"Let Me Entertain You" - Gypsy (1962) dir. Mervyn LeRoy
"Let Me Entertain You" from "Gypsy" (1962) Directed by Mervyn LeRoy Screenplay by Leonard Spigelgass Based on the musical "Gypsy: A Musical Fable" by Arthur Laurents, with music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The musical is based on the 1957 memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee (Rose Louise Hovick), fittingly titled "Gypsy: A Memoir." Starring Rosalind Russell as Rose Hovick and the aptly named Natalie Wood as Louise Hovick (Gypsy Rose Lee). Synopsis: Overbearing stage mother Rose Hovick drags her daughters Louise and June (and an ensemble of singing dancers) across America, playing the same show over and over on the rapidly dying vaudeville circuit. As Rose's fortunes dry up, she pushes Louise into taking an available role as a burlesque dancer, to give her one last time in the spotlight. Louise soon becomes the world renown stiptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee. Scene context: Rose and her company are playing in a burlesque theatre as a ruse to placate the cops. It is the night of their final performance. Realising that the group is all washed up, Rose agrees to a marriage proposal from long time friend Herbie Sommers (Karl Malden). However, it turns out that one of the theatre's strippers has been detained and the manager is desperately seeking a replacement. Rose insists that Louise fill the spot. Herbie threatens to walk out on Rose if she goes through with it. Comment: This was the only scene in the film that evoked any pathos for me. Wood's inadequacies as an actress ...

Gypsy (1962) Trailer
Not my usual type of upload, but I've recently bought the US DVD release of 'Gypsy' starring the late Natalie Wood. I've taken the liberty of uploading the trailer for this glorious, exuberant musical which I think the cinematography is stunning, the vocals uplifting and the visuals bright and colourful and the cast superb. Enjoy :) NOTE - Referring to what happened previously with a hollywood film extract I uploaded of which Viacom didn't approve, I DO NOT own anything in this video so please don't jump to the conclusion of suspending my account, again!!!!

STEVE HAYES: Tired Old Queen at the Movies - GYPSY
GYPSY (1962) Rosalind Russell, Natalie Wood and Karl Malden combine their considerable talents for the 1962 screen adaptation of Jules Stein's and Stephen Sondheim's smash musical GYPSY. Based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, with a book by Arthur Laurents and directed by veteran Mervyn Leroy, GYPSY is a musical standout where every song is a bona fide hit. Roz brings all her brilliant comic technique to the role of Rose, the overbearing show biz mother of all time and is matched by Natalie Wood at her most beautiful and beguiling as Gypsy. It's a loving tribute to vaudeville, burlesque and mother love that will leave you laughing, humming and wanting more. STEVE HAYES: Tired Old Queen At The Movies LIVE! "Movie Stars Sing At Last!" | Dixon Place: Hot Fest WHERE: Dixon Place, 161A Chrystie Street (btwn Rivington & Delancey) DATE: Saturday, August 06, 2011 At 07:30 PM TICKETS: www.ovationtix.com Who was dubbed in movie musicals and why? Happy Camper - Born With A Bothered Mind (featuring Bouke Zoete)
Manfreds holiday leads to a series of awkward camping moments, but that doesn’t spoil the fun, because Manfred is a Happy Camper.
Happy Camper is a music project by Job Roggeveen. He composed an album full of sunny chansons with sultry gypsy sounds. But Job is not the only Happy Camper, eleven singers camp with him and perform his songs.
