Dattaji Shinde's Martyrdom (The Great Maratha Serial)
A small clip from Sanjay Khan's The Great Maratha teleserial. The series was telecasted sometime in 1993-94 and mainly dealt with the exploits of the great maratha general Mahadji Shinde ( also know as Mahadji Scindhia). Mahadji was instrumental in regaining the maratha prestige in the North India after disastrous Indian defeat in Third Battle of Panipat (1761). Mahadji's shrewd nature also helped him keep the rising british power at bay for more than two decades. Here we see the glorious martyrdom of Mahadji's elder brother, Dattaji Shinde, while defending Delhi from Afghan invaders in Jan 1760. His legacy is well preserved in his last words. His fearless and warrior attitude is seen in this scene, where he proudly says "yes, if survive, I shall continue to fight" ...to enemy about to kill him. Watch the entire series here : youtu.be

Music: Prince of Persia 4 Marcel Khalife , Arabian Concerto #1 Rajput War Cry Historical Briefing: After the death of Madhavrao Peshwa in 1772, his brother Narayanrao became Peshwa of the Maratha Empire. However, Raghunathrao, Narayanrao's uncle, had his nephew assassinated in a palace conspiracy that resulted in Raghunathrao becoming Peshwa, although he was not the legal heir. Narayanrao's widow, Gangabai, gave birth to a posthumous son, who was legal heir to the throne. The newborn infant was named 'Sawai' Madhavrao (Sawai means One and a Quarter). Twelve Maratha chiefs, led by Nana Phadnis directed an effort to name the infant as the new Peshwa and rule under him as regents. Raghunathrao, unwilling to give up his position of power, sought help from the British at Bombay and signed the Treaty of Surat on 6 March 1775. According to the treaty, Raghunathrao ceded the territories of Salsette and Bassein to the British, along with part of the revenues from Surat and Bharuch districts. In return, the British promised to provide Raghunathrao with 2500 soldiers. The British Calcutta Council condemned the Treaty of Surat, sending Colonel Upton ...
