Harworth is a small town in the county of Nottinghamshire, East Midlands of England, United Kingdom. It is approximately 8 miles (13 km) north of Worksop. Together with the neighbouring mining town of Bircotes, it forms the civil parish of Harworth and Bircotes, with a combined population of nearly 8,000 residents. The settlements are part of the modern district of Bassetlaw, which combined the district of Worksop and the district of Retford.
The Harworth coal mine produced coal for the power stations on the River Trent until it was 'mothballed' in 2003.
The town's name is from Old English har "grey" (compare modern hoary") and worth (also worō, worþ) "enclosure". The name was recorded as Herwirth in 1136.
The town — once a busy coalmining community — is particularly noteworthy as the home of Tom Simpson (1937-1967), one of Britain's greatest road racing cyclist — World Champion in 1965. Tom began his cycling career as a club member at Harworth and District Cycling Club. After his death in France, the body was brought back to Nottinghamshire and interred in Harworth's cemetery. A small museum dedicated to his achievements (opened in August 2001) can be found in the Harworth and Bircotes sports and social club.
A short montage of Harworth Colliery featuring its towers, in which number one tower stood proud as Nottinghamshire's tallest building at 80m tall until its demolition on the 11th of April 2016. Built between 1986 and 1989 it was the tallest mining tower in Europe and housed the largest and most powerful winding motor in UK mining history at a huge 4000kw. The tower was built using the UK's first 'slipform' method which used a continuous supply of concrete and would be built non-stop rising at one inch every 24 hours. The same method was later used to build Wembley Stadium in London and Cottam power station chimneys. On the 10th of April 2016, a controlled explosion failed to demolish her after hundreds of current and former Harworth & Bircotes residents and ex-miners braved the morning co...

http://WorldsMostExtremeZipline.com/ Cold War Era Escape Story. This Most Unique Conquest Of Iron Curtain Was Done By Zip Lining On The 380 kV Power Line Coming Out Of A Nuclear Power Plant. Imagine Doing That During Severe Rain Storm. In July 1986 a twenty-year-old Zdenek (Daniel) Pohl and his friend, thirty-five-year-old Marcus, came up with, and executed what many believe to be the most creative and daring escape in the world. They did the unthinkable. You surely can call this one: “Extreme Zip Lining!” During high wind, and severe rainstorm, they zip lined on 380 000V power line out of a nuclear power plant from Czech Republic, formally known as (Communist) Czechoslovakia, over the Iron Curtain, into Austria. While back home in Czech, perplexed authorities demonized them, in Wester...

I met them first on their wedding night
Faces were flushed by their pledges plight
We passed in the hall and I met them well
But as their carriage arrived, I found that I couldn't quite tell them
It's not very far from tears to mirth
There are not many moments that will capture your breath
It's not very long that you spend on this earth
She'd never know just what Harry was worth
She'll never know
He walked the wet sands of summertime
Rain beat the window in drummertime
Cruel with his humour
She was quick with her tongue
But though a year had passed
The honeymoon didn't last
Somehow they didn't seem young
It's not very far from tears to mirth
There are not many moments that will capture your breath
It's not very long that you spend on this earth
She'd never know just what Harry was worth
She'll never know
They're on their holidays
But they still find a reason to fight
No matter how long they stay
Can't make the rest of the year right
Five years had passed 'til I happened along
He said, "Do you hear that noise? Well, that once was our song"
I looked in her eyes and saw barely a spark
He laughed too loud then he drank until dark
It's not very far from tears to mirth
It's not many moments that will capture your breath
It's not very long that you spend on this earth
She'd never know just what Harry was worth
She'll never know what Harry was worth
She'll never know what Harry was worth
No, she'll never know what Harry was worth
She'll never know what Harry was worth
No, she'll never know what Harry was worth
