Rafael Mendez - Flight of the Bumble Bee & Mexican Hat Dance
In the third installment of the Rafael Mendez special entitled "The Trumpet," Mendez discusses his amazing finger dexterity and breath control, and then to illustrate these concepts he plays Flight of the Bumble Bee (with a super close-up on his fingers) and an excerpt from The Mexican Hat Dance (played entirely in one breath). Mendez is a tour de force on the trumpet. Anyone who is interested in trumpets and trumpet playing should not miss this video.

How to Form a Trumpet Embouchure - Trumpet Tips & Tricks with Charlie Porter
NYC Trumpeter, Charlie Porter, demonstrates the way to form a trumpet embouchure. Topics covered are aperture, mouthpiece placement, air direction and lip buzzing. Charlie is available for Online Trumpet Lessons via Skype or in person if you are in the NYC area. Please visit: www.charlieportermusic.com Notes RE: video: While some players may have great success with playing in the red of the lips, blowing air downward or playing with closed lip positions, I believe that the advice I have given is sound and reliable. RE: Playing in the red of the lips (rim placement): Yes you can play in the red of the lip. I did it for years. However, it is fact, that the tissue is much softer and more prone to damage and only a few people who play on the red learn to do so without the added pressure that can cause damage. There is a reason that teachers like Armando Ghitalla changed each one of his students embouchure at the college level to have the lips placed inside the mpc. I'm not saying that I would do this for every student, but having thick fleshy lips myself, and having seen people with lips twice my size doing it, I know very well that it is possible. It is a personal journey for everyone, but we are all capable of it. That being said, if you have super chops galore and play in the red of your lip, then you really don't need to watch this video do you? If you can't fit them in, I'd be happy to show you how I managed it. RE: Blowing air straight ahead vs. downward (lip alignment ...

ALISON BALSOM - Sound the Trumpet (Royal Music of Purcell & Handel)
NEW ALBUM AVAILABLE HERE: links.emi.com ... In the year of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee, Alison Balsom celebrates the heroic era of the Baroque trumpet in works by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) and Henry Purcell (1658 or 1659-1695), whose anthems, odes, sinfonias and operas have provided the music for numerous royal celebrations from their own day to the present. Joining forces with Trevor Pinnock, harpsichordist, conductor and pioneer of historical performance, and with the English Concert orchestra that he founded, Balsom demonstrates the versatility and expressive power of her valve-less instrument in original works and new arrangements. These include Purcell's Sound the trumpet and Handel's Eternal Source of light divine in duet with countertenor Iestyn Davies and Purcell's The Plaint from The Fairy Queen in duet with soprano Lucy Crowe. Further repertoire includes suites from Purcell's semi-operas King Arthur (1691) and The Fairy Queen (1692) in new arrangements by Balsom and Pinnock, Handel's Water Piece in D Major HWV 341 and his Oboe Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Major HWV 301 transposed into C Major. Alison Balsom is one of today's most popular classical musicians. Having managed to break through to the mainstream without abandoning her musical integrity, she continues to draw ever-wider audiences for her performances and recordings of diverse repertoire.

Chris Botti (trumpet) "Lisa"
Christopher Stephen Botti or Chris Botti [BOH-tee] (born October 12, 1962) is an American trumpeter and composer. Born in Portland, Oregon and raised in Corvallis, Oregon, he spent two years of his childhood growing up in Italy. His earliest musical influence was his mother, a classically trained pianist and part-time piano teacher. He plays a Martin Committee Handcraft trumpet made in 1940, and uses a 3 silver plated mouthpiece from Bach made in 1926, having recently retired his 1920 3C Bach mouthpiece. He counts Miles Davis among his most significant influences. Botti attended Mount Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon where he studied under Larry McVey whose renowned jazz program had come to be a regular stop for Stan Kenton and Mel Tormé when they were looking for new players. It was here he played alongside his friend, trombonist and future Academy Award nominated filmmaker, Todd Field. After leaving Mount Hood, Botti studied under David Baker and Bill Adam at Indiana University.
