Dan Issel (34pts) vs. 76ers (1978)
Dan Issel scores one of the quietest 34 points I have ever seen. His percentage from the floor must have been great in this one. The Horse uses his sneaky moves around the basket and just seems to be in the right place at the right time every time he scores. He doesn't make the game winner though. January 29, 1978.

Dan Issel (22pts) vs. Nets (1974 ABA Playoffs)
Unlike his team-mate (both on the Kentucky Wildcats and Kentucky Colonels) Louie Dampier, Dan Issel had a successful NBA career. His prime years were in the ABA though. Nicknamed "The Horse" because of his effort (you'll see why in this video), he and Artis Gilmore formed one of the best front courts in basketball during the 70s. Dan scores 22 points close to the basket in this particular ABA Eastern Division Finals game.

Dan Issel - Domination
Daniel (Dan) Paul Issel (born October 25, 1948 in Batavia, Illinois) is a retired American professional basketball player and coach.
Upon Issel's graduation in 1970 he signed to play basketball for the Kentucky Colonels of the American Basketball Association (ABA). In his first season, Issel led the ABA in scoring with a scoring average of 29.9 points per game, and pulled down 13.2 rebounds per game. He was named the ABA Rookie of the year in 1971, and was selected to the All-ABA Second Team. The following season, Issel raised his scoring average to 30.6 points per game, made the All-ABA First Team, and was named MVP of the 1972 ABA All-Star Game.
In 1975, Issel won an ABA title with the Colonels, who also featured sharp-shooting guard (and fellow ex-Kentucky Wildcat) Louie Dampier, as well as 7-2 center Artis Gilmore. After the Colonels' championship season Issel was sold by the Colonels' owners to the short-lived Baltimore Claws franchise and ended up with the Denver Nuggets for the following season.
Issel remained with the Nuggets following the ABA's merger with the NBA in 1976, and represented Denver in the 1977 NBA All-Star Game. He continued playing through the 1984-1985 season, and received the NBA's J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in 1985 for his outstanding service to the community.
Issel accumulated over 27,000 points in his combined ABA and NBA career. At the time of his retirement the only professional basketball players to have scored more points than Issel were Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain and Julius Erving.

Dan Issel Drive
"I am searching for more stuff!"
Dan Issel, one of the greatest scoring abilities of all time!
An underrated superstar from the ABA days who was able to make his game translate into the NBA became the greatest player in the history of the Denver Nuggets. Dan Issel was a scoring machine in his day and when he retired his combined ABA and NBA point ranked him 4th all-time in scoring behind Jabbar, Chamberlain and Erving.
Issel attended the University of Kentucky where he put up some flat out awesome numbers. He averaged a double double all three seasons he played on the varsity team and a senior an astounding 34 points a game and set the Kentucky single game scoring mark of 51 points which was not eclipsed until Jodie Meeks did it in 2009. After four years at Kentucky, three varsity and one Freshman, Issel had averages of 26 points, and 13 rebounds and appeared in 83 games.
He was drafted by both the Detroit Pistons of the NBA and the Kentucky Colonels of the ABA, and he chose the near by Colonels of the ABA. He had a spectacular rookie year with the Colonels averaging just under 30 points a game and winning rookie of the year. He also made hist first all-star team his rookie year.
Issel continued his scoring barrage his second year raising his average to over 30 points and winning all-star MVP. The 30.6 points per game he averaged in 1971-72 would be a career high but He`d remain one of the top scorers in basketball for the remainder of his career.
Issel appeared in 1,2128 total games, 718 for the NBA and 500 in the NBA. He had scoring averages of 26 point a game in the ABA and 20 in the NBA for a career total of 23 points per game and was a 6 time all-star. He coached the Denver Nuggets to their stunning upset of the Seattle Sonics in 1994.

Calvin Natt (28pts/8rebs) vs. Lakers (1985 Playoffs)
This game shows the true colors of Calvin Natt - a hard-working forward who gets the job done despite being extremely under-sized at his 6'6 height. The Nuggets put up one heck of a fight and come to be so close to tying the conference finals at 2, however everything that possibly can goes wrong for them. Alex English breaks his thumb after scoring 26 in the first half and doesn't return, veteran Dan Issel injures his thigh, Fat Lever is very rusty after just returning to the court from surgery, Abdul-Jabbar is dominating and Calvin Natt aggravates his knee injury. However, that doesn't stop Natt who carries his team until the end while limping on his soon-to-be operated on knee. It was tough watching such a great group of guys losing mainly due to injuries and having not enough fire-power against the stacked Lakers. May 19, 1985.

1994 NBA Playoffs: Denver Nuggets upsets Seattle Sonics
Denver fired Westhead prior to the 1992-1993 season and hired ABA legend and former Nugget Player Dan Issel. The Nuggets had two lottery picks that year and drafted University of Notre Dame forward LaPhonso Ellis and University of Virginia guard Bryant Stith. Denver improved to 36-46, just missing the playoffs that year. Denver ditched their rainbow colors for a dark blue and gold scheme starting in the 1993-1994 season. Led by Mutombo, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf (who changed his name from Chris Jackson prior to the season), and Ellis, Denver would finish with its first winning season since the Doug Moe era at 42-40. Denver clinched the 8th seed in the Western Conference playoffs, playing the first place Seattle SuperSonics. Denver was a heavy underdog, having only a couple of players on their roster with actual NBA playoff experience. After dropping the first two games of the five game set in Seattle, the series returned to Denver. Denver won both games and tied the series at two games apiece. The Nuggets would make NBA history in Game 5, upsetting Seattle in overtime 98-94. They became the first 8th seeded team to defeat a 1st seeded team in NBA playoff history. Denver would almost do the same in the next round, falling to the Utah Jazz in game seven of the second round.
