Compiling and configuring the OpenCV library for use with Visual Studio 2010
This video tutorial shows how to build OpenCV with TBB (threading building blocks) support for Visual Studio 2010. When building is finished, I also demonstrate how to configure Visual Studio 2010 so you can compile and run programs that use OpenCV. I used OpenCV 2.1.0 because OpenCV 2.2.0 contains a bug on windows 7 when using the webcam. This is not fixed yet in the downloadable package from the OpenCV website. I hope it helps, Christophe Hesters ( www.toefel.nl ) Download the source code here toefel.nl Face Detection and and Face Recognition using OpenCV is demonstrated here: www.youtube.com

Do You Want to be a Librarian?
This is an open access occupational film about the library profession, and becoming a librarian. It was shot in 1947, and I think it holds up quite well in the world of Web 2.0 and Library 2.0 (hehehe)

Anonymous: #OpAngel, Phase II.
Operation Angel: Phase Two January 16 2013 -- Operation Angel, began by Anonymous in response to the death of Aaron Swartz, successfully accomplished phase one of it's mission by preventing Westboro Baptist Church members from picketing Swartz's funeral. Anonymous is now preparing for a longer and more extensive battle within the US legal system. Aaron Swartz was essential to the progression of the Internet. He was renowned for his role in the development of RSS, Open Library and the creation of Reddit. Instead of capitalizing on his talents solely for personal gain, Aaron chose to dedicate his life to the defense of internet freedom and the preservation of civil liberties. At a time when America's educational system is ranked 17th in the world, he believed that knowledge should be made freely available to all who seek it. Before taking his own life, Aaron was facing up to 35 years in prison for acting on this belief. The charges against Swartz are only one example of malicious prosecution by US Attorney's in a history of unequaled viciousness against those accused of cyber crimes. It is clear that the punishment Swartz faced was not proportional to the crimes of which he was accused. We cannot pretend that our system is just when perpetrators of violence are dealt lighter sentences than those whose alleged crimes are essentially victimless. It is our conclusion that dubious laws such as the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act serve only to provide prosecutors with the means to ...

The focal point of my criticism's the ridiculous decision to bring in a system where you flick a switch and disconnect the internet when it's suspected that intellectual infringement has been detected, even if the relatives they live with definitely didn't. I think it's in your best interest to bin this, yes? 'Cause isn't it a respected institution that we're considered innocent unless different is proven? Er, excuse me - how can you excuse exclusion when you've not pursued a definite conclusion? You're picking on the little man, the Lilliputian; now there's a pain in my gulliver and it's confusing. You're swift to treat your citizens with such little human humour it's no wonder that we're disilliusioned. This resolution's gonna end in revolution just like any other governance that doesn't accept evolution. To be perfectly honest ...

Kanaa Kaanum Kaalangal Kallooriyin Kadhai 04/11/12
Algates' Chithi (Law Minister) comes to the college to open the library with her bodyguards and political build ups and this irritates the Correspondent. TR fan meets Jyothika and ask her to correct a love letter for his girl friend. Jyothika enjoys the letter and say that it's good. He says that the letter is just written for her only. She gets shocked. Bala and Kaathaadi decide to start a Drama Club. They request Saravanan to join the team to write the story and dialogue but he refuses because of his father and this makes them upset. Algates become popular among the students because they have a new and better library now. Harini appreciates him for his immediate action to avoid issues. He teases her by saying, 'all that was happened only because of her by advice, telling him to go to sleep in the library'. Bala and Kaathaadi meet Dhivya and tell her about their idea. She appreciates them and says that she is also interested to take part if they could allow her to be an Acting Coach! Bala and Kaathaadi become happy and inform her that Saravanan is not willing to join. Divya convinces Saravanan and he accepts to join only for her sake.

Save the Troy Library "Adventures In Reverse Psychology"
The city of Troy, Michigan was facing a budget shortfall, and was considering closing the Troy Public Library for lack of funds. Even though the necessary revenues could be raised through a miniscule tax increase, powerful anti-tax groups in the area were organized against it. A vote was scheduled amongst the city's residents, to shut the library or accept the tax increase, and Leo Burnett Detroit decided to support the library by creating a reverse psychology campaign. Yard signs began appearing that read: "Vote to Close Troy Library on August 2nd - Book Burning Party on August 5th." No one wants to be a part of a town that burns books, and the outraged citizens of Troy pushed back against the "idiotic book burners" and ultimately supported the tax increase, thus ensuring the library's survival.

Google I/O 2011: Android Open Accessory API and Development Kit (ADK)
Mike Lockwood, Erik Gilling, Jeff Brown You have always been able to connect an Android device to your computer, but until now there was no way for Android applications to interact with other hardware via USB. In this talk we cover new support in Android 3.1 for USB input devices, as well as new APIs for applications to communicate with peripherals via USB. The APIs support both Android powered devices that act as a conventional USB host, and non-host Android devices that communicates with a new class of USB hosts known as "Android USB Accessories". Cool hardware is involved.
