Microglia processes turning to injury
Microglia processes turning to injury
This is from Davalos et. al, (2005) Nature Neuroscience 8, 752 - 758. • Parenchymal microglia are the principal immune cells of the brain. Time-lapse imaging of GFP-labeled microglia demonstrates that the fine termini of microglial processes are highly dynamic in the intact mouse cortex. Upon local brain injury (caused by a laser), microglial processes rapidly and autonomously converge on the site of injury without cell body movement, establishing a potential barrier between the healthy and injured tissue.- published: 26 Sep 2013

The microglia soma is eventually pulled into the phagocytic extension along the thin connecting process.- published: 22 Jan 2014
