The Yakut language belongs to the Turkic group of languages, which belongs to the Altaic family of languages. Turkic languages are characterised by vowel harmony, general lack of consonant groups, the specific lack of initial l and r in native words, the use of possessive suffixes, lack of gender and a general agglutination of suffixes in word formation... Mongolic Shera Yogor language. The Shera Yogors live in the Sunan Shera Yogor Autonomous County (Chinese: Sunan Yuguzu Zizhixian) in Gansu Province. The Shera Yogors inhabiting the western part of the County speak a Turkic language, and they are referred to as Khar Yogors 'Black Uigurs' by the Mongols who also live in that region. The total number of the Turkic speaking Khar Yogors, who still speak that language is around 13 thousand. The eastern part of the County is inhabited by the 'real' Shera Yogors, called Shar Yoogor 'Yellow Uigur' by the Mongols. They speak a Mongolic language that shares common features with Monguor, Dongxiang and Bao'an. Approximately 3 thousand people speak this language.

The Yugur live primarily in Sunan Yugur Autonomous County in Gānsù Province. About 4600 of the Yugurs speak a Turkic language and about 2800 a Mongolic language; the remaining Yugurs of the Autonomous County lost their respective Yugur language and speak Chinese. A very small number of the Yugur reportedly speak Tibetan. They use Chinese for intercommunication. Both Yugur languages are now unwritten, although vertical Uyghur script was in use in some Yugur communities till end of 18th century.

Zamani discusses the current elections crisis and why Azerbaijani provinces in Iran have been relatively quiet compared to Tehran. The Association for the Defence of Azerbaijani Political Prisoners (ADAPP) works on the human rights situation facing Irans minorities, and in particular, the Azerbaijani Turkic community. Iranian Azerbaijanis are mainly Shia Muslims and are acknowledged as Irans largest minority, where they are generally believed to constitute between 25-30 percent of the population. The Azerbaijani Turkic society is mainly in the north and north-west of Iran, although significant communities are found throughout the country. In recent years, they have been calling for greater cultural and linguistic rights, such as the right to education in the Azerbaijani-Turkic language, and the right to celebrate Azerbaijani culture and history. However, these demands are violently suppressed by the Iranian authorities, resulting in execution, torture, persecution and imprisonment of Azerbaijani human rights activists.

Uzbekistan, officially the Republic of Uzbekistan / Ozbekiston Respublikasi or Ўзбекистон Республикаси, is a doubly landlocked country in Central Asia, formerly part of the Soviet Union. It shares borders with Kazakhstan to the west and to the north, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to the east, and Afghanistan and Turkmenistan to the south. Once part of the Persian Samanid and later Timurid empires, the region was conquered in the early 16th century by Uzbek nomads, who spoke an Eastern Turkic language. Most of Uzbekistans population today belong to the Uzbek ethnic group and speak the Uzbek language, one of the family of Turkic languages. Uzbekistan was incorporated into the Russian Empire in the 19th century and in 1924 became a constituent republic of the Soviet Union, known as the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic (Uzbek SSR). It has been an independent republic since December 1991. Uzbekistan's economy relies mainly on commodity production, including cotton, gold, uranium, potassium, and natural gas. Despite the declared objective of transition to a market economy, Uzbekistan continues to maintain rigid economic controls, which often repel foreign investors. The policy of gradual, strictly controlled transition has nevertheless produced beneficial results in the form of economic recovery after 1995.
