The 1948 Israeli War of Independence
The 1948 Israeli War of Independence began when the United Nations decided to partition Palestine into separated Jewish and Arab states. The Arabs were not staisfied with the deal, as they wanted Palestine to be for Arabs only. They said that they would "fight for every inch of our country." Riots ensued almost immediately after the Partition Plan was approved. Arabs were able to take over many British military bases, and used the weaponry they acquired to launch attacks on Jewish communities. Jewish militias fought back, and after the British left Palestine, Israel was declared a state. The 1948 War of Independence was a conflict that was instigated by the proposition of a compromise. For that reason, the topic is consistent with the theme of "Conflict and Compromise," though the order in which the two take lace in my topic is not identical to the order of the2007-2008 National History Day theme. The compromise occurred before the conflict.

Part 1 of 2. If you like "golden TV oldies", you should enjoy this 2-part YouTube series, which takes us back to the very earliest days of television -- 1948. Harry Truman defeats Thomas E. Dewey in the 1948 US Presidential Election....and "Life-NBC TV" was there (including co-anchor John Cameron "It Takes A Licking And Keeps On Ticking" Swayze). This was the first Presidential election during the "TV era". The reporting methods were primitive and the camerawork was crude and rough at times, but this is American TV as it was more than 60 years ago, and it's great to see that some of the things from way back then managed to survive the six interim decades. Running Time: 7 minutes. COLOR To avoid any more stupid comments - a few points in advance: 1. The cartoon was made in 1948 and is directed by Chuck Jones. 2. In the 1920ies to 1950ies cartoons like this where shown in theatres either before the main movie or in between the two parts of a double feature. 3. Yes, there wasn´t much color-tv around in the fourties, but was has this fact to do with the cartoon? 4. I don´t think myself that this is a prediction of coming events (just check the question-mark in the title of the video), but just a funny coincidence. 5. They are two ideas where the line originated from. One is a bible quote (check the comments for more info) and another one (which seems more plausible) is that Jones was refering to the end of the radio era. The radio-towers (search for RKO) were pulled down all around the US back in the 40ies because these steel monsters weren´t needed anymore. 6. As mentioned above this was a theatrical cartoon and no episode from a tv-show, so comments about how fake it is and that is was produced much later are stupid ...

Mani Nasry an exceptionally talented filmmaker, actor and artist with a sophisticated breadth of education, skills, experience, and professional accomplishments. He trained as an actor and director in New York with Salem Ludwig and with Donna DeMatteo for playwriting. For Mani, the decision to work in the film industry guided his academic decisions from an early age. He attended a Toronto high school renowned for excellence in the arts, and was accepted into one of the highly competitive film program at Ryerson university. It is notable that he went to Ryerson with an already well-established career in theatre, film, television and commercial work, and a range of multi-faceted achievements including producing, cinematography, casting, writing, directing, acting, and editing. With courses perceptively, he has also recognized the importance of acquiring an understanding of the business side of the industry, and the varied aspects of technology and production. Superman Comes To Earth Superman (1948) is a 15-part black-and-white Columbia film serial based on the comic book character Superman. It stars an uncredited Kirk Alyn (billed only by his character name, Superman; but credited on the promotional posters) and Noel Neill as Lois Lane. It is notable as the first live-action appearance of Superman on film and for the longevity of its distribution. The serial was directed by Thomas Carr, who later directed many early episodes of the Superman television show, and Spencer Gordon Bennet, produced by Sam Katzman and shot in and around Los Angeles, California. It was originally screened at movie matinées and after the first three scene-setting chapters, every episode ends in a cliffhanger. The Superman-in-flight scenes are animations, in part due to the small production budget.
