Rhapsody In Blue - Gershwin - Original Piano Roll
A piano roll is the music storage medium used to operate the player piano, pianola or a reproducing piano. The piano roll was the first medium which could be produced and copied industrially and made it possible to provide the customer with actual music fast and easily. A piano roll is a roll of paper with perforations (holes) punched in it. The position and length of the perforation determines the note played on the piano. The roll moves over a device known as the 'tracker bar', which first had 58 holes, was expanded to 65 and then was upgraded to 88 holes (generally, one for each piano key). When a perforation passes over the hole, the note sounds. The first paper rolls were used by Welte & Sons in their Orchestrions since 1883. After hundreds of companies of this booming business produced piano rolls different in size and perforation, in 1909 the American producers of piano rolls and mechanical pianos as well agreed to a standard in the Buffalo Convention.

Tekken 5 - Story Mode (Devil Jin) - Medium
By a users request, I'm recording a playthrough of Story Mode with Devil Jin for the Playstation 2 game, Tekken 5. It's on Medium difficulty, since I don't normally play as Devil Jin and didn't feel like having to use a continue. Enjoy. Note: Devil Jin is NOT one of my good characters. I did this by user request. So don't post that you can do better, unless you want to upload videos of Tekken playthroughs of characters you don't know.

Calling the (live) Time Lady in 1950
This is an excerpt from a recording I found on an old wire spool (pre magnetic tape recording medium). On April 23rd, 1950, a New Jersey man by the name of Fred Weber was setting his wire recorder up to record a phone conversation, and to test the signal he called the local Time Bureau. On the surface this would appear to be a rather mundane recording, but it isn't until you hear the time lady sneeze at 1:43 that you realize - this is a LIVE person reading off the time in 15 second intervals! You can see an image of a live time lady here: en.wikipedia.org If any genius out there wants to make an animation to go along with this, that'd be awesome. I have many hours of amateur wire recordings made by Fred Weber, mostly of him egging on his kids to be obedient and cheerful in front of the microphone. You can hear some excerpts of these recordings in this 3-part episode of my "Lucas & Friends" public access TV show: www.youtube.com www.youtube.com www.youtube.com

Electronic Voice Phenomenon - EVP
Electronic voice phenomena (EVP) are sections of static noise on the radio or electronic recording media that are interpreted by paranormal investigators as voices speaking words usually attributed to ghosts or spirits.Recording EVP has become a technique of those who attempt to contact the souls of dead loved ones or during ghost hunting activities. In addition to deceased spirits, various paranormal investigators say that EVP could be due to psychic echoes from the past, psychokinesis unconsciously produced by living people, and the thoughts of aliens. According to parapsychologist Konstantin Raudive, who popularized the idea, EVP are typically brief, usually the length of a word or short phrase. Skeptics of the paranormal attribute the voice-like aspect of the sounds to apophenia (finding of significance or connections between insignificant or unrelated phenomena), auditory pareidolia (interpreting random sounds into voices in their own language which might otherwise sound like random noise to a foreign speaker), artifacts due to low-quality equipment, and simple hoaxes. Likewise some reported EVP can be attributed to radio interference or other well-documented phenomena. References to EVP have appeared in the reality television shows Paranormal State, Celebrity Paranormal Project, and Ghost Hunters, the fictional television series Supernatural, Medium and Ghost Whisperer and Hollywood films such as White Noise and The Sixth Sense.

Kerry Looks at: Pixelvision 2000 Camcorder
Kerry takes a look at a very innovative video camcorder that was sold during the 1980s: the Fisher-Price Pixelvision 2000 Camcorder! This video camcorder was extremely unusual in that it shoots black & white video on audio cassettes! The Fisher-Price PXL2000 (also known as the PixelVision by Fisher-Price, and the KiddieCorder by some of its fans) is a toy black-and-white camcorder produced in 1987 that uses a compact audio cassette as its recording medium. The original designer at Fisher-Price was Andrew Bergman. An ordinary cassette transport is used for storage of both audio and video. The PXL2000 holds 11 minutes of shooting by moving the tape at a high speed, roughly 16 7/8 in/s (429 mm/s) as opposed to cassette's standard speed of 1 7/8 in/s (48 mm/s) on a C90 CrO2 (chromium dioxide) cassette. The high speed is necessary because video requires a wider bandwidth than standard audio recording. The PXL2000 records the video information on the left audio channel of the cassette, and the audio on the right. In order to reduce the amount of information recorded to fit within the narrow bandwidth of the sped-up audio cassette, it uses an ASIC to generate slower video timings than conventional TVs use. It scanns the 90 by 120 pixel CCD fifteen times a second, feeding the results through a filtering network, and then to both a frequency modulation circuit driving the left channel of the cassette head and to an ADC, which fed the framestore. The old tapes I used in the ...

Floor 47 Medium solo in 20 minutes! (Skeletal Trio Boss)
As the title says, this is me soloing Dungeoneering, at floor 47 (The highest at the time of recording), in just over 20 minutes, with a Skeletal Trio boss at the end. I sped the video up to be twice as fast, as otherwise it wouldn't have fit onto YouTube. I used a Primal Battleaxe, Shadow Silk Hood, and my Ring of Kinship was on tank-class. I solo all my Occult floors like this, and occasionally the second set of Abandoned too. The rest of my floors are rushed at Complexity-1, though it's open to debate how early in your Prestige run you should start Mediums. I could probably have done this even faster, if it wasn't for the lag that recording gives me, as well as a few dumb mistakes I make in this video. Music used, in order, was: Here I Go Again - Whitesnake Silverwing - Arch Enemy Skeletal Trio - (I got this track by simply recording sound at the same time as RuneScape while the music track was playing, and then ripping the sound off that video. I don't know the name of the person who composed it, whoever you are, credits to you!) Enjoy!

1/4 What The Universe Tells Me (GREAT Documentary on Mahler's 3rd Symphony)
This is one of the best documentaries I've seen about any piece of music or composer. Amazon's official review reads: "What the Universe Tells Me is probably the deepest, most painstakingly detailed but also approachable attempt to decipher the inner dynamics of a complex work of art ever entrusted to any recording medium". Bold statement, but I certainly agree with it. I'm not trying to rip anyone by posting this. On the contrary, I try to promote this work and I really encourage anyone to buy this DVD. With the DVD you'll also get an hour long extras on various subjects ("The artist as a prophet" concept, the premiere, Mahler's relationship with the public, Schopenhauer and Nietzsche, The Youth's Magic Horn songs) and the full performance of the 3rd that is featured in the documentary. By the way, the same director (Jason Starr) is preparing a similar documentary about Mahler's 2nd symphony, called "The resurrection of Gustav Mahler"

Any stuttering you see in the video is due to poor recording medium. The result is better than I expected on my cheap DSO. YouScope is a Demo that is designed for vector displays.
