The city stands at an elevation of approximately 1,400 metres (4,600 ft) in the bowl-shaped valley in central Nepal surrounded by four major hills: Shivapuri, Phulchowki, Nagarjun and Chandragiri. Kathmandu valley is part of three districts, Kathmandu District, Lalitpur District and Bhaktapur District, with the highest population density in the country and accounting for about 1/15 of its population. These three disticts contain 2.5 million people, as of the 2011 census.

Starting his career as a child actor in his uncle Nasir Hussain's film Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973), Khan began his professional career eleven years later with Holi (1984) and had his first commercial success with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988). He received his first National Film Award as a Special Jury Award for his roles in the films Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) and Raakh (1989). Kapoor's first role in an international film was in Danny Boyle's 2008 Academy Award-winning film Slumdog Millionaire, for which he shared the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. His performance in the eighth season of the action series 24 generated rave reviews from the American press. Globally, Anil Kapoor is one of the most recognised Indian actors. He has also appeared in the 2011 film Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

Anupam Kher
Anupam Kher (born 7 March 1955) is an Indian actor who has appeared in nearly 450 films and 100 plays. Though mainly appearing in Bollywood films, he has had roles in some films from other nations as well. He has held the post of Chairman of the Censor Board and National School of Drama in India.

Arjun Sarja (born Sreenivasa Sarja Ashok Babu Sakthi Prasad Arjun on 15 August 1964) is an Indian film actor and director. During this period, King Dipendra and several family members were assassinated leading to a period of riots, which Conroy advised the Australian Broadcasting Corporation of the situation, which was unclear at the time. During his period of being the ambassador, Conroy reportedly proposed marriage to Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, who came from a well-connected Nepalese political family. After leaving Kathmandu in 2002, he was the Deputy Chief of Mission in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

Saath Saath, Chashme Buddoor and Mirch Masala are some of her films from the era. She was often cast with Farooq Shaikh. Though considered as talented as Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil she somehow did not achieve the same stature in terms of awards or memorable casts.

Dimple Kapadia
Dimple Chunnibhai Kapadia (born 8 June 1957) is an Indian film actress. She made her acting debut at the age of 16, playing the title role in Raj Kapoor's teen romance Bobby (1973). In that same year she married Indian actor Rajesh Khanna, and retired from acting. Kapadia returned to the film industry in 1984 after her separation from Khanna. Regarded as a sex symbol, Kapadia was keen to avoid being stereotyped and expand her range of acting roles. Farida Jalal, a native of New Delhi, started her career in the 1960s, when she won the United Film Producers Talent Hunt sponsored by Filmfare. Sahabzade Irrfan Ali Khan, previously known as Irrfan Khan and now just Irrfan (Hindi: इरफ़ान ख़ान; born on 7th January 1967 ), is an Indian actor in film, television and theatre. He received recognition for his roles in The Warrior (2001), Maqbool (2003), Haasil (2004), The Namesake (2006), A Mighty Heart (2007), Life in a... Metro (2007), Slumdog Millionaire (2008), Billu (2009), New York (2009), New York, I Love You (2009), Paan Singh Tomar (film) (2012), and Vodafone commercials.
He has won two Filmfare Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and an Independent Spirit Award nomination. He is also the recipient of 2011 Padma Shri award, the fourth highest civilian award in India. He has also been cast in The Amazing Spider-Man as Dr. Ratha. He has appeared in more than 30 films in the Bollywood.
Khan was born in Jaipur to a Muslim family. Khan's mother, Sayeeda Begum, was from the Tonk Hakim family, and his father, the late Jagirdar, was from the Khajuriya village near the Tonk district, and ran a tyre business. Jahanara Begum Sahib
Shahzadi (Imperial Princess) Jahanara Begum Sahib (Urdu: شاهزادی جہاں آرا بیگم صاحب) (April 2, 1614 – September 16, 1681) was the eldest daughter of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal.
Upon the death of Mumtaz Mahal in 1631, Jahanara, who was just 17, took the place of her mother as first lady in the country, despite her father having three other wives. As well as caring for her younger brothers and sisters, she is also credited with bringing her father out of mourning and restoring normality to a court darkened by her mother's death and her father's grief. One of her tasks after the death of her mother was to oversee the betrothal and wedding of her brother, Dara Shikoh, to a begum, Nadira Banu which had been originally planned by Mumtaz Mahal but postponed by her death. Jahanara's mother Arjumand Banu Begum, Empress Mumtaz Muhal died while giving birth.
Mumtaz Mahal's personal fortune valued at 10,000,000 rupees was divided by Shah Jahan between Jahanara Begum, who received half and the rest of her surviving children.

Jayalalithaa Jayaram (born 24 February 1948, and commonly referred to as J. Jayalalitha), is the Chief Minister of the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Mansoor Khan
Mansoor Khan, son of film maker Nasir Hussain, made his directorial debut with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) which launched the career of his cousin Aamir Khan. The film, a soft Romeo-Juliet inspired romantic drama, was a huge success. Coming towards the end of a decade dominated by action-oriented films, Mansoor Khan's directorial debut paved the way back for the musical romantic genre in Bollywood. Mansoor Khan attended several engineering colleges only to drop out and later pursued his career in Bollywood. He attended some of the very well known colleges like IIT Bombay, Cornell, M.I.T. Meena Kumari
Meena Kumari (1 August 1932 – 31 March 1972), born Mahjabeen Bano, was an Indian movie actress and poetess. She is regarded as one of the most prominent actresses to have appeared on the screens of Hindi Cinema. Onir (born on 30 April 1969) is an Indian film director, editor, writer and producer. He is best known for his film My Brother…Nikhil, one of the first mainstream Hindi films to deal with AIDS and same-sex relationships.
He was born as Anirban Dhar in Thimphu, Bhutan. His father Aparesh Dhar and mother are of Bengali origin. Onir spent much of his childhood going to the cinema with his mother. In 1986 his family left Bhutan after the government made driglam namzha, the Bhutanese national dress and etiquette code, mandatory. According to Onir, "I didn't want to be a second class Bhutanese citizen, I preferred to be Indian citizen." Earlier, Aparesh Dhar had resigned from his position as a school principal when his Nepalese students were removed and arrested (they were later found dead). In Kolkata, Onir studied comparative literature and took a few film classes at Chitrabani film school. He graduated from Jadavpur University in 1989, but left before getting his post-graduate degree when he received a scholarship to study films in Berlin. He later returned to India and worked as an editor for music videos and films like Bhoot and Rahul. He also served as an assistant to Kalpana Lajmi on Daman: A Victim of Marital Violence (2001) where he had his first experience directing a full-length feature film.

His first plays were written later than those of Aeschylus, and earlier than or contemporary with those of Euripides. For almost 50 years, Sophocles was the most-fêted playwright in the dramatic competitions of the city-state of Athens that took place during the religious festivals of the Lenaea and the Dionysia. He competed in around 30 competitions, won perhaps 24, and was never judged lower than second place. Aeschylus won 14 competitions, and was sometimes defeated by Sophocles, while Euripides won only 4 competitions.
The most famous tragedies of Sophocles feature Oedipus and Antigone: they are generally known as the Theban plays, although each play was actually a part of a different tetralogy, the other members of which are now lost. Sophocles influenced the development of the drama, most importantly by adding a third actor, thereby reducing the importance of the chorus in the presentation of the plot. He also developed his characters to a greater extent than earlier playwrights such as Aeschylus.

Subhash Ghai belongs to a Punjabi Khukhrain family.[citation needed] Born to a dentist father who practised in Delhi, Subhash did his higher secondary in Delhi and thereafter graduated in Commerce from Rohtak, Haryana. Next he moved to Pune, Maharashtra to join the Film and Television Institute of India, Law College Road (FTII). After attaining a diploma, he started working in the Indian film industry in 1970.
He started his career in Hindi cinema as an actor with small roles in six films, like Taqdeer (1967) and Aradhana (1971). He was the male lead in the 1970's Umang, which did not do well at the box office, and Gumraah (1976) with Reena Roy and Danny. His directorial debut was the film Kalicharan (1976) which he obtained through a recommendation by Shatrughan Sinha. Kalicharan was one of the biggest hits of its time. As of 2005, he had written and directed 15 movies out of which 13 were highly successful. In 1982, he started Mukta Arts Private Limited which, in 2000, became a public company, with Subhash Ghai as its chairman and managing director.

Taran Adarsh (born 1965) is an Indian film critic, journalist, editor and film trade analyst. He is also a former producer and screenwriter. He is the son of film director and producer, B.K. Adarsh.
Taran Adarsh started his journalism career at the age of 15 as the editor of Trade Guide, a weekly box-office magazine. In 1994, Adarsh produced and wrote a Bollywood film-based serial Hello Bollywood, starring Shehzad Khan and Kashmira Shah. He continued his work on Trade Guide alongside. Since there was no college for film-related courses in North India, he went to Pune and studied film direction at the Film and Television Institute of India.
Chopra's first student short, Murder At Monkey Hill, won the National Film Award for Best Short Experimental Film and the Guru Dutt Memorial Award for Best Student Film.
This was followed by a short documentary highlighting the plight of India's destitute children, called An Encounter with Faces, which was nominated for an Academy Award in the Documentary Short Subject category in 1979. It also won the Grand Prix at the Tampere Film Festival in 1980.

Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, famously remembered for her roles in 1942: A Love Story and Khamoshi, has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The 42-year-old reportedly fell unconscious, leading to her hospitalisation at Jaslok Hospital. Recently, the actress, who was in Kathmandu redoing her house, had also suffered a bout of food poisoning. According to reports, she was unwell for the last few days and had mentioned it on a social networking platform. After this she fell unconscious and was immediately flown to Mumbai with her mother for further check-ups. When asked about her diagnosis, a reliable source confirmed the news saying, "Manisha has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and is undergoing treatment at Jaslok Hospital. Her family is by her side." Commenting on Manisha's condition, Krishnakant Dasyam, Jaslok Hospital PRO, said, "All these reports are merely speculation. Her check-up is still not complete and her tests are being carried out. She is fine and is undergoing treatment. There has been no diagnosis as such." On being asked what tests had been carried out, he said, "We can't reveal what tests are being conducted as the patient has requested us to maintain confidentiality." Manisha made her debut in 1991 in Saudagar and recently made her comeback in Ram Gopal Varma's Bhoot Returns.

Oke Okkadu movie starring arjun and manisha koirala was directed by the acclaimed director S.Shankar who's movies like Robo(Enthiran) and Sivaji with Rajinikanth in recent years. Music was scored by ARRahman. Oke Okkadu is the story of an unassuming but ambitious TV cameraman, Purushottam (Arjun). Insulted by his questions, the CM dares Purushottam to take up his responsibilities for one day to prove if Purushottam can do a better job. As the CM, Purushottam takes care of almost every aspect in a day's time, giving the slum their rightful apartments and getting jobs for the unemployed, suspending incompetent and corrupt government officers. After his day is done, Purushottam's mass popularity gets him in the cross-hairs of the CM who vows revenge. How Purushottam overthrows the CM and ends his oppression is the crux of the story. Manisha Koirala plays the love interest of Arjun.

TV9 - Manisha Koirala diagnosed with ovarian cancer : "Durantha Nayaki" - Full...! Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, famously remembered for her roles in 1942: A Love Story and Khamoshi, has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The 42-year-old reportedly fell unconscious, leading to her hospitalisation at Jaslok Hospital. Recently, the actress, who was in Kathmandu redoing her house, had also suffered a bout of food poisoning. According to reports, she was unwell for the last few days and had mentioned it on a social networking platform. After this she fell unconscious and was immediately flown to Mumbai with her mother for further check-ups. When asked about her diagnosis, a reliable source confirmed the news saying, "Manisha has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and is undergoing treatment at Jaslok Hospital. Her family is by her side." Commenting on Manisha's condition, Krishnakant Dasyam, Jaslok Hospital PRO, said, "All these reports are merely speculation. Her check-up is still not complete and her tests are being carried out. She is fine and is undergoing treatment. There has been no diagnosis as such." On being asked what tests had been carried out, he said, "We can't reveal what tests are being conducted as the patient has requested us to maintain confidentiality." Manisha made her debut in 1991 in Saudagar and recently made her comeback in Ram Gopal Varma's Bhoot Returns.

Oke Okkadu movie starring arjun and manisha koirala was directed by the acclaimed director S.Shankar who's movies like Robo(Enthiran) and Sivaji with Rajinikanth in recent years. Music was scored by ARRahman. Oke Okkadu is the story of an unassuming but ambitious TV cameraman, Purushottam (Arjun). He gets the chance to interview the Chief Minister (Raghuvaran) about the the plight of their state. Insulted by his questions, the CM dares Purushottam to take up his responsibilities for one day to prove if Purushottam can do a better job. As the CM, Purushottam takes care of almost every aspect in a day's time, giving the slum their rightful apartments and getting jobs for the unemployed, suspending incompetent and corrupt government officers. After his day is done, Purushottam's mass popularity gets him in the cross-hairs of the CM who vows revenge. How Purushottam overthrows the CM and ends his oppression is the crux of the story. Manisha Koirala plays the love interest of Arjun.

Manisha B. Koirala (born August 16, 1970) is a Nepali-Indian[1][2] actress who works in Indian films, as well as a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador and social activist. Koirala has primarily worked in Hindi cinema, though she has appeared in several Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films as well. She is also an accomplished Bharatnatyam and Manipuri dancer. Making her acting debut in the Nepali film Pheri Bhetaula (1989), Koirala made her Bollywood debut with the top-grossing drama Saudagar (1991). She went on to establish herself as one of the leading actresses with such mainstream films as 1942: A Love Story (1994), Agni Sakshi (1996) and Gupt (1997).[3]
Recognised for her acting prowess, Koirala was noted for her performances in films like Bombay (1995), Akele Hum Akele Tum (1995), Khamoshi: The Musical (1996), Dil Se.. (1998) and Company (2002). She has won the Filmfare Critics' Award thrice and has received four nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress so far. Although box-office collections of her films have varied considerably, critics have noted that her niche as an actor remains unharmed irrespective of her commercial potent.[3][4] Off-screen she is frequented in the media as being a "controversy’s child" with her bohemian stance and candid comments often described as "outspoken" and "bold".[5][6][7]

Manisha Koirala was born in Kathmandu, Nepal, into the politically prominent Koirala family to Prakash Koirala and Sushma Koirala. Her grandfather Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala was the Prime Minister of Nepal during the late 1950s-early 1960s, as well as two of her late great-uncles, Girija Prasad Koirala and Matrika Prasad Koirala. She studied at Vasant Kanya Mahavidhyalaya (VKM), Varanasi until Class X. She stayed with her grandmother in Varanasi during her studies. After passing tenth standard she shifted to the Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi (APS).[8] Her ambition was to be a doctor, but a modelling stint opened a career path into Bollywood.[9]
Her brother Siddharth Koirala is also an actor, and collaborated with her once in the film Anwar.[10]
In 2004, she returned from New York after receiving a diploma in filmmaking. She became a member of an independent documentary filmmaker's society.[11]

She starred in a number of unsuccessful films during 1992-1993 until Vidhu Vinod Chopra's love saga 1942: A Love Story (1994) and Mani Ratnam's Tamil drama Bombay (1995) came out.[12][13] Her performance in the latter was particularly appreciated and won her the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance. She was also seen in more commercial films, such as Mansoor Khan's romantic musical Akele Hum Akele Tum (1995) opposite Aamir Khan. Her role of Kiran, an ignored wife who leaves her husband and child in order to fulfill her singing talent and subsequently becomes a popular star, earned her a Filmfare nomination for Best Actress.
Koirala had a particularly successful year in 1996. She received positive reviews for her performance in the drama Agni Sakshi,[14] where she played the role of a battered wife on the run from her mentally ill husband, played by Nana Patekar. The film became one of the biggest hits of that year at the Indian box office.[15] Later that year, she acted in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial debut, Khamoshi: The Musical. The film saw her playing the role of Annie, a caring daughter to deaf parents. Her performance was highly acclaimed,[16] and won her a second consecutive Filmfare Best Performance Award, as well as a Star Screen Award for Best Actress. One critic from Channel 4 wrote, "Koirala... demonstrates the full range of her acting ability, rather than playing against it as she has had to do in more traditional films. The scene where she shouts at her father through the door, screaming and using sign language even though she knows he can neither see nor hear her, is extremely powerful."[17] Filmfare magazine later included her performance in the film on its "80 Iconic Performances" list.[18]

One year later in 1997, she played the leading role alongside Kajol and Bobby Deol in the thriller Gupt: The Hidden Truth. The film became one of the biggest hits of the year.[19] She went on to collaborate once again with Mani Ratnam, and starred in his award-winning film Dil Se.. (1998) opposite Shahrukh Khan. Her role received similarly good reviews, and earned her several award nominations including the Filmfare Best Actress Award nomination. Despite performing poorly at the box office in India, the film proved to be a hit overseas.[20]
Success followed for Koirala, and she went on to act in several critically and commercially successful projects. In 1999, she starred in the moderately successful Kachche Dhaage (1999), which was followed by six more releases, the most notable of them being Indra Kumar's drama Mann. She played the role of a traffic accident victim in the film, which entered into the top five highest grossing films of the year.[21] Her performance in the film won her favorable reviews. Film critic M. Ali Ikram wrote about her performance, "If there is respite for Manisha's innumerable fans of late, this flick is it. We may not care about hits and flops, but it is painful to watch this acting virtuoso in the innumerable side roles she has been seen in of late. Indra Kumar's decision to cast Manisha here, is a case of perfect casting, and she never lets him or the audience down. This lady is truly the Meena Kumari of her generation. It is great fun watching Manisha and Aamir Khan's perfect chemistry opposite one another. The film's climax has both stars permanently molding a spot for themselves in Bollywood history, and it will have you shedding tears by the bucketful."[22]
2000s[link]
In 2000 she hosted the TV show Sawaal Dus Crore Ka on Zee TV alongside Anupam Kher. In 2001, she starred in the drama Grahan opposite Jackie Shroff. Her portrayal of a rape victim in the film who quests for justice was appreciated, but the film, which was a much-delayed project, was a major commercial failure. She next played the main protagonist in Rajkumar Santoshi's drama Lajja along with an ensemble cast that included Rekha, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. The film received a positive reception from critics, and so did Koirala's performance.
In 2002, she starred opposite Ajay Devgan in Ram Gopal Verma's Company. The film was a critical success, as was Koirala's performance in it, and she won her third Filmfare Critics' Best Actress Award. In that same year, she appeared in Ek Chotisi Love Story. The film was released amidst controversy as she accused the director of the film, Shashilal Nair of using her body double to shoot some love scenes in the film and portraying her in bad light by shooting positions using another actress in her place, without her approval to do so. Koirala demanded that Nair re-shoot these scenes because the double's body did not match her physique and required that these scenes be deleted from the film. She later claimed that Nair had stipulated that he would re-shoot the scenes only if she agreed to bear half of the expenses. She said, "I always believed in Shashi. I did this film out of sheer goodwill. I had nothing to gain from it financially as I did the film for free. I also gave him all the dates immediately. It was his first chance to direct a film in four years. He has a family to support and I couldn't bear to see a friend in hardship." Koirala decided to sue Nair and moved the court against him, objecting to the alleged nudity and obscene postures, and pleaded that these scenes be deleted from the film, saying she had not performed in these scenes and that Nair had made use of another actress for them.[23] Finally, the court decided to stay the release of the film.[24]
After years of success, in 2003 she was seen in several low budget films, yet not less challenging roles. She ventured into strong woman-oriented films in 2003, such as Escape From Taliban which won her the BFJA Award for Best Actress. She then played the main protagonist in Market (2003), a film portraying the whole life story of a young prostitute. The film was a decent success at the box office.[25]
After receiving a diploma in filmmaking, she produced the small-budget caper-comedy Paisa Vasool (2004) in which she starred along with Sushmita Sen; this was probably the first ever chick-flick in Indian cinema in that it did not have a male lead nor a love story.
Overall, Koirala starred as the leading role in 6 high-budget, successful Tamil movies: Bombay (1994) co-starring Arvind Swamy, Indian (1996) co-starring Kamal Hassan, Mudhalvan (1999) co-starring Arjun, Aalavandhan (2001) co-starring Kamal Hassan, Baba (2002) co-starring Rajnikanth and Mumbai Express (2005) co-starring Kamal Hassan.
Since then, she has played supporting and leading roles in various unsuccessful films, some of which being well received by critics, such as the historical epic drama Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story (2005), the thriller Tum - A Dangerous Obsession (2005), and the horror film Anjaane - The Unknown (2006).
In Anwar, she played a supporting role along with her brother Siddharth Koirala, her only release in 2007.
In 2008, she made her comeback to films, with her first leading role since Mumbai Express (2005), in Tulsi, opposite Irrfan Khan. Although pre-release her comeback was described by the media as "shocking", and the film suffered from poor marketing,[26] her performance as Tulsi, a young homemaker diagnosed with blood cancer, was well received. Taran Adarsh from indiaFM wrote, "Manisha Koirala sinks her teeth in this role and delivers a fine performance."[27] She next starred in Sirf (2008), a movie about four couples from different strata of life, which portrays the lifestyle of people in metro. The film, which was released without any notice or publicity, was a major critical failure and faced a low box-office opening, with most shows being cancelled out due to its poor critical response.[28] Her first Bengali film Khela directed by Rituparno Ghosh also released the same year along with long delayed Hindi film Mehbooba, both films released on the same day.[29]

In 2010, she made her foray into Malayalam cinema with Shyamaprasad's Elektra, a psycho-sensual drama based on Sophocles's ancient Greek tragic play Electra. She plays the main antagonist in the film which revolves around the concept of Electra Complex that is a daughter's psychosexual competition with her mother for her father's affection.[31] The film premiered at the International Film Festival of India, where it was well received.[32] Later that year, she acted in Partho Ghosh's Ek Second... Jo Zindagi Badal De?. She also acted in her native Nepali-language film Dharmaa after a gap of 22 years since her first film.[33]
In 2011 Koirala appeared in Mappillai, her first Tamil movie in 5 years. A remake of the 1989 film of the same name, the film saw her reprising the role originally played by the late Srividya. She was next seen in director Onir's critically acclaimed anthology film I Am, sharing the screen with Juhi Chawla; noted film critic Taran Adarsh commented, "It's a delight to watch Juhi and Manisha, after a hiatus. Both deliver striking performances - even getting the language right."[34][35][36] Her forthcoming releases include Deepti Naval's directorial debut titled, Do Paise Ki Dhoop, Char Aane Ki Barish and Rohit Kaushik's Badalte Chehere.
In recent development she is re-teaming with director Ram Gopal Verma for his upcoming 3D horror film BHHOOoo.! which is a sequel to 2003 hit Bhoot.[37]

On June 19, 2010, Koirala married Samrat Dahal in a traditional ceremony held in Kathmandu.[38] The couple spent their honeymoon in Finland.[39] They met through the online social networking website, Facebook. She was reportedly engaged in 2001 to Crispin Conroy, the former Australian ambassador to Nepal, but they broke up later. There were also reports of her dating American speaker and author, Christopher Dorris, but that relationship also ended.[38]

In September 1999, Koirala was appointed as a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador.[9] She is actively involved in social work, specifically working with organizations to promote women’s rights, prevention of violence against women, and also to prevent the human trafficking of Nepali girls for prostitution.[9]
