Syrian PM in Tehran to discuss regional developments
Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi arrived in Tehran heading a high-ranking economic and political delegation. On the first day of his visit to Tehran, Syria's Prime Minister has held separate meetings with senior Iranian officials including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and secretary of Iran's supreme national security council Saeed Jalili. The health officials of both sides also discussed bilateral cooperation; meanwhile, officials explored ways to enhance economic ties and increase the volume of investment; The visit comes as Syria has been hit by a crisis since March 2011. Thousands of people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed in the turmoil. The Syrian opposition is backed by the US, a few European countries, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. In an address on January 6, the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad proposed a new strategic roadmap for dialogue with the opposition and political parties to resolve the crisis in Syria. Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has once again reaffirmed Tehranan's support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's roadmap for the restoration of peace to his crisis-stricken country. Tehran Conference belies US Syria claims: Webster Tarpley
An Iranian lawmaker says the United States seeks to downplay Iran's crucial role in resolving the Syrian crisis. Mohammad Saleh Jokar made the remark in response to the US reaction to Iran's holding of a recent consultative meeting on Syria. Iran hosted the day-long meeting on Thursday, August 7 to discuss the Syrian unrest. The gathering was attended by officials and representatives from nearly 30 countries. The United States dismissed the importance of the conference and criticized the Islamic Republic for supporting the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government. Non-Aligned Movement conference in Tehran
This week Iran witnessed maybe one of the biggest international gatherings in its history. Representatives from more than 120 countries came for the 16th summit of the non-aligned-movement; movement that, after the United Nations, has the most members. Such a big event has warranted a lot of preparation on Iran's part. Iran's police have deployed 110 thousand security forces, and a lot of office buildings across the capital have been close for at least five days. In the run up to the NAM summit in Tehran western and Israeli media strove to downplay the significance of the event. Nevertheless state officials from more than 50 countries came to Tehran. Iran has been a member for 33 years but this is the first time it will be assuming the presidency of the Non-Aligned-Movement. In this edition of the show we'll be talking about the NAM summit in Tehran, and discussing NAM's doctrine and goals in general. Despite what all the media are yammering at you, despite all the fear mongering about Iran's "nuclear threat" (Iran has been fully verified by the IAEA and ALL the U.S. intelligence community agree and are on record that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons), despite talk that Iran is intolerant, despite the daily barrage of bad press and unpleasant innuendo, Iran is a great country, friendly, cultured, fun and spiritually-minded!
The "Powers That Were" are dead set on taking us to war against Iran, but "They lied about Vietnam... Iraq...Afghanistan..." and "Iran Is NOT Our Enemy ! " :-)
