1926 Armstead Snow Motor Vehicle
This screw-propelled vehicle was designed to cope with difficult snow and ice terrain. Instead of tracks, the vehicle is moved by the rotation of two horisontal cylinders fitted with a helical flange that engages with the snow surface. The Armstead Snow Motor was developed in the early 1920's. Leading Detroit automobile makers had organized a company entitled "Snow Motors Inc" to put out a machine that would negotiate the deepest snowdrifts at six to eight miles an hour. The vehicle consisted of a tractor power-plant mounted on two revolving cylinders instead of wheels.

Chris LaPorte: City Band
Chris LaPorte is a Grand Rapids, Michigan based artist who loves to draw. He is currently creating a life size pencil drawing called "City Band" for submission in the 2012 ArtPrize competition in Grand Rapids, MI.
This is the story of City Band's beginnings and the massive undertaking of an epic work of art.
With City Band, Chris attempts to create a visual narrative that plays on the idea of one’s life equating to lines, physical ones and metaphorical ones. City Band took a year to create and is inspired by a photograph of Chris' grandfather's 1926 high school marching band in Bay City, Michigan. City Band is not a copy of a photograph but an original composition, with an original environment and original figure postures and positions. Drawn in a series of panels on the wall, no projection of any kind was used in its creation. You can follow Chris LaPorte and City Band's progress at chrislaporte.com and at artprize.com.

SILENCE OF DEATH directed by Mani Nasry (16MM FILM) 1ST YEAR RYERSON UNIVERSITY STUDENT FILM

This Scene expresses- FEAR- noun: an emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger (usually accompanied by a desire to flee or fight). noun: a feeling of anxiety and agitation caused by the presence or nearness of danger, evil, pain, etc.; timidity; dread; terror; fright; apprehension. Terrify not your soul with vain imaginary fears. By realizing that you are the one feeding the fire, you can start to take control of your fears. Panic is a vicious cycle that can be broken. When you start to have irrational fears you need to take action quick. Eleanor Roosevelt once said: "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing, which you think you cannot do." We must stop running away from things that frighten us, face our fears head on, and do the thing we fear the most. Most of the time we'll find out that the "thing" was not that scary after all. Our imaginations had behaved like a super fertilizer and grown a grotesque monstrosity in our minds. Remember, our imaginations are incredibly powerful. They can work against us, creating horrible images that leave us paralyzed with fear and they can also work for us, building a world where everything we do is an adventure, a miracle. And the most amazing thing is that we hold the power to control our minds - we allow fear to dominate our lives or we choose to dominate fear. Those are our only two choices.

Remember Lot's Wife and Let Go the Salt!
JOURNEY 2010: LIVING THE WILL OF GOD: LET GO THE SALT
Journey 2010 is about living in the will of God. It is about what John said in 3 John 1:4 "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth."
Now God's Will, God's truth will always be corrupted and thwarted by unrighteousness "Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth."
END TIMES
This morning I will reveal to you the single greatest motivation we as Christians have for walking in the truth. This revealing involves "end times" teachings. Now most of us are very curious about the "end times". Most of you responded that something you would like to know more about is the Book of Revelations.
Let me give you this about that. Curiosity is not the proper reason to study Revelations. Jesus gives us the proper reason to study the Word or Revelations: "Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." If your study is motivated by your personal hunger and desire for righteousness, God will satisfy you, He will teach you. But if you are only motivated by curiosity or the pride of 'knowing', you will come away not knowing, not being satisfied.
Now as I teach this morning, you may question some of my suggestions as not being in line with what you believe is correct, especially among Southern Baptists. But allow me to clarify: The Southern Baptist Faith and Message is extremely vague about the end time teaching in the Bible. Here is what our official church belief is about the end times according to the Southern Baptist Faith and Message:
X. Last Things
God, in His own time and in His own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end. According to His promise, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth; the dead will be raised; and Christ will judge all men in righteousness. The unrighteous will be consigned to Hell, the place of everlasting punishment. The righteous in their resurrected and glorified bodies will receive their reward and will dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord. (2000 Baptist Faith & Message)
So if I get in trouble, it will not be from teaching something contrary to Southern Baptist beliefs. It will be simply because I am teaching something that is contrary to what you have been taught. But let me advise you. My belief's change only when I look at God's Word and study what it says and don't depend on others to tell me what to believe. The truth must be within you and it must be based upon what you have studied and struggled with. Don't accept at face value what I say or what others say. Study to show yourself approved - dokimos unto God, a workman who is not ashamed, but who rightly divides the truth! We'll see why that is so important.
OUR MOTIVATION
What Is This Single Greatest Motivation For Walking In Truth And Following God's Will?
1 John 3:1-3 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.
JOHN SAYS THAT THE TRUTH OF CHRIST'S 2ND COMING AND OUR CHANGE INTO HIS GLORIOUS BODY IS THE HOPE THAT PURIFIES US.
1 Peter 1:22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart,
So this truth of our FUTURE transformation when we are face to face with Jesus Christ is to motivate us in the PRESENT to obey His truth and in so doing become PURIFIED or CONSECRATED (agnízō - in 1 John 3:3) to God, which is what living in His Will and walking in His truth is all about.
I have read that in certain countries, hunters capture monkeys using a very simple but effective trap. They make a hole in a hollow tree and put a banana in it. The hole is big enough for the monkey’s hand to go in but not for its fist to come out. A monkey would then reach in and grab the banana. It then tries to pull its hand out while grabbing on to the banana to no avail. Its closed fist would be too big for the hole. For the monkey to be able to pull its hand out it has to drop the banana. But hunters are well aware that monkeys will not let go of the banana and that the monkeys will kick and squeal when the hunter approaches but they refuse to let go of the banana. They refuse to let go of the bait and so become captured.
LET GO
This morning I want each of us to "let go". If we are to Live in the Will of God, we must "LET GO"
Jesus was approached by a young man who wanted to know:
(The Message) Matthew 19:16-22 Another day, a man stopped Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?" Jes

Light Slider Controller - Build
This is the time lapse controller for the Light Camera Slider http://www.vimeo.com/17725662. You select the number of shots to be taken (1-999), the time to move (3-999 minutes), Interval between shots (1-999 seconds), Exposure time (1-999 seconds) and press go. The controller will drive the slider the required amount, stop, fire the camera, wait for the exposure time and then drive the slider for the next shot. You can see it in use in this video https://vimeo.com/54571725,
The stepper motor drive provides very precise movement of the slider. The stepper motor requires 1600 steps per revolution and I am using a ¼ in BSW drive thread (20 threads per inch). One step gives (25.4 / 20) / 1600 = 0.0008 mm movement of the slider. If I took 1000 shots at the slowest stepping speed the slider would move a total of 0.8 mm. The fastest the stepper motor can drive the slider is 4 mm per second or about 3 minutes for the full 650 mm travel.
I have load tested the motor which can lift up to 5kg vertical on the slider before it stalls.
These are the major components.
• 4N25 Opto Coupler IC, this electrically isolates the controller from the camera.http://www.jaycar.com.au/products_uploaded/ZD1926_4N25SR2-M__ZD1934_4N35SR2-M.pdf
• Arduino Demilanove 328, this is the brain of the controller. Think this controller has been replaced by the Arduino Uno.
• DFRobot Arudino Keyboard Shield, provides LCD and keyboard input.
• ProtoShield for Arduino, board to attach Opto Coupler and EasyDriver.
• EasyDriver Steper Motor Driver, this drives the stepper motor. See http://schmalzhaus.com/EasyDriver/
• Stepper Motor, provides the drive.
• Powered by 12V 6Ah battery Motor://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=SB2485&form;=CAT2&SUBCATID;=997#12
I purchased these components from the Australian web site: http://www.littlebirdelectronics.com. You can also find these components at the US site: www.sparkfun.com.
For full details on the micro controllers see: http://www.arduino.cc
You can also find code for motion control at: http://www.openmoco.org. I looked at this code, but ended up writing my own. See the code at https://gist.github.com/752692. All the controller electronics is easy to use as this is the first time I have ever built one. I am no electronics expert as you can tell from my terrible soldering job.
I have made a few improvements to the slider since filming; see photos on the attached link. These include:
• Finished the controller enclosure to protect the electronics.
• Replaced the purchased stepper drive coupling with one I made. Mine one is much more precise and stronger.
• Replaced the carriage drive nut with a bigger bronze bush for smother action.
• Added adjustable drag breaks to the carriage. This reduces any slack in the bearings and provides smoother sliding when controlling the slider by hand.
WARNING:
All of the cutting and some of the drilling footage have been sped up to make the video shorter. Don’t try to cut or drill this fast or you are likely to destroy your tools or yourself.
FILM
The weather in Sydney has been terrible the last few weeks, so I have unable to get any good quality night time lapse shots. The controller should do the job, if only the weather would co-operate. Mostly shot on my Canon 550d, with some extra shots using a Sony NEX-5. Most shots using 50mm 1:1.8 prime lens. I used a set of Tiffen Close-up Glass Lens Set for the close up shots. Canon 10-22mm for wide angle. I used my Mountain Bike Ay-Up LED headlights for lighting. Music: Welcome to Lunar Industries by Clint Mansell. Edited in FCP and no colour correction.
I have used my Light Camera Crane for a few of the construction shots see
http://www.vimeo.com/17780636 and also used the slider for a few of the close up shots http://www.vimeo.com/17725662
See photos at flickr.com/photos/53188536@N06/ This includes photos of the improvements after this film was completed.

The General (1926)
A 1926 silent comedy film starring Buster Keaton. Union solders have stolen The General, a Confederate train manned by Johnnie Gray, who was unable to enlist in the Confederate army because he is needed as an engineer. The Union plans to use the train to supply its soldiers in a sneak attack against the Confederates. But now it's up to Gray and his love, Annabelle Lee, to reclaim The General, recross enemy lines, and warn the Confederates. The General is based on a real incident during the American Civil War when a posse of northern soldiers hijacked a confederate train and a lone southern engineer found himself fighting the lot of them alone.
