Bach, Toccata and Fugue in D minor, organ
Bach's most famous organ piece, with a bar-graph score. FAQ Q: Where can I get free sheet music for this piece? A: Sheet music for this can be found here: tinyurl.com Q: Who wrote Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor? Q: Isn't that like asking who's buried in Grant's Tomb? A: Heh-heh. A theory has recently (1981) been put forth that JS Bach did not write this piece. A brief summary of the supporting evidence for this theory can be read here: en.wikipedia.org Q: Where can I get the mp3 of this? A: You can download it here: www.musanim.com Q: What does the piece look like as a whole? A: There are versions you can print out here www.musanim.com The 'scroll' version is for cutting out and taping together to form a long strip. Q: Where can I get the MIDI file that this was made from? A: I'm not sure it's exactly the same, but the closest I could find was this: www.musanim.com Q: How did you make this video? A: You can read about it here: www.musanim.com Q: What is the BWV number for this? A: BWV 565 Q: Where does the toccata end and the fugue begin? A: The fugue starts at 2:51 and the toccata returns at 7:12, but between these two points, parts which are strictly fugal alternate with episodes that are more toccata-like, so it's not 100% clear-cut (like in some other toccata/fugue pairs he wrote). Q: What do the colors mean? A: Each "stop" on the organ was played on a separate MIDI channel, and each MIDI channel was assigned a color. Q: What is a fugue? A: Here is a good ...

Bach - Double Violin Concerto in D minor 2nd movement, Largo
Title : Johann Sebastian Bach, Double Violin Concerto in D minor (2nd movement, Largo Ma Non Tanto (BWV 1043) From Wikipedia , The Concerto for Two Violins in D minor (BWV 1043) is perhaps one of the most famous works by JS Bach and considered among the best examples of the work of the late Baroque period. Bach wrote it in Leipzig sometime between 1730 and 1731, most likely for the Leipzig Collegium Musicum, of which he was the director. It also exists in an arrangement for two harpsichords, transposed into C minor (BWV 1062). In addition to the two soloists, the concerto is scored for strings and basso continuo. The concerto is characterized by the subtle yet expressive relationship between the violins throughout the work. The musical structure of this piece uses fugal imitation and much counterpoint. The concerto comprises three movements: Vivace Largo ma non tanto Allegro

Bach - The Art of Fugue, BWV 1080 [complete on Organ]
The Art of Fugue or The Art of the Fugue (original German: Die Kunst der Fuge), BWV 1080, is an incomplete masterpiece by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685--1750). The work was most likely started at the beginning of the 1740s, if not earlier. The first known surviving version, which contained 12 fugues and 2 canons, was copied by the composer in 1745. This manuscript has a slightly different title, added afterwards by his son-in-law Johann Christoph Altnickol: Die Kunst der Fuga. Bach's second version was published in 1751 after his death. It contains 14 fugues and 4 canons. "The governing idea of the work", as the eminent Bach specialist Christoph Wolff put it, is "an exploration in depth of the contrapuntal possibilities inherent in a single musical subject." Johann Sebastian Bach - Brandenburg Concertos, BWV 1046, 1047, 1048, 1049, 1050 and 1051 (complete)
Notice: This video is only for cultural purposes. About Brandenburg Concertos The Brandenburg concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach (BWV 1046--1051, original title: Six Concerts à plusieurs instruments) are a collection of six instrumental works presented by Bach to Christian Ludwig, margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt, in 1721 (though probably composed earlier). They are widely regarded as among the finest musical compositions of the Baroque era. Bach's dedication to the Margrave was dated 24 March 1721. Most likely, Bach composed the concertos over several years while Kapellmeister at Köthen, and possibly extending back to his employment at Weimar (1708--17). The first sentence of Bach's dedication reads: As I had the good fortune a few years ago to be heard by Your Royal Highness, at Your Highness's commands, and as I noticed then that Your Highness took some pleasure in the little talents which Heaven has given me for Music, and as in taking Leave of Your Royal Highness, Your Highness deigned to honour me with the command to send Your Highness some pieces of my Composition: I have in accordance with Your Highness's most gracious orders taken the liberty of rendering my most humble duty to Your Royal Highness with the present Concertos, which I have adapted to several instruments; begging Your Highness most humbly not to judge their imperfection with the rigor of that discriminating and sensitive taste, which everyone knows Him to have for musical works, but rather to take ...

The Cello Song is based on one of the most recognizable classical pieces ever written, JS Bach's Unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 1: Prelude. (Hint: Say Bach's title with an English accent and it sounds a lot better). It's been featured in a lot of movies (and car commercials)...Steven Sharp Nelson decided that this piece needed some accompaniment (Bach must have been busy and never got around to it? :) Adding some original material and 7 more cello parts stacked on top of each other, Steve has created a cool new sound that embellishes all the features that have made Bach's work so popular. The 7 new parts include drawn-out melodies which soar above fast arpeggios, strumming chords from a guitar-like part, shaker sounds (accomplished by rubbing the sides of the cello), tremolo (1:08-1:24), and a cello-banging percussion part (complete with kick drum). "Bach was an amazing composer -- one of the best that ever lived. He wasn't the greatest with titles though (smile ...

PDQ Bach (Peter Schickele) - "New horizons in music appreciation" (Beethoven)
This new upload is something unusual but nonetheless interesting. The selection concerns a performance of the very familiar Symphony No. 5 by Ludwig van Beethoven ... as if it were a sporting event complete with a cheering audience, a referee and two commentators (Robert Dennis and Peter Schickele, the man behind the whole thing). Though the whole thing is outrageously funny, the joke only helps highlight the sheer power of Beethoven's masterwork and, at the same time, makes one think of the extreme value we attach to music. Enjoy :)! PS This except appears on the album "PDQ Bach on the Air" which features several other striking musical parodies.
