Motorcycle racing (also called moto racing and bike racing) is the motorcycle sport of racing motorcycles. Major genres include road racing and off road racing, both either on circuits or open courses, and track racing. Other categories include hill climbs, drag racing and land speed record trials.
The FIM classifies motorcycle racing in the following four main categories. Each category has several sub categories.
Road racing is the sport of racing motorcycles on hard surfaces resembling roads, usually paved with tarmac. Races can take place either on purpose-built racing circuits or on closed public roads.
Historically, "road racing" meant a course on closed public road. This was once commonplace but currently only a few such circuits have survived, mostly in Europe. Races take place on publics roads which have been temporarily closed to the public by legal orders from the local legislature. Two championships exist, the first is the International Road Racing Championship, the other is the Duke Road Racing Rankings. The latter accounts for the majority of road races that take place each season, with an award for the highest placed rider. Prominent road races include the Isle of Man TT, North West 200 and the Ulster Grand Prix. Ireland has many road racing circuits still in use. Other countries with road races are the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, New Zealand and Macau.
The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) was founded in 1971 and is a long-standing member of the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and the Federation International de l’Automobile (FIA), the world bodies for 2/3 and 4 wheeler motor sport respectively. The FMSCI is the only national motor sport federation recognised by the Government of India for the promotion and control of motor sport in India, and is affiliated to the prestigious Indian Olympic Association. The FMSCI is affiliated to the Asian Motorcycle Union (UAM), the Continental Asian wing of the FIM. Having been the ASN of the FIA since its inception but for a few years in between, FMSCI now looks forward to stability and growth of Motorsport in the country. It has been the FMN of the FIM uninterrupted for the last three decades.
Over the years, it has involved leading business corporates like JK Tyres, MRF, Indian Oil Corporation, ITC, the UB Group, McDowell, Birla Tyres, Popular Automobiles, Ceat Tyres, AVT, Goodyear, Maruti, TVS, Escorts Yamaha, Hero Honda, actively in motor sport, which has benefited the sport immensely. Furthermore, it has brought almost all the major four & two wheeler manufacturers within the fold of motor sport by “ homologating” their vehicles, the technical registration of the vehicle with regard to its gearbox, suspension, etc., to ensure a level playing field in national competitions.

While this video premiered at the Times Auto Show at Pune on 2nd October it was mainly made at the behest of FMSCI (Federation of MotorSports Club of India) and was screened at the 2011 National Championship Awards ceremony at the GRT Grand Convention Centre, Chennai. The video garnered overwhelming response from riders, racers and factory teams and we were glad to have bid adieu to every racer in person. This video also features no1 and no2 champions of year 2011 duking it out for one whole lap as well as the first race-appearance of the new 2011 Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0 in the hands of Indian expert riders. We look forward to 2012 racing season with bated breath.
