American Songwriter Live: honeyhoney
Honeyhoney, the latest band signed to Lost Highway Records, stopped by our offices recently to play a few songs from their new album Billy Jack. The charming duo of Suzanne Santo and Ben Jaffe treated us to three tunes, including a rousing cover of "Lost Highway," the country classic written by Leon Payne and popularized by Hank Williams a year later. Willie Dixon - Spoonful.wmv
As one of the greatest American songwriters of all times, Willie James Dixon was a bright, self-confident, determined, intelligent, and gifted man who helped the blues evolve from the 1940's through the 1980's. Born the seventh of Willie Dixonfourteen children on July 1, 1915, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Dixon was greatly influenced by his mother, Daisy, who turned everything she said into rhymes, and Willie learned to do the same. However, his first real musical influence came at the age of seven when he often left school to follow a truck pulling a band behind it starring pianist Little Brother Montgomery. (Snowden 1). As a youth, Dixon sang with the Union Jubilee singers, a gospel quartet with its own radio program. At the age of seventeen, Dixon left his hometown of Vicksburg for the busy streets of Chicago to become a boxer. One year later he was named the Illinois State Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion. Although he had early success as a boxer, he only fought four fights during his pro career because of a money dispute with his manager, which ended whatever dreams Dixon may have had as a boxer. After boxing, he began his musical career by forming the Five Breezes in 1940 with Leonard "Baby Doo" Caston. They recorded songs until 1941 when Willie was arrested for refusing to serve in the US Armed Forces. After finishing his sentence, Dixon formed a new group, the Four Jumps of Jive, which mainly performed in Chicago clubs and later recorded for Mercury (Perry 1-2 ...

William Fitzsimmons - Beautiful Girl /// Berlin Sessions #24
William Fitzsimmons - "Beautiful Girl" Artist: williamfitzsimmons.com Location www.astra-berlin.de There are a lot of stories to tell about American songwriter William Fitzsimmons. Let's start with the obvious US television loves this beardy multi-instrumentalist. His music was used by programmes such as One Tree Hill, Greek, Brothers & Sisters, Army Wives and, most prominently, Grey's Anatomy. His popularity with American TV might be down to the fact that Fitzsimmons tells intimate tales of his own psyche. His music is always part psycho-therapy - for himself and his listeners. Nat "King" Cole "Autumn Leaves"
Nat King Cole's rendition of this classic song. "Autumn Leaves" is a much-recorded popular song. Originally a 1945 French song "Les feuilles mortes" (literally "Dead Leaves") with music by Joseph Kosma and lyrics by poet Jacques Prévert, English lyrics were written in 1947 by the American songwriter Johnny Mercer. It has become a pop standard and a jazz standard in both languages, and as an instrumental. "Les feuilles mortes" was introduced by Yves Montand in 1946 for the film Les Portes de la Nuit. The film Autumn Leaves (1956) starring Joan Crawford featured the song, which was sung by Nat King Cole over the title sequence. The French songwriter Serge Gainsbourg wrote "La chanson de Prévert" as a tribute to this song
