These matched ring centres are very safe to use if you are a newcomer to woodturning. This is due to the fact that if you experience a dig in, the work piece will stop rotating but the drive centre can continue to rotate. The drive centre works by friction so the amount of compression on the work can be adjusted to suit your needs. Axminster Box Comb Jig
This is an easy to use jig for use on a router table to produce accurate box comb joints. Well made and safe in use the Axminster Box Comb Jig will produce box comb joints in 6mm, 10mm & 12mm segments with its included 3 comb plates and matching cutters. Consisting of a sturdy "traveller" made in 3 parts that carries the work over the router cutter with an integral handle, and using a rigid alloy table insert with slide mounts to guide the "traveller" accurately to produce a perfect joint. Ideal for drawers where the striking symmetry of the joint will be a highlight of the work, especially where a contrasting wood is used for the drawer base. Able to cope with asymmetric components, ie a drawer with a front that is thicker than the other components to enable a handle to be inset or allow a moulding decoration. A box comb joint is exceptionally strong due to the enormous amount of glue surface area, and so will withstand quite heavy loads. Supplied either as a kit with the alloy table insert (measuring 306 x 229mm). Axminster AWSBS2 Bandsaw The Axminster AWSBS2 two speed bandsaw comes complete with floor standing cabinet, enhanced rip fence and mitre fence. Fabricated from sheet steel with cast iron table and alloy wheels, the bandsaw has several features usually only found on bigger machines. The stiffness of the steel fabrication allows the blade tension to be much higher than most bandsaws of this size which helps to reduce blade vibration. The blade is well supported with ball bearing guides both above and below the table. Unusually in a bandsaw of this size the back edge of the blade runs on the face of the rear thrust bearings rather than the side. The cast iron table has a groove in which the mitre fence slides and is fitted with a rigidly clamped extruded aluminium rip fence. Both doors are fitted with micro switches so that if someone was tempted to open a door whilst the machine is in use then the motor will cut out. www.axminster.co.uk

Axminster Dual Window System
The Axminster Window System is a custom designed set of tooling manufactured exclusively for Axminster by OMAS Spa. of Italy. It is aimed specifically at the small/mid range joinery shop, with an adequate spindle moulder and with an X-feed/tenoning capability, to enable window production to be fast, economical and profitable. A survey of the current styles offered by the mass joinery producers and discussion with various joiners concerning their customers' requirements, led us to design a system that can produce flush or stormproof windows, with a clean, modern looking bevelled frame and either bevel or ovolo patterned sashes/casements. Traditional hinges, fasteners and stays, multi-point espagnolette locking, friction stays, etc., can all be catered for within the flexibility of the system. Rainhoods and extended ledges are added as extensions to the frame, or can be ignored when the requirement is for a replacement window to fit into an existing reveal already complete with cill and rain canopy. The tooling, as designed, uses the concept of system zero, ie the spindle is set to a specific height and locked. The tool groups, when mounted, are automatically at their correct operating height. However, this does not preclude the separation of the tool groups (they can easily be re-assembled) and the use of the individual tools for other tasks, (within their dimensional capabilities) eg the 'speed build' open mortice group, when reversed, can be used as a useful tenoning set ...

A trade rated planer thicknesser with ground cast iron planing and thicknessing tables and an cast iron tilting fence. Being made of cast iron this is a very heavy machine and is an excellent choice for either the trade professional or the discerning home user. The combination of a three knife cutter block and the vibration-reducing mass of the machine results in a very clean finish to the work. The dust extraction hood is positioned underneath the table for surfacing and on top of the table, with both of the tables tilted out of the way, for thicknessing. The three knife cutter block is set using the gauge supplied, ensuring that each knife is set exactly to the block. For optimum setting both tables are fully adjustable and electrically interlocked to avoid accidental starting without the cutter guard in place. Two other features of note: 1. There are on/off switches on both ends of the machine, one for planing and one for thicknessing. 2. The cast iron fence can be positioned on either side of the table for left hand or right hand operation.

Windsor Chair Making at the Axminster Skill Centre
The Axminster Skill Centre, for some years, has been keen to offer a Windsor chair making course and now that it has moved to larger and better equipped premises, it can offer this very course. To launch the course, well known artist craftsman, demonstrator and international lecturer, Stuart King (not forgetting he was also winner of the 2009 Strictly Woodturning competition) tutored an introductory course to some of Axminster Tool Centre's most skilled woodworkers including Ian Styles, Jason Breach, Colwin Way, Trevor Yates and Tim Styles. The intensive five-day course is designed to equip the student with the relevant introductory skills for making this traditional English chair. Each student will make their own chair from seasoned materials and thus reduce the problems of wood warping once it is taken home to a heated environment. Throughout the five days, the student will cover a whole range of woodworking skills from wood selection, shaping and turning of the legs to cutting and shaping the seat, and setting up and steam bending the bows. All of these components are assembled together into a classic finished Windsor chair. Both modern and traditional tool techniques will also be used, ranging from traditional tool shaping adzes and spoke shaves through to modern power tools such as Arbortech.
