KATHMANDU SIGHTSEEING TOURS -- VISITING NEPAL | Juergen Schreiter in Nepal - Kathmandu City Tours - Kathmandu Travel | Kathmandu is an exhilarating shock - the sights, sounds and smells can quickly lead to sensory overload. Kathmandu has been a travellers mecca since the 1960s but these days you're less likely to see a tie-dyed hippy in search of enlightenment than a well-heeled Gore-Tex-clad tourist in search of a good espresso. Kathmandu (Nepali: काठमांडौ [kɑʈʰmɑɳɖu]; Nepal Bhasa: येँ देय्) is the capital and, with more than one million inhabitants, the largest metropolitan city of Nepal. The city is the urban core of the Kathmandu Valley in the Himalayas, which contains two sister cities: Lalitpur (Patan), 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) to its south and Bhaktapur or Bhadgaon, 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) to its east, and a number of smaller towns. It is also acronymed as 'KTM' and named 'tri-city'. In the last census (2001), the city of Kathmandu had 671846 inhabitants. Population estimates for 2005 were 790612 for 2010 they stood at 989273 and 2012 at 1006656 The municipal area is (50.67 square kilometres (19.56 sq mi)) and the population density is 19500 per km². The city stands at an elevation of approximately 1400 metres (4600 ft) in the bowl-shaped valley in central Nepal surrounded by four major mountains: Shivapuri, Phulchoki, Nagarjun and Chandragiri. Kathmandu valley is part of three districts, Kathmandu District, Lalitpur District and Bhaktapur District, with ...

Let's declare Nepal's Himalayas - PLASTIC FREE ZONES
The Great Himalayas are the pride of the world. Many tourists flock to Nepal during the peak tourist season to trek the himali trails. The mineral water bottles, plastic bags they carry there are polluting the pristine environment. So the local people of Chomrong have set an example to stop the pollution by banning the use of PET bottles and plastic bags in their region. Other trekking routes are quickly following their example. Now there is a pledge to make it national campaign. Declaring the himalayas a plastic free zone.

Now a concrete jungle Kathmandu is the largest Metropolitan city of Nepal. Seen in this clip is the famous clock tower, better known as the Ghanta Ghar. The original clock tower was designed after the Big Ben of London, as Western influence crept into Nepalese architecture during the Rana era. It was built by the then Rana Prime Minister Shree Teen Maharaja Chandra Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana. Earthquake zone " Nepal " Most at Risk ?
"If you are building a house, make sure your engineer follows earthquake resistant methods, "Nepal lies in fifth vulnerable zone of earthquake which means it is in high risk. There is possibility that Nepal could face great Richter earthquake in future and condition here will be more pathetic than Haiti. "Our capital Kathmandu is one of the most vulnerable urban areas due to unmanaged, unplanned and unsystematic city settlement. Due to the haphazard settlement, there is no way out to rescue people aftermath. People here will die more not because of the seismic activity rather they will die more for not getting rescue facility. More than 100000 people will die in Kathmandu only due to unmanaged city plan. There are 30 bridges in Kathmandu city, and 20 of them are in condition to collapse if earthquake measuring around 7 on the Richter scale jolts the capital. The study done by National Society For Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) in2000. However, realizing this risk and to reduce it, the Nepali government has promulgated "Building Code" law that makes it mandatory for citizens in all 58 municipalities and 20 village development committee to apply quake resistant methods while building their houses. Miss Nepal 2009 - Zenisha's Project
Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.- Mother Teresa. Miss Nepal 2009 Zenisha Moktan believes in these words and that is why she is up on her heels to make sure that she can bring smiles on the faces of people across Nepal. No, this is not any Hidden Treasures assignment that she has to complete; its all Moktans personal initiative. Project Muskan, Moktans new initiative begins today from Rasuwa. A smile on a face is more precious than anything else, she smiled as she spoke of her project and added, This is not a huge project registered by any NGOs or INGOs. Some two months back I thought of giving something to our society from my side as the reigning Miss Nepal. I couldnt think of anything better than smiling at people and making them smile. Since then she has moved ahead, strong-willed to make her project a reality. To collect funds to start her project in Rasuwa, Moktan, with a few friends, distributed roses to people at Tundikhel during the Lhosar celebration a few weeks ago. We succeeded in collecting some thirty thousand rupees. Were using this money to start my project from today, Moktan explained. Project Muskaan will travel to 14 districts across the 14 zones of Nepal, starting tomorrow from Rasuwa in Bagmati zone. During the travels, Zenisha along with her friends, will visit remote villages of Nepal and will hold interaction programs with children and youth. Im planning to donate some stationery ...

DISCOVERY OF HEPATITIS E The epidemic non-A, non-B hepatitis 25 years later. Prof. Mohammad Sultan Khuroo, MD, DM, FRCP (Edin.), FACP, Master American College of Physicians (Emeritus), Director Digestive Diseases Centre, Dr. Khuroo's Medical Clinic, Srinagar, Kashmir, India, E-mail: khuroo@drkhuroo.org; Website: www.drkhuroo.com Hepatitis E is one of the most important emerging infectious diseases. The disease was first recognized during an epidemic, which occurred in Kashmir valley in 1978. Since then, a lot of water has flown down the Jhelum River, the vehicle which had carried the infectious agent causing estimated 52000 cases of hepatitis with 1650 cases of fulminant hepatic failure and 1560 deaths. In this presentation, I shall recollect the events of past 25 years; review the challenges of today and look forward to future of hepatitis E. Transmission of the agent in a human volunteer was an extreme example for zest for knowledge and to uncover the truths of nature. Following this, excellent transmission studies of the agent in Cynomolgus established the biophysical properties of the agent. Cloning and sequencing of the agent had to wait for few years and was subsequently performed in 1990. Soon ELISA test was developed for the diagnosis of HEV infection. Following this excellent epidemiology studies on disease and molecular studies on the agent have been performed by a number of highly dedicated groups from a number of centers in the World. When Maha Manjushri a saint from China heard about this he came rushing all the way from China to the Valley. He cut through the southern wall hill of the valley with his divine sword. 10 Facts about Limbu people of Nepal
The Yakthung or Limbu tribes and clans belong to the Kirati nation or to the Kirat confederation. They are indigenous to the hill and mountainous regions of east Nepal between the Arun and Mechi rivers to as far as Southern Tibet, Bhutan and Sikkim. The name Limbu is an exonym of an uncertain origin. The word Limbu roughly translates as an archer or 'the bearer of bows and arrows'. They call themselves Yakthumba/Yakthung (in Limbu language). They are also known as Shong, Xong or Drenjongka དརེན་འཛང་ཀ་ (in Tibet) or Chong, Tsong འསང་ in (Sikkim). Limbu Clans and Tribes are divided into the Lhasa gotra (from Lhasa, Tibet) and Yunan gotra (from Yunan, China). The Limbu are known as Yakthung Thi-bon or Des Limbu (ten Limbu), from which thirteen Limbu sub-groups have emerged. According to legend, five of the groups came from Yunan, China and the other eight from Lhasa, Tibet.
