Kelly Hambleton Advanced morphological classification of galaxies using the CAS system School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences Project Leader: Brad Gibson At a recent academic poster presentation, Kelly Hambleton of the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences talks about her projectundertaken as part of UCLan's 2010 Undergraduate Research Internship Scheme. Co-ordinated by UCLan's Centre for Research-informed Teaching, students were drawn from subjects across the arts, sciences, health and business to work on a huge variety of projects for a period of up to ten weeks. The undergraduate research initiative, funded by HEFCE, is playing a leading role in the work of UCLan's Centre for Research-Informed Teaching. Leading the Centre, which is more generally examining the UCLan interface between research and teaching across all disciplines, is Professor Stuart Hampton-Reeves. He said the initiative was proving as popular as ever among students and staff alike. "Once again undergraduate students from courses across the University have grasped the opportunities to gain their first taste of academic research," he explained. "Our academic staff have played a crucial role by supporting the scheme with potential projects and nurturing our students with their research ambitions. "Several interns have produced research conclusions that have led directly to the inclusion of papers in leading, peer-reviewed journals. For me, that is the ultimate seal of ...

Redrow New Homes in Hambleton - Mulberry Grange
The Mulberry Grange development offers 4 bedroom homes and is perfectly situated in Hambleton, Yorkshire. The Yorkshire countryside is stunningly beautiful. From lush, rolling fields to brooding moors, it's the perfect setting for historic towns like Selby; famed for its market and pretty, bustling centre, plus the grand abbey that presides over it. It features one of Yorkshire's oldest golf clubs has great fishing and it's also perfectly placed for nearby Hambledon; a tranquil village full of rustic charm and home to Redrow's Mulberry Grange development. Mulberry Grange fits into this location seamlessly. The development features houses from Redrow's New Heritage Collection, inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement which put quality, attention to detail, and craftsmanship, at the centre of everything. Here's a typical style of house you'll see, for example -- a family-friendly layout with the kitchen as the hub of the home; large, light bedrooms with an ensuite to the master bedroom and plenty of potential for storage throughout. Another example is a four-bedroom home like this. It's perfect for a growing family there's the spacious lounge with a stylish fireplace as a focal point and again, the inviting kitchen diner with superb fixtures and fittings. The bedrooms are big, bright havens of calm, and it would be easy to double one up as both a guest room and a study. Tile patterns, brickwork, or other carefully chosen details make each of these homes unique but one thing ...

AMA President Dr Steve Hambleton discusses this season's influenza strain. He says influenza can affect anyone at any age, and every now and then it will affect someone who is perfectly well. Dr Hambleton says the influx of influenza patients to hospitals this year has had an enormous impact and 90 cases of influenza have ended up in intensive care in Queensland. He says people should try to stop the spread of the virus by practising cough etiquette, washing hands and disinfecting surfaces.

We wanted to push video mapping on from anything that has been done so far. Using live puppetry, 3D tracking, pyrotechnics (and a whole bunch of our friends' spare time) we transformed a room into three different vignettes. Can you guess the films?!
It was all lots of fun! A very big thank you to all our friends and Studio-Output for their support and putting their trust into our maverick efforts.

Richard Hambleton on his art
Interviewed by Joan Moossy & Paul DeRienzo, Richard Hambleton is the only surviving member of that special historic coterie of the 80's including his close friends Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Andy Warhol. Hambleton is a conceptual artist and develops projects that are really only completed once people react to them. Hambleton has exhibited throughout Europe and has a cult-like following in Italy and Japan. He has done a variety of public art going back to the early '70's. From 1976-1979, he painted 620 murder victims with outlines around bodies in staged scenes often in areas of major cities around the globe designated as "low crime". Headlines quickly proclaimed the effective realism of these tableaux and their effects on increasing urban paranoia. In 1982, Hambleton painted standing, threatening strange Shadow Man© figures with black paint on the landscape of the darkest corners of city streets. Eventually he transferred these images onto paper and canvas always stirring deep public emotion.
