfare Patricia Harris wrote in the Washington Post that libertarian economists Walter Williams and Thomas Sowell are "middle class" so they "don't know what it is to be poor." In fact, Williams grew up in a single-parent household in a poor section of Philadelphia. He was raised by his mother, who was a high school dropout. The family spent time on welfare, and eventually moved into the Richard Allen public housing project. (Sowell, whose father died before he was born, was the son of a maid.) Drafted into the peacetime Army, Williams eventually earned a PhD from UCLA in the late 1960s and quickly became a sought-after researcher and public intellectual. His best known book, 1982's The State Against Blacks, argues that a major cause of black unemployment is government intervention in the labor market. Williams' contrarian views have had wide exposure through documentaries, public appearances, and for the past 30 years, a syndicated weekly column. Since 1992, Williams has also been a frequent guest host of Rush Limbaugh's radio show. Now a professor emeritus at George Mason University, Williams has taught at Temple University, California State University-Los Angeles, and other universities. (Go here for his personal web page.) His new book, Up from the Projects: An Autobiography, is a fascinating look at his childhood, his half-century-long marriage to his recently departed wife, his unusual career path, and the genesis of his ...

NIH Yoga Week: Alan Finger: On The Purpose of Hatha Yoga (1/7)
iHanuman humbly presents this week's featured offering. This recording is part of a week iHanuman spent covering the first Annual National Institutes of Health Yoga Week. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is part of the US Department of Health and Human Services and is the primary Federal agency for conducting and supporting medical research. Dr. Rachel Permuth Levine and her colleagues at NIH put on quite a show with live yoga demonstrations, yoga for the office classes, and incredible speakers each day. The event was free and open to the public and Rachel has just informed us that the 2nd Annual NIH Yoga Week is in the works for September 2009, so stay tuned. In the meantime, please enjoy listening to the meditative wisdom of Yogiraj Alan Finger as he describes to you the system of yoga he developed called ISHTA YOGA, an acronym for the Integrated Sciences of Hatha, Tantra, and Ayurveda. It is also a beautiful sanskrit word meaning that which resonates with an individual's spirit. Yogiraj Alan Finger, was a wonderful opening speaker with his 47 years of yoga experience to share within 45 minutes. His presence is peaceful, his intelligence bright and he resonates with the essence of yoga. We hope this comes across in the recorded selections. Listen to the entire recorded talk on iHanuman or subscribe to our podcast and receive the entire recording as a download.

US Govt Raid Small Farmers, Health Stores, Organic Markets
Daily News @ RevolutionNews.US ~ VENICE, CA — Raw Food SWAT Police Confiscate Yogurt at Gunpoint... It was an average weekday morning last month at Rawesome Foods in Venice, California when federal, state, and local authorities busted in, guns drawn, looking for an illicit stash of raw milk. Law enforcement at its finest. The Los Angeles Times has the details of the raid, and Rawesome Foods's surveillance video, which shows police entering the premises as if they're busting into a warehouse full of cocaine. The authorities were there to confiscate jugs of raw goat and cow milk, which Rawesome sells to local connoisseurs. One official told the LAT, "This is not about restricting the public's rights. This is about making sure people are safe." Still reeling from the experience, Rawesome volunteer Sea J. Jones, who "still can't believe they took our yogurt," throws the neighborhood potheads under the bus "There's a medical marijuana shop a couple miles away, and they're raiding us because we're selling raw dairy products?" Nice. The raid was executed on June 30 by the Los Angeles County district attorney's office, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the California Department of Food and Agriculture, the FDA and the US Department of Agriculture. Afterward, they posted a sign on the front door that said Rawesome had been "operating a food facility without a valid public health permit." The interagency raid hauled in an impressive amount of contraband, too ...

Citizen realizes state of Philippine public health
An ordinary citizen chances upon health workers protesting the privatization of government hospitals -- and realizes how right they are in the issues they raise. Christian Quintero, whose mother is undergoing daily dialysis, couldn't agree more with the protesters. It's her plight, as well as those of the countless more needing health care in the Philippines, that the health activists are fighting for. (For anyone interested in helping Christian Quintero's mother, please call +63928-3187934)
