Kitchen sink realism (or kitchen sink drama) is a term coined to describe a British cultural movement that developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s in theatre, art, novels, film and television plays, whose protagonists usually could be described as "angry young men" who were disillusioned with modern society. It used a style of social realism, which depicted the domestic situations of working class Britons living in cramped rented accommodation and spending their off-hours drinking in grimy pubs, to explore controversial social issues and political controversies ranging from abortion to homelessness. The harsh, realistic style contrasted sharply with the escapism of the previous generation's so-called "well-made plays".
The films, plays and novels employing this style are set frequently in poorer industrial areas in the North of England, and use the accents and slang heard in those regions. The film It Always Rains on Sunday (1947) is a precursor of the genre, and the John Osborne play Look Back in Anger (1956) is thought of as the first of the genre. The gritty love-triangle of Look Back in Anger, for example, takes place in a cramped, one-room flat in the English Midlands. Shelagh Delaney's 1958 play A Taste of Honey (which was made into a film of the same name in 1961), is about a teenage schoolgirl who has an affair with a black sailor, gets pregnant, and then moves in with a gay male acquaintance, raises issues such as class, race, gender and sexual orientation. The conventions of the genre have continued into the 2000s, finding expression in such television shows as Coronation Street and EastEnders.
Kitchen sink may refer to:
Sir James Wilson Vincent "Jimmy" Savile, OBE, KCSG (/ˈsævəl/, /ˈsævɪl/; 31 October 1926 – 29 October 2011) was an English DJ, television and radio personality, dance hall manager, and charity fundraiser. He hosted the BBC television show Jim'll Fix It, was the first and last presenter of the long-running BBC music chart show Top of the Pops, and raised an estimated £40 million for charities. At the time of his death he was widely praised for his personal qualities and as a fund-raiser. After his death, hundreds of allegations of sexual abuse were made against him, leading the police to believe that Savile was a predatory sex offender—possibly one of Britain's most prolific. There had been allegations during his lifetime, but they were dismissed and accusers ignored or disbelieved; Savile took legal action against some accusers.
Savile was conscripted to work in the coal mines as a Bevin Boy during the Second World War. He began a career playing records in, and later managing, dance halls, and was said to have been the first disc jockey to use twin turntables to keep music in constant play. His media career started as a disc jockey at Radio Luxembourg in 1958 and on Tyne Tees Television in 1960, and he developed a reputation for eccentricity and flamboyance. At the BBC, he presented the first edition of Top of the Pops in 1964 and broadcast on Radio 1 from 1968. From 1975 until 1994, he presented Jim'll Fix It, a popular television programme in which he arranged for the wishes of viewers, mainly children, to come true. During his lifetime, he was noted for fund-raising and supporting charities and hospitals, in particular Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury, Leeds General Infirmary and Broadmoor Hospital in Berkshire. In 2009 he was described by The Guardian as a "prodigious philanthropist" and was honoured for his charity work. He was awarded the OBE in 1971 and was knighted in 1990.

i hope you like it .... Passing time in the afternoon Cleaning the bathroom floor Rearrange things in the dining room Covers the chip on the kitchen door The paperboy winks as he hands her a paper He's cheekier every day She undoes her apron and sinks on the sofa Throws all her household chores away She's in a fantasy It's not so hard to see That she is living a lie She'll never be the same She shuts her eyes again Waves all her worries goodbye Puts on her make-up And smoothes down her dress And finds the right words to say Holds a remaining spark of beauty Escape is only a romance away Troubles come flooding back with her migraine She trembles and shuts her eyes It's a good thing that friends come in little bottles Time to shake up and prepare for the lies ...

Here's late great Frank Mui r- TV Heaven - Circa 1992 - introducing some amusing 1950's British television admags and introducing Kitchen Sink Drama a new type of socially aware drama that first became ;popular in the late 1950's and onwards. Lena Oh My Lena is already up on youtube on another channel. Early consumer 'shoppers guides' known as admags, were basically programmes used to promote commercial products. Because of the way each show was presented they almost appeared as 'public service information' films although all the while they were employing less than subtle techniques to sell certain products, which the manufacturers no doubt paid quite a price to advertise. In spite of this, they were very popular with the British television viewing public as Jo Gable recalled in her book ...

This is a video of the British film that is often regarded as the first "kitchen sink" and "angry young man" drama that came out of Britain in the 60s. Albert Finney, in his first starring role is Arthur Seaton, a young man in working-class Nottingham. By day, he slaves away in a dreary job at a local factory, while by night and weekend he drinks at the local pub, and womanizes, claiming to be anti-establishment. His reckless actions (he...

John Doran meets the critically acclaimed British director and hero of the kitchen-sink drama to explore the motivations and artistic method behind Mike Leigh's classics. Through his films about ordinary people Leigh has a knack for capturing the socio-political zeitgeist of difficult times in British history. Is the apocalyptic nature of Leigh’s early works Bleak Moments, Meantime and Naked more relevant than ever today? Referencing artists and filmmakers such as John Smith, Gregory Crewdson, Janet Cardiff & George Bures Miller, the idea of cinema, its structure, language and sound, is the main area of where the work explores. An idea of a filmic reality, the kitchen sink drama, looking to dismantle domestic with public space, what lies between, making the mundane sublime. Playing with the language of cinema, narrative, dialogue, image, and sound, how this non verbal language is read and understood by its viewer, what are they asking, can it be said without language be it, text on screen or oral...
Newtown Neurotics were based around Harlow, home of Stortbeat Records (released the debut 7" single by Bishop Stortford band The Licks), Urban Decay, The Square, and The Playhouse and of course No Wonder Records. I spent a fair bit of time in Harlow as a youth, a gritty concrete town made infamous as being the location for the 1968 kitchen sink drama 'Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush'. "Another silent newtown problem with no solution in sight" the Neurotics passionately sung on 'Oh No' one of the songs uploaded onto this YouTube post. Other notable towns that Harlow is near to were, Bishops Stortford, a quaint market town with the Triad as the main venue. Welwyn Garden City, with the Ludwick Hall venue, and yet another newtown, Stevenage which housed the wonders of the Bowes Lyon Hou...

Going through the REST of the Vanguard base, and all the way up to the end of this little tutorial section of the game. In true SMT style, the first boss has a simple weakness and immunity, as well as a simple attack pattern and some super attack that exploits YOUR weakness, whereas you have a simple basic magic spell that hits HIS weakness. Also in this game are the shield spells, which can completely negate his super spell and thank hell I randomly decided to do so, because they hurt, although naturally the boss also has his own to negate your basic spell. As for explanations, there's not really much to say gameplay wise, but story wise you might be wondering what Argilla's pink eyes and Heat's read eyes are all about. Well, up until the light shot through the Junkyard and turned ever...
Good morning, America, you're my favourite TV show
Slow down now, I've a headache,
Sometimes it's hard to think,
The phone rings how are you? Oh! I'm not up to much
You don't say, oh really! It'll end... end in tears
Here I go again,
All I have is what I might have been
Where's my long lost friends?
Somewhere over the rainbow
When the dark clouds come,
The angel Valium will call
To take me far away,
To a place where I don't have to feel
I'm happy as I hoover, it's one o'clock, time for lunch
Marshmallows with coffee,
Can't forget my Slimfast drink,
The garden's depressing, I think I need a hair-do
A gin and a tonic, ah! That should do the trick
Here I go again,
All I have is what I might have been
Where's my long lost friends?
Somewhere over the rainbow
When the dark clouds come,
The angel Valium will call
To take me far away,
To a place where I don't have to feel
It's Monday afternoon, the kids are off at school
Sunset Boulevard, the Channel Four matinee
Sit down, relax with a nice cup of tea...
.oh! The sweet smell of butane... and humdrum.
