Voting on LNC Chair nominations, Libertarian Party nominating convention 2012
Contentious voting for chair of the Libertarian National Committee took 6 ballots. Final choice was someone, Geoff Neale, who was not on first few ballots, and who claimed that while Treasurer years before he had lied when asked to (by some of those running against him in this election!) do so about budget shenanigans. Lying then? Or lying now?

RNC Shuns Ron Paul, Supporters Root For Romney Defeat
"I want to make sure that when the Republican Party loses, terribly to, in my opinion, the worst president in history, I want [them to know] it's because they systematically shut out the most intelligent, most youthful and active voting bloc in American history," said Ron Paul voter Mike Timoney. Timoney's statement accurately reflected the mood at PAULfest, a celebration held by Congressman Ron Paul's supporters at the Tampa Fairgrounds on the weekend before the 2012 Republican National Convention. With controversy surrounding the seating of GOP delegates in several state conventions, many who caucused for Paul feel disenfranchised by the actions of the GOP and vow to turn against the party this election. While certain attendees went so far as to call Mitt Romney a "monster," most of Paul's youthful supporters exhibited more frustration and disappointment than anger. "[The GOP] made it clear yesterday that they see us more as a nuisance than as potential allies," said John Jones, one of 10 Ron Paul-supporting Maine delegates that the RNC stripped of their delegate status on Friday. Libertarian Presidential Candidate Gary Johnson was a headlining speaker at the event, which was in part sponsored by the Libertarian Party. "The frustration, I think, can get focused in a way that can impact this election," said Johnson. "And that would be, voting for me." Many Paul supporters at the event expressed support for Johnson's campaign, and even those who didn't vowed not to vote ...

Does Ron Paul's Revolution End in Nebraska?

ANCHOR NEVILLE MILLER
Ron Paul won’t get his 15 minutes.
We’re not talking about fame here. Paul needed to sway Nebraska’s GOP convention Saturday to get 15 minutes on the mic at the upcoming national convention.
KETV explains.
“Representatives cast their votes for the GOP presidential nomination. This was Ron Paul's last chance at moving on to the national Republican convention next month. The Texas congressman did not win enough votes. Mitt Romney took the majority of Nebraska's 35 national delegate votes.”
According to national party rules, any Republican candidate needs a plurality of delegates in at least five states to be given a 15-minute speaking role in Tampa. Paul had plurality in four states heading into Nebraska, the last state to hold its convention. An Omaha World-Herald staff writer observed:
“It was obvious early in the convention that Paul did not have the numbers to win, although he had a strong showing ... Romney supporters were highly organized and disciplined. About five members of Romney’s staff were on hand to ensure that pro-Romney delegates knew exactly who to send to Tampa and that the rules were followed.”
Paul supporters in Nebraska were disappointed by the result. A writer for Digital Journal doesn’t think Paul’s “digital strategy” worked, which he defined as Paul supporters using intricate technicalities of party procedures to get picked as delegates.
“The aim of the Paul faction is to boost their profile and expand the influence of their libertarian ideology which opposes big government, foreign intervention and Federal Reserve policies. The ideological leaning of the Ron Paul faction is so radically different from the mainstream, especially in matters of foreign policy, that they are seen as gadflies by the Republican establishment.
A writer for PolicyMic notes — despite Paul’s loss, his supporters are creating a movement that won’t necessarily be defined by the 2012 election.
“Ron Paul’s support is not likely to get behind Romney or Obama ... But even if Paulites play no significant role in Tampa or in this election, their numbers are indeed growing. Whether or not there is a home for them in the hulking mass of the Republican Party will not be decided this year.”
So, what’s next for Paul? ABC reports.
“Now, Paul is guaranteed nothing in Tampa, and will depend on the graces of Romney and convention organizers to include him in the proceedings in late August.”
Paul was shut out of the Republican National Convention in 2008 and instead held his own event across town. Paul and 500 of his delegates plan on traveling to Tampa to make Paul’s presence noticeable.

3 Big Stories At the DNC Convention
Reason's Matt Welch explains the three major stories to be on the lookout for during the DNC convention in Charlotte, North Carolina: 1. What record is Obama going to be running on? Not only has the economy continued to plummet, but he's failed to deliver on several key promises, such as closing Gitmo and winding down the wars. 2. Will the media expend the same amount of energy vetting facts put forth by members of the Obama administration as they did with the Paul Ryan speech? 3. What exactly do President Obama and Vice President Biden plan to do with a second term? About 2 minutes. Produced by Zach Weissmueller and Paul Detrick. NDAA - Detention Without Trial, Prison Without Proof: AMA Foundation DNC 2012 Policy Forum
The American Muslim Alliance (AMA) held a Multi-Event Hospitality Suite open to delegates and the public during the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC. In the desire to promote public discourse and place the twin issues of Civil Liberties and Human Rights squarely on the American electoral agenda, the AMA Foundation and the California Civil Rights Alliance (CCRA) presented a DNC 2012 Policy Forum on the "National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA): Detention Without Trial, Prison Without Proof." Specific attention was called to Section 1021 of the NDAA that allows indefinite detention without trial, including US Citizens. The panel featured: Hon. Gary Johnson, 2012 Libertarian Party Presidential Candidate / Former Governor of New Mexico Dr. Johan Galtung, Major European Intellectual, Author of 150 Books, Founder of TRANSCEND International, Founder of Peace & Conflict Studies Ms. Sabahat R. Sherwani, Author, DNC 2012 Delegate from California Special appearance by: Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr., Founder & President, Rainbow PUSH Coalition The AMA believes that political power is not a function of numbers alone but is a combined product of initiative, innovation and determination. We therefore need to unlock our creative energies into meaningful steps towards political empowerment of the American Muslim community.
