Saturday 10th March 2012 saw the world's largest airplane land at Glasgow Prestwick International to pick up what looked like a BIG blue generator - must have been heavy and in a hurry to be somewhere! This video follows the aircraft in to land on Runway 31 and shows the loading of the cargo through the nose.

Copyright Discovery Channel From Wikipedia The An-225 Mriya (Ukrainian: Антонов Ан-225 Мрія, NATO reporting name: Cossack) is a strategic airlift transport aircraft which was built by the Antonov Design Bureau, and is the largest flying airplane ever built. The design, built to transport the Buran orbiter, was an enlargement of the successful An-124 Ruslan. Mriya (Мрія) means "Dream" (Inspiration) in Ukrainian. Two An-225s have been produced. The Antonov An-225 is commercially available for flying any over-sized payload due to the unique size of its cargo deck. This An-148 is one of the few modern russian planes which are currently flying in Europe. The AN-148 was delivered in 2010. There are just a few operators of this aircraft type and it` s also not a regular "DUS" visitor. Thanks for watching

Taken at East Midlands Airport 26th October 2009, this video is of the Antonov An 225 Mriya, the largest cargo plane flying today. She was built in 1988 by Antonov, Ukraine. This massive plane was due to take off yesterday but was delayed as she didn't have a cargo. We arrived at the airport about 10am with the take off scheduled for 11am. Just after 10.30 we heard the engines being fired up, after a good engine warm up she started to move just a short distance. The nose cone was lifted, I assume for cargo to be loaded. At about 11am she was on the move again, this time she taxied out on to the runway. She passed very close to where we were standing and disappeared from sight to the other end of the runway. We heard her engines howling and she came into view again already airborne and then flew overhead and into low level cloud. I hope you enjoy the video, though it really does not do justice to the incredible size of this plane.
