.223 Hornady VMAX 55 gr Varmint Express at 200 and 300 Yards (HD)

Shooting groups at 200 and 300 yards with a .223 Bushmaster Varminter AR15. Target cam also setup for picture-in-picture (PIP) effect. This cartridge has the potential to be VERY accurate for a factory round....I just needed a better benchrest for these shots, in particular at 300 yards. Nonetheless, you'll get an idea as to potential accuracy. Also popped some water jugs at end of the video; slow-motion included. What more can you ask for....AR15, long distance shooting, steel targets, water jugs, HD, picture in picture, slow-motion, etc. Viewable in 1920 x 1080 HD if you have the bandwidth. With the HD, you can clearly see the bullet trail on the 300 yard shots. This was a technically difficult video to put together, considering the use of two cameras at times (my first attempt at this), and the editing. The shot sequences are as well-merged as I can get down to 1/100th of a second. Obviously, at greater distances, there is a delay on the target confirmation, and rifle report from the target camera. SAFETY NOTE: Not that I'm required to mention it, but based on comments from other videos, some people fail to grasp the concept of private property. This is a modest tract of land in the family. Targets were on a hillside. Downrange and surrounding, there are thousands of acres of uninhabited property belonging to other landowners. 210 YARDS BALLISTICS GEL TEST: .223 Hornady Superformance Varmint V-MAX

Ballistics gel test at a laser-measured 210 yards with the .223 Remington Hornady Superformance Varmint V-MAX, 53 grain. What better method for evaluating the performance of varmint ammo than at typical varmint hunting distances? Test rifle is the Bushmaster Varminter, 24" barrel. Brief pre-shot review, followed by full review of the bullet track, etc. from the 210 yard shot. I am using SIM-TEST Ballistic Testing Media, calibrated to the same specs as ordinance gelatin. Filmed on remote private property with an ample backstop. I was the only person in the vicinity during this session. Review and shooting test of the .223 ZOMBIE MAX ammo from Hornady. Video includes 100-200 yard shooting, plus some ballistic gel. This format is more light-hearted than my other ammo tests, given the marketing aspect of this ammo. Test rifle is the AR15 Bushmaster Varminter, 24" barrel. Scope is a Leupold 4.5-14x50. This is sighted for 200 yards and that setting was used for the 170 yard shots. Two clicks down for the 100 yard shot. FYI for the possible "safety sallies".....please note the annotation at 6:24. I was the only person "on the set" and in the vicinity during the video. Stupid and/or inaccurate presumptive comments will be removed. According to the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufactures' Institute (SAAMI) It is dangerous to shoot a 5.56x45 NATO in a gun chambered in the sporting round of .223 Rem. This is not something new they stated this warning more than 25 years ago, and it still stands. I know there are those out there that will claim that they have fired 5.56 in their 223 all the time with no problem, but it's a risk I'm not willing to take. Watching bullets break the sound barrier, times three; at distances of 200 and 300 yards. The greatest majority of shooting shown here was at 300 yards. Camera was positioned behind and slightly above the shooting setup, and zoomed at various degrees for each segment. Beginning at 1:38, the final three segments are at normal speed....I just kicked it up a few notches on the trigger! Also, I plan to try this again at 500 yards or longer.....in an open field. Viewable in 1920 x 1080 HD if you have the bandwidth. By choosing the 720HD or 1080HD view settings, you can best see the bullet trails. EQUIPMENT: AR15 Bushmaster Varminter, .223 Remington, 24" barrel with 1:9 twist. Fiocchi 55 gr FMJ. Scope is a Leupold Mark III, 4.5 x 14 x 50mm. Target is an 8" x 16" steel popper from Mike Gibson Targets. The steel is 3/8' thick, 500 Brinnel. The bullets disintegrate and have minimal if any impact on the steel. Evaluation of the Hornady TAP 75 grain load for .223 Remington. Includes shooting groups on steel at a laser-measured 100 and 200 yards (showing scope perspective at 200), and water jug test at 100 yards. Platform is the AR15 Bushmaster Varminter with 24" barrel. Chronographed velocity from this rifle was 2780 fps, slightly lower than Hornady's published velocity (2790 fps and test barrel length not revealed)....but impressive for this bullet weight/caliber combination. Although it really isn't marketed as such, this load would probably perform well on coyotes and other large varmints. This is definitely one of my favorite "heavier" loads for .223 Remington.

I upgraded the basic iron sights with the Eotech 553 A65 Holographic Weapon Sight (amzn.to SU-231/PEQ (M553) A65Blk Night Vision Scope Compatible (553.A65/1) Options: 553.A65BLK KIT - L3 EOTech 553 Black Finish w/ Scopecoat Sight Cover & 2 SureFire Lithium Batteries Model It is loaded with two magazines bolted together loaded with 28 rounds each of Honady TAP. I also installed backup iron sights that flip-up and lock with a release button on the side. I would like to get a different hand rail system so I can attach a tactical flashlight. I would also like to get the new EOTech HUD (amzn.to that allows you to use a 3x scope (amzn.to that flips to the side with not needed. I have the Blackhawk Single Point Sling (amzn.to that is a bungee type material. I have a total of 10 30 round magazines kept in a tactical vest. Other items kept in the vest are shotgun shells for the Mossberg 500, extra CR123 batteries (amzn.to for the EOtech HUD and flashlights.
