11 The Fatimid Dynasty in Egypt & the return of Europe
www.youtube.com Historian Basil Davidson looks at the splendour of Old Cairo under the Shia Fatimid dynasty. He details how the return of Europe to prominance following its long period of backwardness and slumber (aka the Dark Ages) was founded upon the economic stability of Afria - as seen in the fact that European gold coins were mindted in African gold. We also see how Euroepan Renaissance art depicted Africans as dignified equals, much as the ancient Greeks had. www.lincoln.edu

Fatimids Glory of Shi'a Arab
The Fatimid Caliphate or al-Fātimiyyūn (Arabic الفاطميون) was an Arab Shi'a dynasty that ruled over varying areas of the Maghreb, Egypt, Sicily and the Levant from 5 January 909 to 1171. It was the fourth and final Arab caliphate. The caliphate was ruled by the Fatimids, who established the Egyptian city of Cairo as their capital. The term Fatimite is sometimes used to refer to the citizens of this caliphate. The ruling elite of the state belonged to the Ismaili branch of Shi'ism. The leaders of the dynasty were also Shia Ismaili Imams, hence, they had a religious significance to Ismaili Muslims. They are also part of the chain of holders of the office of Caliph, as recognized by most Muslims, the only period in which the Shia Imamate and the Caliphate were united to any degree, excepting the Caliphate of Ali himself. With exceptions, the Fatimids were reputed to exercise a degree of religious tolerance towards non-Shi'a sects of Islam as well as towards Jews, Maltese Christians and Coptic Christians.

M2TW/Bellum Crucis 6.3: Romans of Byzantium vs Arabs/Egyptians of the Fatimid Caliphate
IF YOU WISH TO SKIP THE SHOWING OF UNITS & GO STRAIGHT TO THE BATTLE JUST SKIP TO 6:00 This custom battle is the second one i played to check the units right after i edited the number of men per unit of almost all units in all factions, i only left as small units those like Greek firethrowers, naffatun, hashishin etc. I increased all medium & light infantry units to 152 per unit & the heavy infantry units to 122 per unit, because some had less & others had lesser. The cavalry units, i made them all evenly 82 per unit, cos some were less & some had more. I gave the Roman officers red boots with yellow double headed eagle & changed the cloak from plain brown to that red with many small yellow double headed eagles, took it from the varangian captain textures in the same mod. So this is just a custom battle to check this but its turned out to be a fast fought but intresting battle in which the fatimids, although fought well were destroyed. The Holy Roman Empire vs the Abbasid Caliphate custom battle is next.

Islamic art goes on sale at Christie's
400 pieces of extremely rare Islamic and Indian art went to auction through Christie's, London in October 2008. The auction fetched over £10 million but it also offered members of the public a chance to see items that are normally hidden away in private collections. The main attraction was a thousand year old ewer carved from a single piece of rock crystal. It is one of only seven of its kind known in the world. But earlier in the year, it was mistaken for a cheap French claret pitcher and valued at a mere US$350. Later however, it was discovered that the slim-necked vessel was made for the court of the Cairo-based Fatimid dynasty, which ruled a large part of the Middle East and North Africa between the 10th and 12th Century. The ewer is worth almost US$5.3 million.

Crusader States 10 Medieval II 2 Total War Stainless Steel Let's Play
Two titans clash in Al Aqaba, a bloody battle that settles no score as both the Fatimid Caliph and Crusader King lie dead. Despite tragedy, we have won the day, and move on somberly toward the ultimate goal of Cairo. News travels quickly, and before the siege of Cairo, Prince Baudouini is crowned King. His battle is far less bloody, far cleaner and convincing, and he sits upon the former Caliph's throne as the new day dawns. ================================= programs used: M2TW SS 6.4 Fraps 3.2.2 VirtualDub 1.9.2 CoolEdit Pro 2.1

Cairo- Al-Azhar Mosque (Pt-1).avi
Al-Azhar Squire is called Islamic Cairo because of magnificent mosques of Al-Azhar, Al-Hussain, Al-Ghauri, Al-Hakim, Al-Azhar University and renowned bazaar "Sauq Khan Al-Khalili", adjacent to Al-Hussain Mosque. Al-Azhar is one of the oldest Universities in the world. Fatimid Caliph Muizudin got Al-Azhar Mosque built in 972AD. It was called Jamia al Mansoria in the beginning. Later Fatmid Caliph al-Aziz Billah named this mosque as Masjid Al-Azhar in 988 after the name of Bibi Fatima Zahra, the daughter of holy prophet Mohammad (PBUH) when it was formally established as Islamic University.

Night At Al-Hakim
A short clip taken in Al-Hakim Mosque ( en.wikipedia.org ) at night using a Canon Powershot A610. The clip has been shot by Ahmad Eddeeb. The al-Hakim Mosque is a major Islamic religious site in Cairo, Egypt. It is located in "Islamic Cairo", on the east side of Muizz Street, just south of Bab Al-Futuh (the northern gate). It is named after Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah (985-1021), the sixth Fatimid caliph and the first to be born in Egypt. The Mosque was originally built as an enclosure by the Fatimid vizier Gawhar Al-Siqilli (c.928-992), but was incorporated into the extended fortifications built by Badr al-Gamali. It consists of an irregular rectangle with four arcades surrounding the courtyard. An unusual feature is the monumental entrance with its projecting stone porch. The most spectacular feature of the mosque are the minarets on either side of the facade, reminiscent of the propylon to a pharaonic temple. Originally the two minarets stood independent of the brick walls at the corners. These are the earliest surviving minarets in the city and they have been restored at various times during their history. The massive salients were added in 1010 to strengthen their structure, and the northern minaret was incorporated into the city wall. Inside, these strange structures are hollow, for they have been built around the original minarets, which are connected with brackets and can still be seen from the minaret above.

Medieval 2 Total War Abassid attacked by Fatimid
M2TW:K Stainless Steel 6.4 + Historical Units Buildings Regions 0.3.1 submod + Soulson CAI 1.6 + Germanicu5 BAI 5.04 Early Campaign VH/H I'm playing Abassid has been long at war with Fatimid... I've captured Tarabulus some time ago and now it's the 2nd time they tried to take it back :D as you can see these islamic units already using Broken Crescent units and skins (from HURB submod), then adjusted with Real Combat 2.0 (unofficial), I think there's some bug with HURB submod but it's not really gamebreaking, a fair trade with the features it offers :) AI still suck at besieging, hopefully I can record more awesome field battles.... I love this game, one of the very few games that I can still enjoy after many years due to gameplay, setting and mods :)
