Treasure Island (1950)
Treasure Island is a 1950 Disney adventure film, adapted from the Robert Louis Stevenson's novel Treasure Island. It starred Bobby Driscoll as Jim Hawkins, and Robert Newton as Long John Silver. It was Disney's first completely live-action film and the first screen version of Treasure Island made in color. I now have tghe first 15 minutes of the 1954 (Australian made) follow up tot his film; 'Long John Silver.' Unfortunately as I've lost the facility to post videos of upto 2 hours, I've only posted the first 15 minutes of this film.

Chantey tune in TREASURE ISLAND (1950)
The melody to "Johnny Come Down to Hilo" is used as instrumental backing music in the film. In the first scene, the melody is developed by other orchestral instruments, as if it were more of a dance or march theme than a chantey. In the second scene, we are led to imagine that English sailors in 1765 gamboled to the piping of a recorder/whistle playing a song with a rather distinctly 19th century African-American or American minstrel style. The style of the tune here, with characteristic fermatas over certain notes, was popularized starting in the 1920s.

In 1950's "Treasure Island," Robert Newton was the first movie pirate to "Talk Like a Pirate," as we traditionally think of them today. In particular, it was he who added the now-classic "arr" (not "argh"!) to pirate argot. In honor of International Talk Like a Pirate Day, here is a scene from the 1954 Australian-made sequel to the film, also starring Robert Newton (who starred in the subsequent Aussie TV series of the same name as well as 1952's "Blackbeard the Pirate"). Viewin' any o' these cinematic treasures be the perfect way t' have ye talkin' like a proper pirate in no time! ("Long John Silver" is copyrighted to the estate of Robert Newton and used in a most unpiratelike manner by permission.)

Humphrey Lyttelton and his Band 1950 On Treasure Island: recorded on November 22 1950 and issued on Parlophone R3363 Released February 1951 and rereleased many times thereafter. Composed by Joe Burke 1935. I have enjoyed this since I heard it first in the summer of 1952: we were summer camping on the North Downs near Canterbury (Kent) and the Publican - whose field we camped in and who provided facilities in exchange for consumption of adequate supplies of beer and anything else we could afford :-) - he played it all the time on his record player together with DJC Blues which was actually the A side and Treasure Island was on the flip side or the B side. Mani Nasry an exceptionally talented filmmaker, actor and artist with a sophisticated breadth of education, skills, experience, and professional accomplishments. He trained as an actor and director in New York with Salem Ludwig and with Donna DeMatteo for playwriting. For Mani, the decision to work in the film industry guided his academic decisions from an early age. He attended a Toronto high school renowned for excellence in the arts, and was accepted into one of the highly competitive film program at Ryerson university. It is notable that he went to Ryerson with an already well-established career in theatre, film, television and commercial work, and a range of multi-faceted achievements including producing, cinematography, casting, writing, directing, acting, and editing. On his own he added stints in New York and Los Angeles with leading acting teachers, as well as learning the grace and style of many forms of dance and athletics. With courses perceptively, he has also recognized the importance of acquiring an understanding of the business side of the industry, and the varied aspects of technology and production. There are some people clearly born to follow the path they have chosen from the start. Mani Nasry has the passion to succeed, the curiosity and ingenuity required to lead and collaborate in an industry known for its impact and appeal, and the strength of character and work ethic to immerse himself in finding and telling an unforgettable story.
