Muriel Kerr plays Scriabin Etude opus 8 no. 10
Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915) Etude opus 8 no. 10 Piano: Muriel Kerr (1911-1963) Recorded October 31st 1928 Muriel Kerr (1911-1963) was born in Regina, Canada. She began her career at seven, performing a Mozart concerto. She studied with Paul Wells in Toronto, with Alexander Raab in Chicago, and with Percy Grainger. She began lessons with Ernest Hutcheson in 1922 after a Canadian tour and continued with him at the Juilliard School from 1926 to 1931. She made her Carnegie Hall début in 1928 with rachmaninov's Concerto No. 2 with the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra of New York, conducted by Willem Mengelberg. Her Town Hall recital début was in january, 1929. After these succesful débuts she undertook numerous tours of Canada and the United States. She made her first European tour in 1948. She taught at the Juillard School (1942-49) and at the University of Southern California (1955-63). In 1957 she became the director of the Punahou Music School in Honolulu and orgaized an annual festival of contemporary music and art. She recorded very little -- serveral Duo-Art, one ten-inch 78 rmp disc in 1928, and one LP of music by Hindemith and Schumann, recorded in 1951 for a small American label, Hyperion, and reissued on RCA shortly after her untimely death in 1963. The recording of this etude opus 8 no. 10 of Scriabin shows an enormously gifted seventeen-year-old pianist!

Eurovision Song Contest 1969 Ireland
Muriel Day & The Lindsays The Wages of Love 7th place 10 points Muriel Day is an Irish singer. Born in Newtownards, County Down, she was the first singer from Northern Ireland to represent the Republic of Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest. She was also the first woman to perform for Ireland, which had been competing since 1965. After making her name in the Irish showband circuit, and appearing in the British film Billy Liar in 1963, Day was chosen as Ireland's Eurovision contestant with the song "The Wages of Love" in 1969. Though the song was a great hit in Ireland, it only finished seventh internationally, in in a year with four winners. As a result of her performance, however, she was offered the chance to record with Peter Warne, producing the enduring hit "Nine Times out of Ten".After moving to Canada in 1971, where she continued her career, Day eventually took up medicine and became a laser therapist. She returned to Belfast in the 1990s, where she has been performing regularly.

TateShots: Lucy McKenzie in A Bigger Splash
Are these paintings or a stage set? Artist Lucy McKenzie presents us with an elegant room, complete with fake marbling, trompe l'oeil radiators and the scuffs and stains of years of inhabitation. This imaginary room was inspired by Muriel Spark's 1963 novella The Girls of Slender Means, and was used as a back-drop for a recent film. McKenzie talks to TateShots about challenging expectations of what a painting can be. Lucy McKenzie's work is shown in A Bigger Splash, a new exhibiton at Tate Modern that explores the relationship between painting and performance art. Lubov Egorova (1880-1972) -- Assisting Serge Lifar in Class (1963)
Commenting some months ago on my upload 'Serge Lifar - Teaching', Merante87 very kindly informed us that the woman sitting in the background and assisting the maestro was none other than Lubov Egorova and that the footage had been shot in her studio at rue de la Rochefoucauld in Paris. Photographs of the ballerina confirm this identification. As this may well be the only moving picture record of this Russian ballerina, it seemed that a separate upload was in order, particularly as I've just come across another example of this film. Born in St. Petersburg, Lubov Egorova graduated from the Imperial Ballet Academy in 1898 with her classmate Mikhail Fokine. Her progress at the Mariinsky Theatre was slow as Marius Petipa only thought of her a good soloist. Her simplicity and lyricism was not fully appreciated in the climate of extravert virtuosity and she had to wait till 1914 to be promoted to the status of ballerina. Her most important roles were the title role in Petipa's 'Blue Dahlia' (1905), Myrtha in 'Giselle' (1907), the title role in 'Raymonda' (1910), Aurora in 'The Sleeping Beauty' (1911), Odette-Odile in 'Swan Lake' (1913) and the title role in 'Giselle' (1914). She drew the attention of Serge de Diaghilev and, leaving the Mariinsky in 1917, danced many leading roles with the Ballets Russes from 1917-1918, including Aurora in the famed 'The Sleeping Beauty' of 1921. She was partnered by Vaslav Nijinsky of whom she said "He inspired me by urging me to catch up with ...

Skin. Like. Sun. (Des Jours Plus Belles Que La Nuit) - trailer
We all know what sex looks like. Many movies have tried to capture the magic, but most can only bring home the tricks.
This movie allows you to participate where others leave you the unsatisfied peeping tom. It dares to share the slowness.
In a unique twist, this film is edited in real-time. As real-life couple Wim and Floor spend an afternoon in the sunwashed rooms of an old house in Belgium, the camera simply follows.
In the slowness, we get the build, the sweetness, and the sexiness.
Forget about fingersnapping fast editing. Slow is where it’s at.
This film was conceived as a collaboration between Amsterdam-based erotic filmmaker Jennifer Lyon Bell and Belgian artist/DJ/author/lingerie-designer Murielle Scherre, aka La Fille D’O. They created it for the feminist Stout(st)e Dromen Festival in Antwerp, Belgium.
We are thrilled to announce that this film won the Award for "Best Direction" at the Feminist P**n Awards this year.
