Frank Vincent Zappa (December 21, 1940 – December 4, 1993) was an American musician, songwriter, composer, record producer, actor and filmmaker. In a career spanning more than 30 years, Zappa composed rock n' roll, jazz, jazz fusion, orchestral and musique concrète works, and produced almost all of the more than sixty albums he released with his band the Mothers of Invention and as a solo artist. He also directed feature-length films and music videos, and designed album covers.
Zappa was a self-taught composer and performer, and his diverse musical influences led him to create music that was often difficult to categorize. While in his teens, he acquired a taste for 20th-century classical composers such as Edgard Varèse, Igor Stravinsky, and Anton Webern, along with 1950s rhythm and blues music. He began writing classical music in high school, while at the same time playing drums in rhythm and blues bands; later switching to electric guitar. His 1966 debut album with the Mothers of Invention, Freak Out!, combined songs in conventional rock and roll format with collective improvisations and studio-generated sound collages. He continued this eclectic and experimental approach, irrespective of whether the fundamental format was rock, jazz or classical.

Frank Zappa's 1974 album Roxy & Elsewhere captured for posterity one of the most musically accomplished incarnations of The Mothers (George Duke, keyboards; Tom Fowler, bass; Ruth Underwood, percussion; Bruce Fowler, trombone; Walt Fowler, trumpet; Napoleon Murphy Brock, tenor sax, vocals; and Chester Thompson and Ralph Humphrey on drums) onstage and on fire. Roxy & Elsewhere was recorded primarily over three nights (December 8,9,10, 1973) live at The Roxy nightclub in the heart of the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood. The Roxy is a pretty intimate club—a performer onstage there could practically make eye-contact with every member of the audience—and the musicianship during these sets was particularly inspired. http://frankzapppa.blogspot.com/ http://youtu.be/V2a0ux53dKY

Muffin Man is a song recorded live by Frank Zappa and The Mothers. It appears on his 1975 mostly live album Bongo Fury made with Captain Beefheart (Don Van Vliet). The song begins with studio-recorded spoken word lyrics delivered by Zappa and is followed by the chorus. The song was inspired by the traditional nursery rhyme, The Muffin Man. The song closes the album, as well as the compilation Strictly Commercial, and was also used as a finale in concerts for many years afterwards. The song's tone was compared to Jimi Hendrix's style. An alternative live version of "Muffin Man" appears on disc one (track 22) of the compilation You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol. 6. This song also appears on the 2009 album released by the Zappa Family Trust Philly '76, the 2002 album FZ:OZ and the 2003 ...

Segments taken from Roelof Kiers fantastic documentary filmed for the VPRO in Holland. Live footage is from a show at The Fillmore West in San Francisco, CA on November 6th, 1970. Great lineup here featuring Flo & Eddie as well as the incredible drummer Aynsley Dunbar--who lost Jimi Hendrix's coin toss to Mitch Mitchell in 1966 when he couldn't decide between the two drummers. Also featuring George Duke, Ian Underwood & Jeff Simmons. Quality is decent, recorded from a TV broadcast.Unsettling that these interview segments were shot over 45 years ago.

This band is unmatched among Frank Zappa's various ensembles: original, complex and hilarious, enriched by Zappa's crystal-clear, stunningly beautiful solo guitar. You'll have to see it with your own eyes to believe how much fun they have on stage and to appreciate the musical quality of this band. In retrospect, Zappa anticipated many ingredients that have become commonplace in modern advertising spots and video clips, including fast cuts, animations and alienation effects. While Zappa's technical equipment was state-of-the-art in the 1970s, his music remains appealingly rough around the edges. Back in 1993 this doc was shown on BBC2 about three times and never since. The interview with Frank Zappa was one of his last and I first saw it in early '93 when I taped it on VHS. In those days TV was not the horrible medium it is today, there were some decent Arts programmes and not Kirsty Wark showing how ignorant she is by hosting a cretinous book club or the X Factor. Hope you like this clip. I had to wind & rewind the tape about 15 times before it would play without a shower of static all over the screen, not bad for an 18 year old tape. VHS players never had an auto-function to counter tracking issues and a deterioration in the RF that you can see at the bottom of the frame, aside from re-tracking as best as possible. The Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) was an American committee formed in 1985 with the stated goal of increasing parental control over the access of children to music deemed to be violent, have drug use or be sexual via labeling and censorship. The committee was founded by four women: Tipper Gore, wife of Senator and later Vice President Al Gore; Susan Baker, wife of Treasury Secretary James Baker; Pam Howar, wife of Washington realtor Raymond Howar; and Sally Nevius, wife of former Washington City Council Chairman John Nevius. They were known as the "Washington wives" -- a reference to their husbands' connections with government in the Washington, D.C. area. In August 1985, 19 record companies agreed to put "Parental Guidance: Explicit Lyrics" labels on albums to warn of explicit lyri...

A two and half hour collection, of Frank Zappa interviews. For years I've been into franks music, and of course all his great views on society. It's a shame he had to leave us at the age of 52. I think the world should benefit from his wisdom, and incredible sense of humor! When you look at the world situation as it is at the moment, I'm really happy for the success, this video have had so far, and it leads me to think that, there's still hope. I'm planning on doing some more videos on frank, and will get to it as soon as possible. If you're new to frank, I hope you'll be able to see the world from a deferent view, and hopefully apply some of it, to your own life. On behalf of frank, I'd like to say thank you for watching. __________________________________ Sorry for typos, I'm a lit...

Zappa again interviewed by the Finnish national tv. He is answering in his brilliant style.
"I don‘t think that there‘s a girl around that would fit in with what we do" - Frank Zappa on June 6, 1971, as told to Howard Smith. Frank Zappa had a few opinions. Surly? Matter-of-fact? Misunderstood? We'll let you decide as we present this rarely heard interview with Zappa recorded in his hotel room. Zappa has a few things to say about women's lib ("a fad"), on LA vs "depressing" New York, why America is a nation of people being told what to do, and why women couldn't hack it in his band. Sit back and enjoy. So much good stuff in the full interview, which you can hear at http://thesmithtapes.com. One of the last Interviews Frank gave before his death. This has been edited to my best ability for colors and such, an attempt to recover nearly 18 years ago from VHS tape. I discovered Frank's the career, music, film and other forms of entertainment via a friend in high school about 1971-72. I began collecting the albums, hiding the words from censorship from my mother, and in 1973 or so, went to the theater to see 200 Motels. Wow. My first concert was 11-15-1974 in Buffalo NY to see Frank, my last was 03-21-1988 in Syracuse NY. 22 times in total for me. I can not watch this, or listen to Watermelon in Easter Hay without forming tears. You are missed Frank. "The silence of his voice is deafening!"
Frank Zappa's epic response to the tyrannical, repressed, uptight, angry little man that is John Lofton. For some reason CNN bleeped out "ass." I guess they had different standards back then. For the full debate, click the link below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ISil7IHzxc
disabled comments so Zappa can actually speak for himself - shut up, all of you A MESSAGE TO INFOWARS: I would just like to say that it is appalling that Infowars (Paul Joseph Watson, specifically) used a clip from this video in some of their recent propaganda. Of course, I obviously do not approve of this usage, and I am guessing neither would Zappa. This video does not exist to advance your agenda. This video does not exist to spread hate and racism. It exists to document Zappa's displeasure with the direction of the industry, and nothing more. I almost regret uploading it because it has been hijacked by people who use it to spew the fallacy of 'all music is terrible now' (something that has been said in every generation, and it is never true). Granted, I had this mindset at one point. ...

Entre as faixas afetadas, estão: Who Needs the Peace Corps?: a fala "I will love the police as they kick the shit out of me" ("Eu vou amar a polícia enquanto eles me chutam") foi cortada na versão altamente censurada. Concentration Moon: O sussuro de Gary Kellgren dizendo que The Mothers of Invention e The Velvet Underground são uma merda foi cortado. Existem três versões...
