Introdotto da un ospite d'eccezione, Osvaldo Bevilacqua si recherà in Abruzzo a scoprire le attrattive della storica città di Sulmona, patria del poeta Ovidio e rinomata per i suoi squisiti confetti.Prima di partire infatti Osvaldo incontrerà il noto comico Gabriele Cirilli, che è nato proprio a Sulmona e che nel corso della puntata interverrà per commentare con la sua consueta simpatia alcuni personaggi e alcuni momenti della visita di Sereno Variabile nella sua città natale. Nel corso del suo tour Osvaldo come di consueto sarà affiancato dai tre membri della amichevole giuria, una studentessa, un giornalista della stampa locale e una straniera, che daranno la loro valutazione su tutto quanto visto nel corso della puntata. Dopo aver scambiato quattro chiacchiere nella bottega di un barbiere, Osvaldo visiterà il Museo Diocesano e intervisterà un collezionista che ha raccolto centinaia di cartoline depoca della Vecchia Sulmona. Entrerà poi in un laboratorio per scoprire come nascono i famosi confetti, vero vanto gastronomico della città, leccornie prodotte in mille gusti e mille colori. Uscito dal centro storico, Osvaldo visiterà alcuni suggestivi luoghi legati alla figura di Celestino V, passato alla storia come il Papa del gran rifiuto, come l'Abbazia Celestiniana e l'Eremo di Sant' Onofrio al Morrone. Nelle campagne dei dintorni di Sulmona, nel territorio di Introdacqua, Osvaldo scoprirà una fattoria dove si allevano decine di asinelli, provenienti da diverse regioni d'Italia, che vengono utilizzati per escursioni e a scopo terapeutico. Infine Osvaldo visiterà il laboratorio di sartoria dove vengono preparati i costumi utilizzati dai partecipanti al corteo storico della Giostra Cavalleresca, che ogni anno si svolge nelle strade e nelle piazze della città.

Sulmona
Sulmona (Latin: Sulmo; Greek: Σουλμῶν, Soulmōn) is a city and comune of the province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo, Italy, with 24,854 inhabitants. It is in the Valle Peligna, a plateau once occupied by a lake that disappeared in prehistoric times. In the ancient era, it was one of the most important cities of the Paeligni and is known for being the native town of Ovid, of whom there is a bronze statue in the square known as Piazza XX Settembre located on the town's main road also under his name.
History
Ancient era
Sulmona was one of the principal cities of the Peligni, as an independent tribe, but no notice of it is found in history before the Roman conquest. A tradition alluded to by Ovid and Silius Italicus, which ascribed its foundation to Solymus, a Phrygian and one of the companions of Aeneas, is evidently a mere etymological fiction. The first mention of Sulmo occurs in the Second Punic War, when its territory was ravaged by Hannibal in 211 BC, who, however, did not attack the city itself. Its name is not noticed during the Social War, in which the Paeligni took so prominent a part; but according to Florus, it suffered severely in the subsequent civil war between Sulla and Gaius Marius, having been destroyed by the former as a punishment for allegiance to his rival. The writings of that rhetorical writer are not, however, to be taken literally, and it is more probable that Sulmo was confiscated and its lands assigned by Sulla to a body of his soldiers. In all events it is certain that Sulmo was a well-peopled and considerable town in 49 BC, when it was occupied by Domitius Calvinus with a garrison of seven cohorts; but the citizens, who were favorably inclined towards Julius Caesar, opened their gates to his lieutenant M. Antonius as soon as he presented himself.

Rocca Calascio
Rocca Calascio is a mountaintop fortress or rocca in the Province of L'Aquila in Abruzzo, Italy.
At an elevation of 1,460 metres (4,790 ft), Rocca Calascio is the highest fortress in the Apennines. Built of stone and masonry exclusively for military purposes and intended only to accommodate troops and never as residence for nobles, the fortress overlooks the Plain of Navelli at one of the highest points in the ancient Barony of Carapelle.
Construction of the fortress started in the tenth century as a single watchtower. A walled courtyard with four cylindrical towers at the corners around a taller inner tower was added in the thirteenth century. The lower half of the fortress is built with distinctively larger stones than its upper half. It is believed that this feature was to make its base impenetrable to invaders. The fortress was never tested in battle. However, it was badly damaged in November 1461 by an earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 7 to 8 on the Richter Scale. While the town of Calascio, which lies below the fortress, was rebuilt, the fortress was not.

Nel corso del suo tour Osvaldo come di consueto sarà affiancato dai tre membri della amichevole giuria, una studentessa, un giornalista della stampa locale e una straniera, che daranno la loro valutazione su tutto quanto visto nel corso della puntata. Rocca Calascio: At an elevation of 1,460 metres (4,790 ft), Rocca Calascio is the highest fortress in the Apennines. Built of stone and masonry exclusively for military purposes and intended only to accommodate troops and never as residence for nobles, the fortress overlooks the Plain of Navelli at one of the highest points in the ancient Barony of Carapelle.

Abruzzo is a region in central Italy, its western border lying less than 50 miles (80 km) east of Rome. Abruzzo borders the region of Marche to the north, Lazio to the west and south-west, Molise to the south-east, and the Adriatic Sea to the east. Geographically, it is more of a central than southern region, though ISTAT (the Italian statistical authority) considers it part of Southern Italy, a vestige of Abruzzo's historic association with the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
