Tsunami at Kamaishi port, Iwate Prefecture
The 311 Tsunami at Kamaishi port in Iwate Prefecture, Japan. Notes: This video is somehow unique, since it shows the actual comings and goings of the tsunami and not just the arrival of the biggest wave. It starts a couple of minutes after the earthquake, probably somewhere around 2:50 and 2:55 pm and then goes on for at least one and a half hour, plus some footage of the night and the next day. You can see how the water level falls in the minutes after the earthquake, the sign of an approaching tsunami. Then around 18:00 the tsunami begins to flood the port. The most impressive footage occurs during the two minutes after 24:00, then the tsunami overcomes the seawalls and smashes with incredible force into the city. The building from which this video was shot can be seen on a NHK video which was shown often on TV: www.youtube.com It's behind the road bridge, on the right side. The building with the pyramid shaped tower. The video was probably shot out of this tower. At the entrance of the bay, a large structure can be seen. That structure is the Kamaishi Breakwater. It was intended to save the town from tsunamis and took 30 years to build until being completed in 2009. In 2010 it got its own entry in the Guinness Book of World Records, for it was the deepest breakwater on the planet. At 18:00 the waves begin flowing over the breakwater and for the next ten minutes it disappears in foam. When it reappears at 34:00 it is torn apart - it took Mother Nature merely ten minutes ...

Tsunami at Cape Hirota, near Rikuzentakata, Iwate Prefecture
The 311 tsunami at Cape Hirota, near the city of Rikuzentakata in Iwate Prefecture, Japan. Notes: If you study the video carefully, you can see that the tsunami comes in several sweeps, but without much retreating between those sweeps. The initial wave comes at 01:40, a second and highest one arrives at 10:30. It's interesting to see that in this case, the tsunami doesn't resemble a wave, but more a incredibly fast and high rising tide. The highest water level can be observed at 12:30. Its hard to see, but if you compare the height of the central power pole in the harbor with what's actually sticking out of the water at that moment (only the tip of the pole), then the tsunami height must've been easily ten meters or more.

HD Documentary: Journeys in Japan - Kazuno, Akita Prefecture
On this edition of Journeys in Japan, we explore the Kazuno district of Akita Prefecture, in the far north of Japan, about 600 km. from Tokyo. This area has a beautiful natural environment with forests, rivers and waterfalls, and includes part of a national park. It also has a surprisingly rich history and culture. The reason for this the area had rich mineral resources, including deposits of gold and copper. At its peak, about 100 years ago, there were about 70 mines in the area. The mining companies supplied their employees with housing complete with electricity and running water, as well as hospitals, kindergartens and even a theater. All of the mines are closed down now. But many of the buildings and industrial sites have been preserved as a reminder of the area's mining heritage. The wealth of the mines is also reflected in the ornate floats that feature in the local festivals. The legacy of mining has not vanished entirely from the Kazuno district. One company is drawing on its technological knowhow to develop a state-of-the-art recycling industry. It is now recovering gold and other valuable metals from circuit boards and other electronics components. The site of the Osarizawa Mine is now a tourist facility showing how mining was done in the old days, as well as more modern industrial methods. Visitors can follow a 2 km. sightseeing course through the old mine, and can also try their hand at panning for alluvial gold. The Korakukan Theater was built by a mining ...

The 311 tsunami at the Sendai Airport area in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, as filmed from a news helicopter. Notes: It's incredible, for how long the wave keeps pushing forward. Moreover, it has so much momentum, that its front is still traveling farther inlands, while the coast regions are already nearly dry again!

Sekishu-Banshi: papermaking in the Iwami region of Shimane Prefecture
UNESCO: Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity - 2009 URL: www.unesco.org Description: The unique techniques of Sekishu-Banshi papermaking create the strongest paper produced in Japan. Sekishu-Banshi has long been made in the Iwami region of Shimane Prefecture in western Japan, originally as a side business for local farmers. Once popular among merchants for account books, it is used today primarily for ''shoji'' (paper doors), calligraphy and conservation and restoration work. The extraordinarily durable paper is handmade from the ''kozo'' tree (paper mulberry), and specifically from the long, tough fibres just under the bark that are considered to have too many impurities for other forms of paper. During the environmentally-friendly process, locally grown kozo is harvested in winter, the outer bark steamed off, the fibres boiled, beaten by hand, mixed with mucilage in water, and then filtered with a wooden-framed bamboo screen to form sheets; the resulting paper is dried on wooden or metal boards. The art today is the work of specialist papermakers in an artisans association, for whom Sekishu-Banshi is the foundation of their craft and one of the most important parts of their cultural heritage. They pass their traditional techniques to young successors through hands-on training, preserving a sense of continuity and identity. IN THIS VIDEO: Probably the most terrifying footage I've seen of the tsunami. The original upload is from wngad869, who shot the video in Oirase Town, Aomori Prefecture, which is 200 miles north of Sendai. He took an unbelievable risk in order to get this close up footage and it is amazing how he was able to find the safety of a small tower in the midst of all the rushing water. Massive Cover-Up Of Radiation Levels In Fukushima Prefecture - Alex Jones Tv 1/3
Kurt Nimmo www.prisonplanet.com Wednesday, March 16, 2011 A data map of radiation levels in Japan posted on the TargetMap website has omitted information from the Fukushima Prefecture where nuclear reactors are currently melting down. The map reports a "survey" of the area is currently "underway," in other words the Japanese government is not reporting the obvious fact the area is contaminated with deadly radiation and it does not want the Japanese people or anybody else to know the full story. A coordinated coverup of the severity of the situation is underway. This sort of behavior is typical of governments, especially when they are interested in protecting their power base and protecting the interests of transnational corporations. Normally stoic Japanese citizens are outraged over the lack of information forthcoming from the government. "Residents who have been evacuated after a radiation leak from a quake-hit nuclear power plant have expressed their anger with the lack of information about the incident and how to respond to it," The Mainichi Daily News reports. In the United States, countless numbers have flocked to stores in pursuit of iodine tablets, said to help prevent thyroid cancer. Americans are obviously not buying the line promulgated by federal and state government that radiation does not pose a threat. Katrina and other incidents have instructed the people in the uselessness of government and its desire to protect them. Increasingly, people understand they ...

Japan - effects disaster by nature - 20110311 - tsunami - Kuji, Iwate Prefecture
Please, read this first before leaving a comment. This upload is part of the play list "JAPAN - 2011 - Tsunami". It is one of several play lists about our monitoring on the aftermath of the triple disaster in Japan. The first two of the chain are caused by nature while the third are seen as followed: The nuclear disaster at the Fukushima Daichii Nuclear Plant may look as caused by nature but it is actually the result of serious negligence by all involved in choosing nuclear power as energy while ignoring the risks; in choosing the location while knowing it's upon a fault line. The third play list "JAPAN - 2011 - Fukushima Daichii Nuclear Plant" is not available yet but will be expected in March 2012 after completed the search for useful footages. Real Life Initial D - DRIFTING scene in Gunma Japan
I currently live and work in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. Gunma is the setting of the world famous anime Initial D which is about the motorsport drifting and touge racing. Growing up, I was a big fan of anime and tuner culture and so it had always been a dream of mine to experience the subculture of Drifting first hand. This past month, I had the amazing opportunity to check out the real live drifting scene in Gunma. Myself and a couple friends went to Akagi Mountain which is the real life counterpart of several of the tracks in the Initial D anime, manga and games. There we discovered that the drifting scene is alive and well. It was literally. real. live. initial D. One of the people I met that night is famous for being the best driver in Gunma. He is a really cool and soft spoken Japanese guy who is a monster behind the wheel of his insane S15 Nissan Silvia. He took me on a couple runs up and down the touge (mountain pass) and I had no idea it was even possible to drive a car that fast on the mountain, much less going sideways into and out of a corner. It was awesome.I can`t wait to go again and hopefully I`ll be able to get some more and better video. Hope you guys enjoy watching!
