A Tribute to Jerry Nelson (1934 - 2012)
This morning I got a rather devastating email from Muppet Central, informing me about the passing of long-time Muppet veteran Jerry Nelson, the man who brought us Herry Monster, Count von Count, Floyd Pepper, Robin the Frog, the original Snuffy, and many other Muppets (and announcer voices for Sesame Street and the other Muppet productions as well). So I spent a good chunk of the morning preparing this tribute, and I wanted it to be something more special, compared to when I simply did still image tributes for Art Clokey (in 2010) and Bill Melendez (in 2008.) The song is AA Milne's "Halfway Down the Stairs," as performed by Jerry's Robin the Frog. Enjoy! (I do not own the clips use here; the rights go to Disney, the Muppets Holding Company, the Jim Henson Company and CTW/SesameWorkshop. FAIR USE!)

Jerry Nelson Music-The Man
For Jerry, music came as naturally as walking. He started piano lessons at age seven; by age ten, and still barely able to reach the pedals, Jerry was designated pianist in a tiny Minnesota church. Directing its orchestra (of three players), it was a quantum leap, a few years later, to recording with the London Orchestra. Though composer of several dozen songs and musicals, he considers himself more of an "Arranger" with some 6000 arrangements spanning a fulfilling career.

Jerry Nelson and Louise Gold - When The River Meets The Sea.wmv
In loving memory of Jerry Nelson (1934-2012) ♥ UPDATE 17/12/11: Just found out that Russell Hoban has died. For those who don't know, he wrote the original Emmet Otter book in the 70's. (Strangely enough, I thought that he was already dead.) Rest in peace. today.msnbc.msn.com This is an audio-only recording of When The River Meets The Sea from Jim Henson's memorial, as sung by Muppeteers Jerry Nelson and Louise Gold. It was originally recorded by Nelson and Marilyn Sokol for the Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas special in 1977. As of January 2, 2012, the actual video of this performance is no longer available on YouTube, as elvisf422, the original uploader of the videos from Jim's memorial, took down all of those videos for no apparent reason, save for the Harry Belafonte performance, however s/he reuploaded the Muppeteers' medley in April 2011, a few months after I uploaded a slideshow featuring the original audio from the same medley that January, which was in turn was reuploaded, along with this video, by me last October, weeks after a certain Cartoon Network show (where Jerry voiced a character!) got the original Fragglevision account suspended: www.youtube.com

Sesame Street - The Return of Sherlock Hemlock!
Yes, after a ten-year absence from the street, the world's (not so) greatest Muppet detective is back! He's the lead singer in "X Marks the Spot," the star of "Mysterious Theater" and the smartest Cave-Person in the World... yes, he's Sherlock Hemlock, finally back for a new cameo appearance! Also features a cameo by Herry Monster, who was also long overdue for a comeback appearance, as well as a cameo by Jerry Nelson himself! Taken from Episode 4206, "Wing in a Sling." Tides: A Tribute to Jerry Nelson
We all recently lost an absolute icon in the world, Jerry Nelson. Many of us grew up with him and his characters on Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, and Fraggle Rock among others. I wanted to put together a tribute video to the man behind the Muppets who inspired and entertained many of us with his talent. The song is called Tides from Jerry Nelson's self released album "Truro Daydreams" All images are property of The Jim Henson Company, The Walt Disney Company/ The Muppets Studio, and Sesame Workshop.

My tribute to Jerry Nelson (1934-2012)
First off, I'd like to state that I do not own any of the clips that were used. But this was just my way to pay tribute and to say thanks to the man who taught me how to count. Jerry Nelson's legacy is something to mourn and laugh about, which is what I wanted to do for this video. It starts off with a clip from one of the lost Jim Henson Hour episodes where the muppeteers get exposed and Jerry Nelson is introduced. Then, we hear Robin singing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" featuring clips of his ever popular characters. Not to mention cameo apperances and behind the scenes footages. After the mournful part of the video, JN gets carried away by Sweetums! Followed by some adlibs from an "Emmett Otter" outtake. You will never be forgotten, Mr. Nelson. But you're in a better place now.

Jerry Nelson talks about giant telescope design
The segmented-mirror telescope pioneer talks about the challenges and innovations of designing the Keck and Thirty Meter Telescope mirrors. SPIE Fellow Jerry Nelson is professor of astronomy and astrophysics at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and Astronomer for the UC Observatories/Lick Observatory. He received his PhD in physics from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1972. He is Chief Scientist for the Thirty Meter Telescope project, and previously served as Project Scientist for what is now the Keck Observatory. He was responsible for many parts of its development, including the ideas and implementation of segmented optics, fabrication, and control systems. He was also Founding Director of the Center for Adaptive Optics at UC Santa Cruz (1999-2004). Nelson's innovation in mirror design was to piece together a large mirror from a number of smaller tiles which would be much lighter. He devised a way to grind the tiles into the unusual asymmetric shapes needed and a system of sensors, actuators and computer control to make the tiles act as a single reflecting surface. Nelson was named a winner of the Kavli Prize in Astrophysics -- along with Ray Wilson, formerly of Imperial College London and the European Southern Observatory, and Roger Angel, of the University of Arizona -- for innovations in the field of telescope design. They received the prize at a ceremony in Oslo, Norway, in September 2010. He was interviewed in June 2010 at the SPIE Astronomical ...

Jerry Nelson Tribute
The Jim Henson/Muppet world has sadly lost yet another puppeteer. Jerry Nelson past away on August 23, 2012. He was known for such characters as the Count on Sesame Street, Robin the Frog (Kermit's nephew), Fat Blue, Gobo (Fraggle Rock), and many, many, more. Say hi to Jim Henson and Richard Hunt for us Jerry and we'll see you someday at "The Rainbow Connection." Songs used- "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" & "Halfway Down the Stairs" This video is purely fan made. No copyright infringement intended.
