Wormwood Scrubs, known locally as The Scrubs (or simply Scrubs), is an open space located in the north-eastern corner of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham in west London. It is the largest open space in the Borough, at 80 ha (200 acres), and one of the largest areas of common land in London. The eastern part, known as Little Wormwood Scrubs, is cut off by Scrubs Lane and the West London Line railway. It has been an open public space since the Wormwood Scrubs Act of 1879.
The southern edge of the Scrubs is the site of two locally important buildings. At the western end is HM Prison Wormwood Scrubs, built between 1875 and 1891 by convict labour. To the east of the prison is the Hammersmith Hospital campus, which includes the relocated Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital.
Within the area are several sports facilities, including the Linford Christie stadium, tens of football pitches and a pony centre. Queens Park Rangers Football Club played on The Scrubs between 1893 and 1896.
Thames News was the flagship regional news programme of Thames Television, serving the Thames ITV region and broadcast on weekdays from 12 September 1977 to 31 December 1992.
The news service was produced and broadcast from Thames TV's headquarters at Euston Road in north-west London and, during its last few years in operation, from district newsrooms in Dartford in Kent, Guildford in Surrey and Watford in Hertfordshire.
Prior to Thames News, the station opted not to provide a conventional local news service in spite of requests from the Independent Television Authority to improve on Rediffusion's scant levels of regional output. Instead, Thames produced Today, a local magazine show presented chiefly on alternating nights by Eamonn Andrews and Bill Grundy. The programme was axed in the summer of 1977, several months after Grundy's infamous on-air interview with The Sex Pistols.
Today was replaced on Monday, 12 September 1977 by Thames at Six, a more conventional news magazine programme, presented by former ITN newscaster Andrew Gardner. The following year saw Thames establish a full strength newsroom, enabling daily coverage of London-specific news for the first time in ITV's history. A lunchtime Thames News bulletin was launched on Tuesday, 5 September 1978 – a late night bulletin, broadcast after News at Ten, was also due to launch on the same day, but was held back until Monday, 28 April 1980 because of union problems. During 1979, the main evening programme was renamed as Thames News.

HM Prison Wormwood Scrubs (informally "The Scrubs") is a Category B men's prison, located in the Wormwood Scrubs area of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, in inner west London, England. The prison is operated by Her Majesty's Prison Service.
The initial steps in the winter of 1874 involved the construction of a small prison made of corrugated iron and a temporary shed to serve as a barracks for the warders. Nine specially picked prisoners, all within a year of release, completed the buildings after which 50 more prisoners were brought in who in turn erected a second temporary prison wing. Building then began on the permanent prison, with bricks being manufactured on site. By the summer of 1875 enough bricks had been prepared to build the prison's first block, whose ground floor was finished as winter began. Construction was completed in 1891.
During World War II the prison was taken over by the War Department and the prisoners evacuated. It was used as secure office space for the duration of hostilities and housed MI5 and MI8.

More than a thousand prisoners at one of London's largest jails have been confined to their cells all day today -- after a walk out by prison officers. Staff at Wormwood Scrubs say they don't feel safe with a growing number of weapons and drugs being smuggled in. Here's our Home Affairs Correspondent Nick Beake.

FILTHY cells littered with broken glass, open toilets, rats and 22 hours indoors sounds like a nightmarish vision from a Charles Dickens novel. But that's the reality for 1258 men in west London's Wormwood Scrubs, an iconic institution that has been slammed in a recent inspection for a dire state of affairs that has inmates high on drugs and fearing for their lives. "Many prisoners spent almost all day, and ate their unappetising meals, doubled up in a dirty, damaged cell with an unscreened toilet. Some prisoners had improvised a toilet screen with a torn sheet and stuffed paper in broken windows to keep out the weather," Her Majesty's chief inspector of prisons Peter Clarke wrote about the site just a stone's throw from some of the city's swankiest homes. "We found two prisoners on ACCTs ...
HM Prison Holloway (sometimes known as Holloway Castle) is a closed category prison for adult women and Young Offenders, located in the Holloway area of the London Borough of Islington, in north and Inner London, England. The prison is operated by Her Majesty's Prison Service.
We reveal further evidence of violence at Pentonville prison - as the search continues for the two men who escaped yesterday. BBC London has been told that six people have been attacked with a blade inside the same wing, in which an inmate was stabbed to death last month. The Prison Officers' Association claims the prison is understaffed and struggling to cope with serious breaches of security. Our Home Affairs Correspondent Nick Beake reports.
A couple who were caught trying to smuggle drugs, alcohol, a knife and mobile phones into Wormwood Scrubs prison were sentenced on Thursday, 29 October at Isleworth Crown Court. For more videos, head over to http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/tv

Audio by The Men of No Property (from their LP 'Ireland - The Fight Goes On' released in 1976 on Resistance Records). The song is about a 1943 escape from the Belfast Prison. The lyrics may well have been written by one of the escapers and was first published in Republican News in March 1943. RR7018B NORTHERN IRELAND: TOURISM There's more to Ulster than the embattled streets of Londonderry or Belfast, as any tourist to the area knows. Northern Ireland has wonderful scenery, excellent facilities for open-air pursuits such as hunting, shooting or fishing, and, above all, wide open spaces. This report comes from County Fermanagh, in the western part of the province, home of the beautiful Erne waterway. With more energetic pro motion, areas like this could do as much for the Northern Ireland economy as any manufacturing industry. But tourist earnings for last year were badly hit by the riots, and they will no doubt continue to suffer as long as the political situation remains explosive. A jury system dates back to 5th Century BCE Ancient Greece, where members of the Boule, or Council (and other institutions, such as judicial courts) were selected from the male citizenry by lot. This process had two distinct advantages: Firstly, all citizens were considered, for socio-political purposes to be fundamentally equal, and, secondly, the process prevents corruption. The Boule (and hence the jury) were at the core of the original Athenian Democracy. In the modern era, the word is mostly understood as reference to a sworn body of people convened to render an impartial verdict (a finding of fact on a question) officially submitted to them by a court, or to set a penalty or judgment. Modern juries tend to be found in courts to ascertain the guilt, or lack thereof, in a crime. In Ang...

This video is imbedded on "Fun Tourist Attractions" website: http://www.funtouristattractions.com/a/manchester-museum-manchester-england/1265 Information: A video I filmed whilst I visited the Manchester Museum, I found editing the video the way I did more interesting that just leaving as it originally was. The museum has many interesting things, some stuff I could not film due to certain areas being closed because to maintenance. My only wish was that I did not forget my polarizing filter at the time of filming, I totally forgot that there will be loads of reflective glass cases, but, I know now to bring one. I also wish I could bring a tripod, but I am not sure how the museum staff will react to it. For those who can, I recommend visiting the museum, its very interesting....

North Kensington is an area of west London, north of Notting Hill and south of Kensal Green. The Grand Union Canal is the official boundary between Kensal Green and North Kensington. The borders between North Kensington and Notting Hill are a little less clear,, but residents generally see the Westway flyover as the boundary. The names North Kensington and Ladbroke Grove are used interchangeably to describe the same area. North Kensington is where most of the violence of the Notting Hill race riots of 1958 occurred and where the Notting Hill Carnival started, despite North Kensington and Notting Hill being separate areas. The area's main transport hub, Ladbroke Grove tube station, was originally called Notting Hill from its opening in 1864 until 1880, and Notting Hill & Ladbroke Grove ...
