The tidal range is the vertical difference between the high tide and the succeeding low tide. Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels caused by the combined effects of the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon and the Sun and the rotation of the Earth. The tidal range is not constant, but changes depending on where the sun and the moon are.
The most extreme tidal range occurs around the time of the full or new moons, when the gravitational forces of both the Sun and Moon are in phase reinforcing each other in the same direction (new moon), or are exactly the opposite phase (full). This type of tide is known as a spring tide. During neap tides, when the Moon and Sun's gravitational force vectors act in quadrature (making a right angle to the Earth's orbit), the difference between high and low tides is smaller. Neap tides occur during the first and last quarters of the moon's phases. The largest annual tidal range can be expected around the time of the Equinox, if coincidental with a spring tide.

If you need the height of the tide for a particular time, for example for 13:00, just enter the required time at the timescale grid. 13:00 is roughly 3 hours after high tide. Then check whether the tidal range is close to a spring range or neap range. In our case we have a tidal range of 3.8 meters; 4.2 - 0.4 equals 3.8 meters. As we can see from the mean ranges, 3.8 meters is close to a spring range. Next we draw a line from 3 hours after high water to the spring curve. Here we can interpolate by eye. "The Shubie" tidal bore is a world class sea kayak play sport. It bore runs on a river called the Shubenacadie River located at the top of the Bay of Fundy. This video was shot on a tidal range of 49.3 feet. The river is a magical place and the hammer has to be in the top 3 boats I have used on the "the Shubie". I was once told the hammer was to slow for "the Shubie" but after paddling it I would have to say it was one of my best days on the river. My apologies for the milky lens on my GoPro.I had some issues with moisture and salt. Shubie Tidal Bore October 11, 2014. Tidal range was just shy of 50 feet. I am sure that if you wanted the more accurate numbers rounded nearest 1000th, we could find somebody to explain. It was my first time on the bore in a kayak and had good company. "The Shubie" tidal bore is a world class sea kayak play sport. It bore runs on a river called the Shubenacadie River located at the top of the Bay of Fundy. This video was shot on a tidal range of 49.3 feet. The river is a magical place and the hammer has to be in the top 3 boats I have used on the "the Shubie". I was once told the hammer was to slow for "the Shubie" but after paddling it I would have to say it was one of my best days on the river. In this video there was no Bore wave to speak of but depending on the conditions there is a great front leading wave that forms a fun play wave and once it does up the river it leave us with plenty more things to play on. come to Nova Scotia. My apologies for the milky lens on my GoPro.I had some issues with moisture and salt. Shubie Tidal Bore October 11, 2014. Tidal range was just shy of 50 feet. I am sure that if you wanted the more accurate numbers rounded nearest 1000th, we could find somebody to explain. It was my first time on the bore in a kayak and had good company. We had a good time and can't wait to hit it again.

Introduction
The marine environment can supply energy in three main forms – tidal stream, wave and tidal range/barrage. These provide significant potential since we have some of the world’s best available tidal and wave resources in UK waters.
This insights report examines the potential for exploiting tidal stream energy in the UK, building on the learnings derived from ETI Marine technology development projects and in-house ETI system-level analysis.
It concludes that there is a demonstrable route to making tidal stream energy competitive with other low carbon technologies and that tidal stream has the potential to be a material part of the future UK energy system.
Tidal stream energy is a reliable and predictable low-carbon energy source. There is sufficient energy resource in UK waters (if it can be economically exploited) to make a material contribution to future UK energy supply needs. Tidal stream energy has additional benefits such as low visual impact, economic activity and stimulus in remote areas of the UK. Some potential disadvantages are the environmental impact on wildlife and disruption to shipping navigation and other marine economic activities.
Using the ETI’s internationally peer-reviewed Energy Systems Modelling Environment (ESME) tool – a national energy system design and planning capability - we have examined cost-optimised UK energy delivery pathways to 2050. This analysis confirms that tidal energy could compete successfully with alternative low-carbon energy sources, provided significant cost reduction and performance improvements are delivered.

Within two minutes, Falmouth Coastguard requested the launch of both of Ilfracombe RNLI's lifeboats to two separate incidents on Sunday afternoon (3 May) ... However, the experience that they had of kayaking was mainly on the River Thames, which, while tidal, does not have the huge tidal range, strong currents and in today's case, large swell and breaking surf of our Bristol Channel....
