Finally! Ice fishing has started! This is the first ice fishing trip of the year and it was for yellow perch at Virginia Beach, Lake Simcoe. There was about 4" of clear black where we had ventured out to, with some slush and rain on top because of the previous day's rain. During our walk out, we could feel the strong winds that was bound for us throughout the day but once we drilled our holes and found some fish, we had set up shop. The hut was put up and we stayed put and saw fish come in waves. We had success on a variety of lures and tackle.
My buddy Kelvin preferred jigging raps and plastic minnows. I chose lipless cranks and small jigs.

Best fishing weekend for perch I've ever had, the perch on Lake Simcoe are like footballs in both length and girth, lots of 11 inch, 12 inch and monster 13" fish.
The biggest fish of the weekend was just over 13" and a 10.5" girth!

SIMCOE spent the summer touring of the back of their first EP, released in June 2015. Their brand of “dreamy, atmospheric pop” (MyEntertainmentWorld), “epic verses and anthemic hooks,” (It’s All Indie) has charmed audiences across Toronto in venues like the Horseshoe Tavern, Smiling Buddha, and the Silver Dollar. Now working towards a batch of fresh material, SIMCOE took to the roofs in the Annex, where they found a sweet spot between the gathering clouds.

Finally the itch was scratched! Some parts of Lake Simcoe froze over enough for our group of friends to head out to find some lake trout. There was a mere 3-3.5 inches of ice in most of our spots. So please be safe if you plan on heading out! It was a fun filled trip with a lot of running around between our guys to catch as much as possible on camera. Lots of great underwater shots were taken with the GoPro Hero4s. Most of the popular Lake Simcoe lake trout lures worked for us today. As a group, we landed over 20+ fish and lost maybe as many. #lakersmash

Finally! Ice fishing has started! This is the first ice fishing trip of the year and it was for yellow perch at Virginia Beach, Lake Simcoe. There was about 4" of clear black where we had ventured out to, with some slush and rain on top because of the previous day's rain. During our walk out, we could feel the strong winds that was bound for us throughout the day but once we drilled our holes and found some fish, we had set up shop. The hut was put up and we stayed put and saw fish come in waves. We had success on a variety of lures and tackle.
My buddy Kelvin preferred jigging raps and plastic minnows. I chose lipless cranks and small jigs.

Finally the itch was scratched! Some parts of Lake Simcoe froze over enough for our group of friends to head out to find some lake trout. There was a mere 3-3.5 inches of ice in most of our spots. So please be safe if you plan on heading out! It was a fun filled trip with a lot of running around between our guys to catch as much as possible on camera. Lots of great underwater shots were taken with the GoPro Hero4s. Most of the popular Lake Simcoe lake trout lures worked for us today. As a group, we landed over 20+ fish and lost maybe as many. #lakersmash
