Vincent Leonard Price, Jr. (May 27, 1911 – October 25, 1993) was an American actor, well known for his distinctive voice and performances in horror films. His career spanned other genres, including film noir, drama, mystery, thriller, and comedy. He appeared on stage, television, radio, and in over one hundred films. He has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: one for motion pictures, and one for television.
Price was an art collector and consultant, with a degree in art history. He lectured and wrote books on the subject. He was the founder of the Vincent Price Art Museum in California.
Price was born in St. Louis, Missouri, the youngest of the four children of Vincent Leonard Price, Sr. (1871-1948), president of the National Candy Company, and his wife Marguerite Cobb (née Wilcox) Price (1874-1946). His grandfather, Vincent Clarence Price, invented "Dr. Price's Baking Powder", the first cream of tartar based baking powder, and secured the family's fortune. Price was a descendant of Peregrine White, a first born child in Colonial Massachusetts.
Roger William Corman (born April 5, 1926) is an American independent film producer, director and actor. He has been called The Pope of Pop Cinema, and is known as a trail blazer in the world of independent film. Much of Corman's work has an established critical reputation, such as his cycle of low budget cult films adapted from the tales of Edgar Allan Poe. Admired by members of the French New Wave and Cahiers du cinéma, in 1964 Corman was the youngest filmmaker to have a retrospective at the Cinémathèque Française, as well as the British Film Institute and the Museum of Modern Art. In 2009, he was awarded an Honorary Academy Award.
Corman mentored and gave a start to many young film directors such as Francis Ford Coppola, Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese and James Cameron. He helped launch the careers of actors Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson.
Corman has occasionally taken minor acting roles in the films of directors who started with him, including The Silence of the Lambs, The Godfather Part II, Apollo 13, The Manchurian Candidate and Philadelphia. A documentary about Corman's life and career entitled Corman's World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel premiered at Sundance and Cannes Film Festivals in 2011, directed by Alex Stapleton. The film's TV rights were picked up by A&E IndieFilms after a well-received screening at Sundance.
I've been thinking about doing this for quite a long time. And now, having given it my best shot, it occurs to me that any self-respecting fan of the horror genre would've doubtless made some different choices. Admittedly, there are some notable names / faces rather conspicuously absent from this line-up. That being said, there also happen to be quite a staggering number of actresses present who've -- whether they like(d) it or not -- made their own significant mark within the horror genre, and upon the macabre imagination of at least one dyed-in-the-wool classic / contemporary horror fan. If I were pressed further for a proper description, I suppose this would have to be my own personal "essentials" list. Somehow, I suspect there are a number of others lurking around out there in cybers...
Thanks to everybody whom has gone to the trouble of leaving such wonderful comments on these recent uploads of mine. As yet, I haven't quite given in to the whole Google thing. However, you never know how long I'll be able to hold out on that particular front. It should be pointed out that many of the actresses showcased here weren't only known for their work in the horror genre. It's just that those were the films which tended to stick within my warped mind. Original music by G. F. Watkins. This is such a good scene featuring Vincent Price, Mark Damon and Myrna Fahey. Here you see just how beautiful those old Technicolor movies looked. And the women of yesteryear hold a beauty that is all but lost nowadays. I posted this scene because I particularly love how Myrna Fahey looks. Her presence in this scene with Vincent Price is powerful and elegant. The movie can be found on DVD in the MGM Midnite Movies Library! Enjoy the clip!
