Ronnie Deauville - The Glory of Love (1959)
Born in 1925, Ronnie Deauville had a promising career ahead of him when a tragic accident, coupled with a tragic illness brought an eventual halt. He had been making a name for himself, singing with big bands and appearing on TV and radio shows, when he was involved in a serious auto accident in 1956 that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Not long after, he contracted polio (just a few months before the preventive vaccine was discovered). He spent almost a year in an iron lung and was told he'd never sing again, due to diminished lung capacity. But through therapy he was able to regain most of his singing voice and made an attempt at resuming his career. Due to his precarious health he had to give up live performing and club dates. In later years, he dubbed singing for various movies, etc. and died in 1990 of cancer. This song was from an album he recorded 3 years after his accident and contracting polio, entitled "Ronnie Deauville" (aka Romance With Ronnie - Ronnie Deauville Sings)on Imperial (released as mono only) Song was originally written in 1936, by by Billy Hill; recorded by Benny Goodman, Dean Martin, Otis Redding, and by The Five Keys; also recorded by Bette Midler on the "Beaches" soundtrack album. La Vie En Rose - Louis Armstrong, Mantovani, Dean Martin & 101 Strings Orchestra!
15 Minutes of Romantic Beauty! Louis Daniel Armstrong (August 4, 1901 -- July 6, 1971), nicknamed Satchmo or Pops, was an American jazz trumpeter and singer from New Orleans, Louisiana. Coming to prominence in the 1920s as an "inventive" cornet and trumpet player, Armstrong was a foundational influence in jazz, shifting the music's focus from collective improvisation to solo performance. With his instantly recognizable deep and distinctive gravelly voice, Armstrong was also an influential singer, demonstrating great dexterity as an improviser, bending the lyrics and melody of a song for expressive purposes. He was also greatly skilled at scat singing, vocalizing using sounds and syllables instead of actual lyrics. Renowned for his charismatic stage presence and voice almost as much as for his trumpet-playing, Armstrong's influence extends well beyond jazz music, and by the end of his career in the 1960s, he was widely regarded as a profound influence on popular music in general. +++ Annunzio Paolo Mantovani (November 15, 1905 -- March 29, 1980) known by the mononym Mantovani, was an Anglo-Italian conductor and light orchestra styled entertainer with a cascading strings musical signature. The British Hit Singles & Albums book noted that he was "Britain's most successful album act before The Beatles... the first act to sell over one million stereo albums and had six albums simultaneouly in the US Top 30 in 1959". +++ Dean Martin (June 7, 1917 -- December 25, 1995), born ...

Petula Clark Tribute
Here is a beautiful song from 1959 performed by the fantastic and inalterable Petula Clark. Petula Sally Olwen Clark (born in 1932) is an English singer, actress and composer best known for her upbeat popular international hits of the 1960's, especially "Downtown". With more than 70 million records sold worldwide, she is the most successful British female solo recording artist. She also holds the distinction of having the longest span on the UK pop charts of any British female artist — 54 years. In 1944, while performing at London's Royal Albert Hall, Clark was discovered by film director Maurice Elvey, who cast her in his war drama "Medal for the General". She then worked with Anthony Newley in "Vice Versa" (directed by Peter Ustinov) and Alec Guinness in "The Card". In 1946, she launched her television career with an appearance on a BBC variety show, "Cabaret Cartoons", which led to her being signed to host her own afternoon series, titled simply "Petula Clark". A second, "Pet's Parlour", followed in 1949. In later years, she starred in "This is Petula Clark" (1966) and "The Sound of Petula" (1972-74). In 1949, Clark branched into recording with her first release, "Put Your Shoes On, Lucy", for EMI. She scored a number of major hits in the UK during the 1950's. In 1958, Clark was invited to appear at the Olympia in Paris where she was received with acclaim. Her initial French recordings were huge successes. Gradually she moved further into the continent, recording in ...

Harlan Howard - I Wish I Felt This Way At Home
Harlan Howard (9/8/1927 - 3/3/2002) Most people knew Harlan Howard by the songs he penned - more than 4000 of them. In a career that spanned more than six decades, Harlan was one of Nashvilles greatest and most prolific songwriters. More than 100 of his compositions became chart-toppers for artists such as Patsy Cline, Ray Charles, Buck Owens, Dean Martin, The Judds, Reba McEntire, Waylon Jennings, Glen Campbell, and Dolly Parton. Some of his biggest songs include, I Fall To Pieces, Pick Me Up On Your Way Down, Life Turned Her That Way, Above And Beyond, I've Got a Tiger By The Tail, Don't Tell Me What To Do, Somebody Should Leave, Somewhere Tonight, Too Many Rivers, Why Not Me, Busted and Blame It on Your Heart Harlan was born in Detroit and raised on farms in Michigan, but times were tough for a young farm boy in the years following the Great Depression. He started writing country songs around the age of 12. Howard listened to the Grand Ole Opry and admired Ernest Tubb and Floyd Tillman. Harlan decided to move to Los Angeles in 1955 to pursue his dream of songwriting. Shortly after moving to LA, he met Tex Ritter and Johnny Bond and played them some tunes that he had written. Slowly, with the help of country artists such as Wynn Stewart, Bobby Bare and Skeets McDonald, he began to have his songs recorded. His first real hit came in 1959 when Charlie Walker recorded Pick Me Up On Your Way Down. Soon after Ray Price put his Heartaches By the Number on the top of the ...

Rick "Ricky" Nelson - The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet (1964) - The Christmas Song
They're all gone now.. :-( The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet was an American sitcom, airing on ABC from October 3, 1952 through March 26, 1966, starring the real life Nelson family. After a long run on radio, the show was brought to television where it continued its success, running on both radio and TV for a couple of years. The series starred Ozzie Nelson and his wife, singer Harriet Nelson (née Hilliard), and their young sons, David and Eric "Ricky" or "Rick" Nelson. Don DeFore had a recurring role as the Nelsons' friendly neighbor "Thorny". The series attracted large audiences, and although it was never a top-ten hit, it became synonymous with the 1950s ideal American family life. It is the longest-running live-action sitcom in US television history. Big Band Leader Les Brown Recalls The Nutty Professor Movie
an old phone interview of johnswackyworld interviewing big band leader les brown in january 1993 from his archives. les brown speaks briefly about the movie the nutty professor starring jerry lewis. Les Brown was born in Reinerton, Pennsylvania on March 14, 1912. He was a big band leader and composer, best known for his nearly seven decades of work with the group Les Brown and His Band of Renown (1938-2001). les brown began his career at the old ithaca college conservatory of music in 1927. After graduating from New York Military Academy in 1932, Les Brown attended college at Duke University from 1932-1936. There he led the group Les Brown and His Blue Devils, who performed regularly on Duke's campus and up and down the east coast. Brown took the band on an extensive summer tour in 1936. At the end of the tour, while some of the band members returned to Duke to continue their education, others stayed on with Brown and continued to tour, becoming in 1938 the Band of Renown. A few years later, in 1945, this band brought Doris Day into prominence with their recording of "Sentimental Journey". The song's release coincided with the end of WWII in Europe and became the unofficial homecoming theme for many veterans. The band had nine other number-one hit songs, including "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm". Les Brown and the Band of Renown performed with Bob Hope on radio, stage and TV for almost fifty years. Favorite Caricatures - Abbott & Costello
William "Bud" Abbott and Lou Costello (originally Louis Francis Cristillo) were a pair of American comedians who performed on stage, then on radio and in films, and finally on television during the 1940s and 1950s and were considered the most popular comic team of their time. They did a baseball routine called "Who's On First?" that is still considered one of the funniest comic routines of all time. Abbott, who was born in 1897 and died in 1974, was the sly straight man, and Costello, who was born in 1906 and died in 1959, was the bumbling (and dumb) comic who went for the laughs. Toward the end of their career, bad health slowed them both, plus the new comedy team of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis had come along to steal their crowds. They pretty much dissolved their partnership in 1957, two years before Costello died of a heart attack. Background is the classic "Who's On First?" baseball routine, performed by Abbott and Costello.

The Everly Brothers thru the years. 3 songs
They started with the hit "Bye Bye Love" in 1957 and had a last hit in 1984 with "On the Wings Of a Nightingale". Their family roots were in Kentucky but the brothers grew up in Iowa, which became their home. They toured radio stations and sang with their father Ike. Around 1956 the two went to Nashville to find a music career of their own. The rest is history. They were on the Cadence label 1957-1960, and on the Warner Brothers label 1960-1970. 1957-1962 were their big years, but there was a lot more for fans to find after that. Their own favorite albums were in the mid-60s: Beat+Soul, Rock+Soul, and In Our Image. Selections: 1) Kentucky - from the 1959 album "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us", also on the compilation "End Of An Era". 2) Lovey Kravezit - from In Our Image 1966. It's about the female in Dean Martin's film "The Silencers". 3) Danger Danger - from the 1984 album "EB84". still rocking.

SASHA GREY
“For my film portrait of Sasha Grey, I wanted to focus on her expressive and psychological transformation into a cinematic actor, separate from the cues that have associated Sasha with her previous career as a performance artist working within the adult film world.” –Richard Phillips
Shot on location at the John Lautner Chemosphere House off Mulholland Drive, the film showcases Sasha as a perpetually evolving figure. Costume designer Ellen Mirojnick (“Basic Instinct,” “Fatal Attraction,” “Wall Street,” “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps”) dressed Sasha for the part in an array of lingerie and military inspired garments to highlight the dual nature of her masculine / feminine persona. Looking over the roadside from the vantage point of one the most legendary residences in modern and cinematic history, Sasha reflects on her relationship to the San Fernando Valley landscape- the location of some of her most noted adult performances. Back inside the circular vortex of the Chemosphere, Sasha's inner dialogue projects an equally diaristic and imaginary self-portrait that pushes beyond the extremes of her past filmography and into her new future.
“Sasha Grey,” along with Phillip’s first short film, “Lindsay Lohan,” will be included in "Commercial Break," presented by the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, Venice, Italy, June 1 - 5, 2011, concurrent with the 54th international exhibition of the Venice Biennale.

About Richard Phillips
Phillips’ strikingly distinctive paintings are drawn from found imagery that deal with the marketability of man, his wishes, ideas, actions, identity, sexuality, politics, and desires. Images he translates into drawings and then paintings executed through a traditional process. In doing so, he makes use of the iconic quality of pictures, which the media and art use daily – each according to its own agenda. Perhaps more so than any other contemporary painter of his kind, Phillips’ imagery has achieved a level of pop recognition outside of the artworld with fashion, media and film collaborations, including Gossip Girl, MAC Cosmetics, The Art Production Fund, Visionaire, and a recent guest judge appearance on Bravo’s new TV series “Work of Art: The Next Great Artist”. Phillips’ most recent exhibition, Most Wanted at White Cube in London, features ten larger than life celebrity portraits set against red carpet step and repeat backdrops.
Born in Massachusetts in 1962, Richard Phillips lives and works in New York City. He has exhibited extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe including Gagosian Gallery, New York; the Kunsthalle Zürich; Le Consortium in Dijon; Max Hetzler, Berlin; and White Cube in London.

Dick Stabile & Gracie Barrie - Pack Up Your Trouble In Your Old Kit Bag
Dick Stabile (May 29, 1909 -- September 18, 1980) was an American jazz saxophonist and bandleader. Stabile got his start playing in theater ensembles on Broadway in the 1950s. He joined Ben Bernie's orchestra in 1928, where he remained for several years. In 1935 he started his own ensemble, recording with vocalists such as Bunny Berigan, Paula Kelly, Burt Shaw, and Gracie Barrie, the last of which he would go on to marry. During this time Stabile recorded for the labels Decca, Bluebird, ARC, and Vocalion/Okeh. His band worked often in hotels in New York City and was chosen to play at the New York World's Fair in 1959--60. During World War II Stabile led a band while serving in the Coast Guard; Gracie Barrie led his ensemble in his absence. After the war he moved to Los Angeles, where he began working with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis from 1949 up to his death. He was the leader of the orchestra on many of Martin's popular recordings. Additionally, he worked with Jimmy Dorsey and Vincent Lopez. Contrary to the assertions of some, Stabile did not play the alto solos in "So Rare," which was recorded by Jimmy Dorsey on November 11, 1956. Rather, Stabile was utilized for his alto in a session that occurred several days after Dorsey's death, and under the leadership of trumpeter Lee Castle. After spending the latter 1960s leading dance bands at Los Angeles ballrooms, Stabile took a job at the Hotel Roosevelt in New Orleans, where he worked from the middle of the 1970s until his ...

West of the Divide (1934) - Full Official Movie - Great Quality Film :)
West of the Divide (1934) - Full Official Movie - Great Quality Film :) West of the Divide is a 1934 American Western film starring John Wayne. BACKGROUND he American frontier comprises the geography, history, folklore, and cultural expression of life in the forward wave of American westward expansion from the original colonial settlements to the early 20th century. Enormous popular attention in the media focuses on the second half of the 19th century, a period sometimes called the Old West, or the Wild West. As defined by Hine and Faragher, "frontier history tells the story of the creation and defense of communities, the use of the land, the development of markets, and the formation of states." They explain, "It is a tale of conquest, but also one of survival, persistence, and the merging of peoples and cultures that gave birth and continuing life to America."[1] Through treaties with foreign nations and native tribes, political compromise, military conquest, establishment of law and order, building farms, ranches and towns, marking trails and digging mines, and pulling in great migrations of foreigners, the United States expanded from coast to coast fulfilling the dreams of Manifest destiny. As the American frontier passed into history, the myths of the west in fiction and film took firm hold in the imagination of Americans and foreigners alike. America is exceptional in choosing its iconic self-image. "No other nation," says David Murdoch, "has taken a time and place ...

Morgana King sings "Lost, Lonely and Looking For Love"
This is the ORIGINAL Morganafan video of this song. Here's a track of Morgana's from June 1959. It was a demo of a song from the movie "I, Mobster" (aka "The Mobster"). In the movie Jerri Southern appears as a lounge singer and actually sings the song "Lost, Lonely and Looking For Love" and as far as I know never recorded it. The movie stars Steve Cochran as a career gangster and Lita Milan as his dame. So Morgana was connected to Mafia type movies long before her acting role in the Godfather !!!

Ricky Nelson - Travelin Man
1960 • "Travelin' Man" (US Chart #1; UK Chart #2) Imperial 5741 Eric Hilliard Nelson (May 8, 1940 -- December 31, 1985), better known as Ricky Nelson or Rick Nelson, was an American singer-songwriter, instrumentalist, and actor starring in Howard Hawks' Western movie Rio Bravo (1959) with John Wayne and Dean Martin as well as his parents' television series The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet (1952-1966). He placed 53 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1957 and 1973 including "Poor Little Fool", which holds the distinction of being the first #1 song on Billboard magazine's then newly created Hot 100 chart. He recorded nineteen additional top-ten hits, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on January 21, 1987. Nelson began his entertainment career in 1949 playing himself in the radio sitcom series, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, and, in 1952, appeared in his first feature film, Here Come the Nelsons. In 1957, he recorded his first single, debuted as a singer on the television version of the sitcom, and recorded a number one album, Ricky. In 1958, Nelson recorded his first number one single, "Poor Little Fool", and, in 1959, received a Golden Globe "Most Promising Male Newcomer" nomination after starring in Rio Bravo. A few films followed, and, when the television series was cancelled in 1966, Nelson made occasional appearances as a guest star on various television programs. Nelson and Sharon Kristin Harmon were married on April 20, 1963, and ...
