At least 38 workers died and more than 70 were injured when a series of powerful explosions ripped through a large unit in Sivakasi, the capital of the fireworks industry on Wednesday. Officials quoted doctors here as saying that 35 bodies had been recovered from the site of the blasts at Om Shakthi Fireworks Ltd. Four workers died in hospitals in Madurai, 85km away. Sivakasi (Tamil Nadu), Sept 5 (Newztime): A major fire broke out at Om Shakti Fireworks, a fireworks factory at Sivakasi, in Virudanagar district some 500 km from Chennai on Wednesday, killing at least 57 and injuring over 30 people. Rescue operations are on at the site and a number of fire tenders have been pressed into service.The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Sivakasi fire tragedy: 38 dead, six arrested, search on for factory owner
With one more person succumbing to injuries, the death toll in the fire at a fire-cracker factory near Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu has now reached 38. At least 60 others have been injured. The fire broke out at the factory, Om Siva Sakthi Crackers, at about 12:30 pm yesterday. It took 10 fire tenders close to five hours to bring it under control.

The story is about two friends who lose and find themselves amid the welter of gang wars and personal greed. Kasi (Arjun) sets out to Mumbai in search of the killers of his parents. He finds two of the three, and finishes them. A don appreciates his daring and audacity and he is quickly enlisted by the bhai. Elsewhere, there is Siva (Jagapathi), he is part of another gang. Meanwhile, Kasi, who helps Anjali (Vedika) and her family, falls in love with her. Siva has a thing going with Meena (Gajala). The ganglords end up killing Siva's brother and Kasi's lover. When Siva and Kasi come face to face, they realize they had been together in the prison before they had come to Mumbai. Twelve persons were arrested today in connection with the gruesome tragedy at a fireworks manufacturing unit near here that claimed atlleast 38 lives, even as government ordered a magisterial probe into the mishap and officials indulged in a blame-game. As a hunt was launched to nab the factory owner, a top police official said several violations of safety norms like overcrowding, overstocking and wrong mixing of chemicals, had been found, leading to one of the worst mishaps yesterday in Sivakasi, hub of the country's cracker industry. Five persons who had taken the Omshakthi fireworks factory complex, the scene of the tragedy, on lease, its foreman, three supervisors and three accountants had been arrested RPT had been arrested, police said.
