George Jones: He Stopped Loving Her Today (Braddock / Putnam, 1980) - Lyrics
"He Stopped Loving Her Today" is a song by country music artist George Jones that has been identified in several surveys as the greatest country song of all time. Notably, Jones' rendition of the song was accepted in 2008 by the National Recording Preservation Board, set up by the US Congress (Public Law 106-474; HR4846) "to maintain and preserve sound recordings and collections of sound recordings that are culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." Please see the site listing here: www.loc.gov Claude "Curly" Putman Jr. (born November 20, 1930 in Princeton, Jackson County, Alabama) is an American songwriter, based in Nashville. His biggest success was "Green, Green Grass of Home" (1964). Robert Valentine (Bobby) Braddock (born August 5, 1940) is an American country music songwriter and record producer. A member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, Braddock has contributed numerous hit songs during more than 40 years in the industry, including 13 number-one hit singles. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- He said I'll love you 'til I die She told him you'll forget in time As the years went slowly by She still preyed upon his mind He kept her picture on his wall Went half crazy now and then He still loved her through it all Hoping she'd come back again Kept some letters by his bed Dated 1962 He had underlined in red Every single I love you I went to see him just today Oh but I didn't see no tears All dressed up to go ...

Marty Robbins Matilda
Bobby Braddock wrote this great ballad for Marty while he was his pianist in the mid 1960's. It's a wonderful song that encapsulates so well the trials and tribulations of a couple Will and Matilda on a wagon train journey in the 19th century American west. Bobby Braddock co-wrote with Curl Putnam what is acknowledged by many to be the greatest country song of all time, namely 'He Stopped Loving Her Today.' I think this song is a truly great song as well, with Marty at his very best doing full justice to it. Amazingly missed by Bear Family somehow and not included in the 'Under Western Skies' box set. It should have been; it is a truly great western song
