Then the mercenary and acquaintance of Django, Gen. Hugo Rodriguez arrives in town, and Django proposes a bold plan to steal the gold from Jackson and split between them. The Ballad of Cripple Kane
Nominated for Best Animation of 2009 for Newgrounds! And now available lagg-free as a video on Youtube. Because of the vcam, tweening, and gigantic amount of sloppy layers, this animation always chugged in an swf player. I've neer even seen it run smoothly myself... until now! Special thanks to Mindchamber for putting the video through after effects and giving it a nice old-film look. link to original: www.newgrounds.com PS Dear Youtube, I am not making any money off this video. This is purely made out of the love for the Western genre. Please let this stand. -Hans Van Harken

"The Wire", Best Opening, Omar & Brother Mouzone Standoff
Clip from The Wire: Omar / Brother Mouzone Standoff (Season 3, Ep11) One of the best scenes from THE WIRE: Its the opening of "Middle Ground", the pentultimate episode of Season 3. Cracker-jack, classic scene with Omar confronting Brother Mouzone. The dialog is electric, and the director's stylistic references to the "Western" genre is unmistakable, ironic, and certainly not an accident. Just like Omar's wearing of the classic cowboy "duster" is not an accident. Creators Simon and Burns envisioned his character as a character out of the Western genre: A gunslinger with principals. This riveting scene (a typical Wire 'cold open') is here intact with the opening credits for the full experience (Season 3 had the Neville Brothers version of Tom Wait's 'Down in the Hole'). (Tidbit: any James Bond fan will recognize the Walther PPK as Bond's gun too) If you haven't seen The Wire (televisions best series, ever) your life is incomplete goo.gl All rights belong to original owners.

Zachariah (1 of 10 )
Zachariah (1971) Gunfights and electric guitars in the Old West? You bet! Zachariah gets a mail order gun, practices a little, and kills a man in the local saloon. He and his friend Matthew set out to become gunfighters, joining with the Crackers, a rock band who are also (pitifully inept) stage robbers. Having quickly outgrown that gang, Zachariah and Matthew set out to become bigtime gunslingers. Before long, they part company and a rivalry grows between them. The film is loosely based on Herman Hesse's novel Siddhartha, surrealistically adapted as a musical Western by Joe Massot and the members of the comedy troupe The Firesign Theatre. This film is defined as being part of the Acid Western genre. More precisely, in its own publicity releases, it was called, "This film is defined as being part of the Acid Western genre. More precisely, in its own publicity releases, it was called, "The first electric western." This was, in no small part, due to the fact that this film featured several appearances and music supplied by successful rock bands from the era, including the James Gang and Country Joe and the Fish. Fiddler Doug Kershaw has a musical cameo that advances the plot of the film. The movie also features a former John Coltrane sideman as Elvin Jones plays a part as a gunslinging drummer named "Job Cain." Cast Includes : John Rubinstein ... Zachariah Patricia Quinn... How The West Was Lost (BBC Documentary)
Comedian Rich Hall goes west to find out what killed off that most quintessentially American of all film genres, the western. Through films such as The Searchers, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence, Little Big Man, The Wild Bunch and Unforgiven, Rich charts the rise and fall of America's obsession with its own creation myth - the Wild West. He explores how the image of the cowboy as a moral, straight-talking heroic figure was created by Hollywood but appropriated by Washington, as one president after another sought to associate themselves with this potent symbol of strength and valour. From Tombstone to Texas, Montana to Wyoming, Rich travels across a landscape that is both actual and mythic in the minds of not just Americans, but all of us. With his customary wit and intelligence he unpicks the truth from the fiction of Hollywood's version of frontier life, draws parallels between popular western narratives and America's more questionable foreign policy, and celebrates the real heroes of the west - John Ford, John Wayne, Sam Peckinpah, Arthur Penn and Clint Eastwood. Filmed on location in Arizona, Montana and Wyoming and incorporating interviews and archive clips of some of the best-loved westerns of all-time, the film is Rich Hall's personal salute to a genre of film he feels passionate about.

ABILENE TOWN (1946) Randolph Scott Western
In the years following the Civil War, Kansas is in the middle of a difficult time. Homesteaders are moving into the west, trying to start new lives, and are going head to head against cattlemen who have been settled in that territory for years. In Abilene, one of the biggest cattle towns of the west, the town is on the brink of a confrontation between the cattlemen and the homesteaders. Marshall Dan Mitchell (Randolph Scott), who is the law in Abilene, has the job of keeping the peace between the two groups. For a long time, the town had been divided, with the cattlemen and cowboys having one end of town to themselves, while townspeople occupied the other end. Mitchell liked it this way, it made things easier for him, and kept problems from arising between the two factions. However, when homesteaders decide to lay stakes in the cowboys end of town, that balance is upset, and leads to a deadly showdown.
